We chose Fay Canyon Trail today and loved it. If you are an adventure seeker (rock climber, mountain biker, have a passion for trails marked ‘strenuous’, etc.,) this is NOT the trail for you. However, for many, perhaps most of us on vacation, this was a winner. There is a nice marked parking lot and the trailhead is just across the road. The trail is basically flat and without incline and well-shaded by trees for a summer time hike. There are some rocks and tree roots so you have to watch where you are walking but take the time to stop regularly and look up at the stunning red rocks that tower above the canyon on both sides. Because of the trees, there were many birds singing and even some beautiful butterflies. At the end of the ‘maintained trail’, you can proceed up the canyon but at that point you are hiking and climbing rather than an easy walk through the canyon. The maintained trail is only about 2 miles total roundtrip so with the shade, this is one that can be done even if you didn’t get to the trail early during summertime. It was not crowded while we were there so we were able to sit and contemplate and enjoy the quiet and beauty of this canyon.
