We missed taking the really awesome trail, but now you won't. About a quarter mile into the trail is a pile of rocks on the right. they alert you if you know to look for it that there is a side trail going up the mountain. Take it. I went up the trail for a short while but some of our group stayed back and kept shouting beware of scorpions. (i dont know if this is a real concern- i didnt see any creatures) I didnt climb far. the sandy path is much narrower than the main trail and goes way up and twists and turns. Trail is well groomed. This an easy gorgeous hike that feels very private and special. The view opens up and You can see the entire canyon at once.

This is a great trail. Very moderate. But.....there is a side trail to the arch. Be warned, this is NOT a moderate trail. And harder going down than up.

A nice quiet trail not a lot of people use – a shame really as much of it is surrounded by trees.
A round trip is 3 miles. About halfway in there is a side path to a really nice stone arch that’s visible from the trail. The trail ends at a box canyon with high cliff walls, with a total elevation change of 500ft, not bad for the fit and experiences but few make it that far.
A good hike for the beginner, families, or the elderly.

Easier hike if you go straight to the end by the rock slide. The hike up the the arch is more challenging. If you are able bodied you have to hike to the arch. Pretty neat up there. We really enjoyed this one.

Fay Canyon Trail is a short but unique hike. The trail is flat and only a mile one way but what makes it unique is that you more immersed in trees compared to some of the other hikes in that area. Few people will climb to the end of the Canyon but it is well worth the climb and extra effort to get there. If you make it you are surrounded by canyon walls. I would recommend this trail for families with young kids or people who do not want a technical hike.
