“Airport Mesa Vortex and Hike”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Drive up Airport Road (off 89A) and you'll come to a small parking area on the left. Park, get a Forest Service permit from the ticket machine and you're ready to enjoy the most accessible of the Sedona Vortexes. Follow the trail or scramble up the side of the small rocky hill and you'll be able to enjoy a great view and possibly feel some vortex vibes.
If the hill is too steep for you, go the very short distance to the saddle. Some people claim the vortex is here. I think the view is almost as good as from the top of the hill.
If you're a bit of a hiker, Airport Loop Trail is well worth doing. It gives you an overview of the different parts of Sedona and allows you to experience small airplanes taking off or landing just a few feet away from you. Total length of the loop is 3.3 miles with only a few hundred feet of climbing. Take water and have good sturdy shoes. Sedona trails are rocky.

“A view of West Sedona as not seen on land!”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Ample parking and the ability to look over the mesa and into West Sedona - what a terrific experience! There even are binoculars available to get a closer look at nature in the distance

“The most scenic airport in the country.”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

Having worked at the Sedona airport atop a mile-long mesa, I can vouch for the beauty of the scenery. Also I took flying lessons at 72 and loved flying from the Sedona airport. The overlook on Airport mesa is second to none, and a very popular vista for watching spectacular sunsets. There is also a vortex just off the airport road, also very popular. It has been said(an urban legend I am sure) that the vortex is of the female gender. Male visitors are cautioned to keep a hand on their wallets. :-)
A nice restaurant graces the mesa as does several aviation tour companies. Open cockpit biplane flights, helicopter tours, aerial Grand Canyon tours. The choice is yours.

“Two vortices located on Airport Road”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

To the left as one ascends Airport Road are two vortices. Park at the lot and walk up to the "saddle" between two hills and stand near the twisted Juniper tree. At the top of the saddle are spectacular views of Bell Rock and Oak Creek valley. Here you may experience a peaceful, pleasant sensation which is characteristic of the inflow vortex. Turn to the left and climb up the hill where the views are also magnificent, and here you may feel the more exciting energy of the upflow vortex. If you look back toward the parking lot, you will have a fabulous overview of west Sedona with Thunder Mountain and other formations in the background. Even if you do not "feel anything", the views are just great. Some people report that they just "feel good" here, which is all part of the Sedona magic.
