We were recommended the Mesa Grill at the airport while we were staying in Sedona, so drove up for dinner not knowing what to expect - I pictured a little hamburger joint. The reality was far from it!! This is an upscale restaurant, with prices to match, with impeccable service and beautifully plated and delicious cuisine. We enjoyed ourselves immensely in the comfortable ambiance (even in a crowded dining room) with floor to ceiling windows allowing us to watch small planes coming in and taking off, and our 6yo granddaughter was excited to see a coyote wandering around the runways, sniffing and hunting for small game.

Perfect spot take in spectacular Sedona. Situated on a mesa above the town so it seems that you're in the middle of nowhere. 80 mile vistas, bi-plane, helicopter, private jet, and occasional vintage plane traffic. Speechless sunset colors.

Establishment review : solid. Grabbed a weekday happy hour drink with a very friendly bartender and took in the view. We had dinner plans elsewhere but decided to stay. Moved to a table where my fiance and I were taken care of by an accommodating server. Had the lobster tail and my date had the filet mignon ( cooked a perfect red medium rare). Neat to see the owner / host / manager take such an active role. He checked with us twice about our experience. He was very warm and inviting.

Not to sound like I'm on the payroll but just wanted to really express our appreciation for the time spent there. We're new to this sight and are writing this on the way to Zion National Park. Any travelers to Sedona need to stop at the Mesa Grill and take it all in. We won't forget our time there.

In March my wife and I ate at the Mesa Grill. It provides a great view of the airport runway as well as vistas of the surrounding Red Rocks. My wife had the special tuna of the day which was cooked to perfection and I enjoyed their hamburger which was as equally tasted. The staff was attentive and friendly. The restaurant is bright and airy and does have a patio.

The food was not cooked to order, had to return 2 steaks, twice, and still raw. Third steak had long splintered piece of wood in it. Owner went completely beserk when we asked to have those meals removed from bill, yelling at us, insulting us, calling us names, going table to table telling other guests that WE were crazy! Followed us out and attempted to physically put his hand on a female guest in our party. We should have called the police, but Marc Battistini - Owner was violent and we were afraid for our safety, so we just left.

What can we say? As a family who has visited 29 states and eaten at many restaurants and grills across the United States, this is absolutely one of the worst restaurants we have ever visited. Not just for the poorly cooked food, but for the arrogant and outlandishly rude staff that stand behind it.

The owner, Marc Battistini, greeted us by asking if we wanted a children's menu, when all four of us were clearly adults. Our waiter seated us at a table at the far side of the grill, and we ordered three filet mignon steaks, two cooked medium-well and one medium, and a plate of lobster. We requested another basket of bread some time later, only to be neglected for at least twenty minutes before our waiter returned, told us he "forgot," and took yet another ten minutes to arrive with the basket. We waited an additional forty minutes for our food to arrive as well. The grill was only half full and not particularly busy during our visit.

When the food arrived, all of our steaks were undercooked, the medium steak a blatant blood-red and the rest borderline rare. One of us found a wooden stick embedded in the center of her steak, which splintered into the meat when she sliced into it. We got Marc to come over and showed him the sharp wood sticking out of the cut. He apologized and took the stick away, offering us a dessert on the house. However, when the other two steaks were sent back to be recooked, and they brought them back a second time, still rare as they were before, we decided at that point not to stay for dessert. We asked our waiter to remove the three barley eaten meals from the bill.

Our waiter chuckled at us at this request and sent the owner back to our table. Marc returned and stood there staring at us, not saying a word and making us feel uncomfortable. The person who had the wood in her steak looked at Marc, who was still glaring, and said, "Yes?" She then explained to him that we did not want to pay for the three meals that were inedible. The more she explained to him, the more he wordlessly stared. Marc then said to her, "Life is too short to get so upset over a steak." A steak? Three! undercooked steaks and one with a stick inside of it, a clear life hazard which both our waiter and Marc seemed to ignore.

He begrudgingly said that he would take them off the bill, and as he walked away we discussed the decrepit service and quality of our food. Immediately, Marc rushed to our table and began yelling at the person in our party with the 'wooden' steak. She told him to stop, as he was clearly offending not only her, but our entire group. She repeated his ridiculous comment to him, "Life is too short..." Marc then yelled, "The meal is on the house! Do not come back here again!" As we got up to leave, Marc followed her and tried to put his hand on her shoulder. Defending herself, she retorted "Do not touch me!", at which point Marc approached the rest of us, exclaiming "I feel so sorry for all of you. You are very unlucky people. You are very unfortunate people."

He went around to each table, telling patrons that the woman was "insane" and laughing the incident off, the rest of the staff laughing it off with him. The other customers smiled at him. All of us, though, bore stern, concerned faces questioning the state of the restaurant and its abrasive, unstable proprietor.

We have never been treated so poorly by any restaurant owner before in our lives. If you decide to try Mesa Grill out, which we vehemently advise against, do not complain about your food. Marc Battistini will badger you, harass you, embarrass you, and threaten to call the police.
