“Why chinz out on wifi at an otherwise top-notch resort”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2013

In this day and age, I think most travelers expect to have mobile Internet capabilities. I recently traveled to Sedona for a week and brought my computer so I could do emergency assignments, check area attractions, etc. I was very surprised, stunned actually, that this resort does not offer wifi. They do have some arrangement with ATT through which you can pay $30 for a week's connectivity. Or you can go and wait with guests from 400 other units to use the two guest computers. Perhaps they're getting a commission on the wifi sales? Diamond Resorts welcomed feedback, and I wrote to the email address asking why they would make such a short-sighted business decision; I never received a reply. Perhaps it's because they have such a large timeshare sales operation going on, and they don't want people seeing aftermarket pricing? I just don't understand it.

Our unit was comfortable, especially the beds. The mattress was heavenly and the linens were rich. The large soaking tub/jacuzzi, had stains coming out of the jets, so it was somewhat unappealing to me. Kitchen we very well appointed. There is a really nice infinity hot tub on the northern end of the property. Very gorgeous views from grounds ... not so much from the units.

Could have done without the music playing at the hot tubs and pools. Be well-advised that this property is not a walk to anything location. However, it is a short car drive to some nice restaurants, grocery store, etc.

Oh, I also heard one of the funniest things during check in at this property. "If you take our property tour, we will give you a three-day, two-night stay at one of our other properties plus a VISA gift card with $75 on it." "We are not interested in going to one of your properties." "If you do not want the vacation, we will give you $25 and the VISA gift card." So it left us wondering what happens when you accept the 3-day vacation that has a cash value of $25.

Room Tip: We had a king suite with a full kitchen. It was really nice.

We had a large suite with a fully equiped kitchen and granite brekfast bar. This was a 1st floor unit with patio and a view of the Red Rocks. In the am we actually saw people hot air ballooning over the rocks. We had a very comfortable King size bed with a large soaking tub and full living room area with a large screen TV, gas fireplace and washer & dryer. Bring food if you want to cook in. We only had cheese and crackers, wine and fruit. Eggs would have been wonderful. This place is in close proximity to the Barking Frog and the little store front BYOB Thai Spice and many other choices. Great place to regroup after a few weeks on the road. I'm sure our unit was better than some when I booked it I did ask for a view of the mountains. Beware this is a time share and they will try to sell you.

Our accommodations were average to that of a basic hotel with the benefits of a half-kitchen. I was surprised there was not wi-fi access available on site and there were too few computers in the business center. Our room was scheduled for cleaning and when we arrived back to the room late at night, we discovered many indicators our room/bathroom was not cleaned. Which, made us wonder if it was cleaned to begin with? The towels they replaced in our room looked dirty. The staff park along the main drive, which makes the resort look unkept, extra busy, and low-class, especially when they hang out at their vehicles mid-day. While friendly, the staff didn't make you feel like 'their guest'. The concierge wasn't very helpful when we asked about other things to do in Sedona -- there was no way we "did it all" in 4 days. We sat through a 2-hour timeshare presentation and while it wasn't for us -- we would have had a different perspective on Diamond Resorts if we attended the presentation at the end of our stay vs the beginning. It's a good place to lay your head, get some rest, lay by a pool -- but if you're looking for more than that, this isn't the place for you.

This is the third time I have stayed at the Sedona Summit and I truly love it. I have stayed in both a studio and 1 bedroom and much prefer the 1 bedroom with the convenience of a full kitchen, washer/dryer, and jetted tub. The staff were wonderful. I know this is a timeshare and, like everyone else, do not like pressure sales people. I am a Diamond International owner so I succumbed to the sales pitch at one point, but you do not have to allow that to impact the wonderful experience that Sedona Summit offers. The location in West Sedona is my personal preference, along with the trails into the red rocks just behind the resort. I have stayed at other resorts in Sedona but I will go back to the Summit every chance i get. If you decide to workout indoors, they do have a small, but effective fitness center. Lots of pools near every group of units.

Room Tip: I chose the mesa 1 bedroom but was upgraded to sunset. Both have wonderful views of sunrise or sunse...

The accommodations (one-bedroom, upstairs, renovated room) were very nice, although we had no view (at all). The hide-a-bed is the most comfortable we have ever seen.

They need more computers in the business center for a resort of this size. Don't expect to get on one in the morning or evening.

There were two major problems with our stay.

1. The night they arrived, they told us they were overbooked and we would have to spend the first night at another property and then move all our stuff the next day. We had been driving 8 hours with two small kids. We had a rooftop carrier (complete with provisions for 2 weeks) that would need to be unpacked, packed, and unpacked again for our 4-day stay. I explained that we had a reservation and this was unacceptable. After wrangling over it for awhile, they relented and let us stay there the whole time. Wow. That should not be something a guest must argue for. What a mess!

2. We had two consecutive reservations (three days for a special deal plus one additional day at the regular rate). However, after the first reservation was complete, they locked us out of our room. We had to drive back to the lobby to have the problem fixed. Further, we did not receive the customary maid service after the first three days. Someone really dropped the ball, not ensuring that our stay would proceed smoothly through the full four days.

Arrived during renovations which I hadnt been warned about .The colleagues were not great just barely did what they had to ,and gave us keys that didnt work TWICE .Anyway its a sprawling complex no food or drink facility on the site so be prepared and take something with you .The apartments /studios are very well equipped,Clean well maintained and comfortable .Good quality bedding .Nearest restaurant and shops are a drive away .The resort is about 10 mins drive from Sedona main town and worth a stay if you are staying in the area for more than a day .A good starter trail at the back of the resort ,and surrounded by beautiful mountains ,The colleagues the following day were much more helpful .

This hotel is quite a way out of town which is fine if you don't want to be in the hustle. The photos are not totally accurate you won't see any views of those beautiful red rocks from your room, but they are nearby. It was quite expensive,\ and they charged for wifi. I'm sure there is better value in Sedona.

Room Tip: Ask for a high room with a view, otherwise you will get one of the many beside the car park.
