Description: Despite the name, Cafe Jose serves good old-fashioned home style cooking. It is a classic American diner which also happens to serve good Mexican food. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served all day. Cafe Jose is a favorite spot for local residents. It has won the local award for the past several years for "Best Home Cooking," "Best Breakfast," "Best Family Dining." "Friendliest Wait Staff," and "Best Overall Bargain." The food is not fancy, but it is tasty and served with a smile. The portions are large, but meals are priced to fit anyone's budget.

“Wish we'd eaten here more often!”
Reviewed July 27, 2010

We discovered Cafe Jose the day before we left after an 8 day stay. We ate at many expensive restaurants with "elegant" settings and servers, but nothing was as satisfying as sitting in a booth at Jose's, eating chicken fried steak, homemade white pepper gravy and homemade mashed potatoes with homemade corn bread and green beans. Nothing was greasy or salty, the service was with a smile and it was usually pretty full of people who knew the place. We came back for breakfast before we left Sedona and when we return, we'll be eating 75% of our meals there. Good food, breakfast all day, and a smiling waitress with fast service.

“A Local Favorite”
Reviewed May 20, 2010

We found this via www.restaurant.com and had a $10 certificate to use there. The food was always ample and good service, too. I had pork chops the first night, meatloaf the second visit and prime rib the 3rd. The food was good with great homemad mashed potatoes. They had such a wide range of choices from mexican, to pastas, to down home favorites. I enjoyed it even though its just a cafe. The servers were different each time, which varied from very friendly and fun, and strictly business. Most dinners were under $10. Ithink the meatloaf w/ mashed potatos and green beans was about $8 and the chops was abut $10. Great value here.

“Great food, good place for budget-minded”
Reviewed March 27, 2010

What it lacks in atmosphere is made up by its food. My wife and I go to this restaurant every Sunday morning with a church group. The kitchen will fix anything you want as long as they have the ingredients. It has Mexican and American food, and both are very good.

I enjoy Cafe Jose, because of the comfort food, portion size, friendly staff and prices. It's a great place for locals to eat inexpensively. The Mexican food on the menu is below par but everything else I've tried has been quite good breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you want turkey and stuffing it is Sunday's special. The meatloaf has green chili in it which is different and good. It isn't a healthy choice however because there is lots of gravy and deep fried foods. The all you can eat Friday fish fry is great. A great down home kind of restaurant.

“Ole for Cafe Jose”
Reviewed September 22, 2007

Let me say, I've been to the Enchantment and the Cowboy Club and some of the finer establishments in this town (there are many). If you are just visiting and money is no object then you need to do it. There are about a dozen places where us poorer people go and Cafe Jose is one of them. They are located in a shopping center (next to the only McDonalds in town). The first thing you will usually observe is they greet you like old friends even if they don't know you. The service is generally very attentive. If you have the Ranch Breakfast ($7) the pancakes will look like some of the ones you cook at home. They are certainly one of the cheapest Mexican restaurants in town and their food is prepared just like you prepare yours at home (unless you have a chef) and it's reasonably priced. They serve more than Mexican food here. It's not even as fancy as a Denny's-but there is no Denny's in Sedona! I agree that it could look a little more modern but I believe it's clean-if it weren't the locals would close it down!
