Renting a jeep and going off on our own was one of the highlights of our visit. The people at Barlow’s made the experience easy. They have two-door and four-door jeeps for rent. The vehicles are in great condition and come with a number of unexpected extras, e.g., satellite radio , ac , power windows and mirrors. These are really well-equipped vehicles. They also include a cooler with ice so you can pack a picnic if you want.
When we picked up our jeep we were given maps and detailed explanations of the various trails we could take. These are not “off-road” experiences. The trails are maintained gravel roadways of varying difficulty. We decided to start on the easier trails first to get comfortable with driving our jeep. We did Soldier Pass and Schnebly Hill Road. Both were a lot of fun. However, we found Schnebly Hill just a very rough ride, even though it’s flat most of the way. On our second outing we went on the more adventuresome trails and had a ball. We did Outlaw Trail and Diamondback Gulch. It was great getting back into the mountains and seeing those majestic peaks up close.
We took two different models on our trips, the Rubicon and the Sport. If you want a “more controlled” ride I suggest the Rubicon. You can disengage the sway bars on this model and it gives a more controlled ride in my experience. That’s not to say we didn’t enjoy the Sport. It was just different.
We always felt safe in our jeep. It handled the trails very well. We also felt well-prepared by the staff at Barlow’s. All in all it’s an experience I would highly recommend.

I'd highly recommend this adventure to everyone. You will have lots of fun. Beautiful sights and great jeeps. Try the Soldiers Pass and Broken Arrow trail. 4 hours was perfect for doing these and enjoying a nice lunch in the desert surrounding by awesome mtns.

I read a lot of reviews before I picked Barlow over the pink jeep tours which seems to be the staple out here. Before I get too far, let me say if you don't like to drive on dirt roads or aren't too adventurous then pink jeep tours is the way to go. I seen probably 10 of them pink jeeps and most of the guides were very nice. That said, to off road with the family in a barlows rubicon jeep was a rush. We got to see twice as much for half the price, plus had our own privacy, time schedule and freedom. Broken arrow trail was a lot of fun .thanks Barlows

This is an awesome experience. You get to drive freely. If you are afraid of drivng on hills in the middle of no where, do a tour, but this was a lot of fun. An ice cooler is given to you for free, and you can rent the jeep for as long as you want. If you go, do a half day or full day tour. Don't do two hours! you won' get enough done. Each jeep has a name, and you have to be careful, these people are trusting you. The pink Jeep Tour people get in the way, so try to avoid them. It is an adventurous, exciting experience you should try.

We were in Sedona for a week and after reading about all the different things to do we decided to rent a jeep from Barlow for the week. We are so glad that we did. At the beginning of the week the weather was not the greatest and the trails were closed down for a few days so we went back to Barlow's and got some more air pressure put in the tires and toured Jerome, Flagstaff and went into Phoenix for dinner and a hockey game. The weather cleared up, the trails reopened and took some air out of the tires and OMG what a hoot. This is the only way to go in order to get the best of both worlds. Everyone at the office is amazing and really helpful. The jeeps are all pretty much new, we had a 2013 Jeep with less than 4000 miles on it. Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation.
