This is a must see hike on any trip to Sedona. Must have good quality shoes with good grip as there are some steepish scrambles. It will take about an hour up and half that coming down. Be sure to take the trail to the left when you think your reached the top to see the 'saddle'.

Beautiful view from the dirt road to the west of the rock. The walk is well worth it. Go to the river and look toward the rock.

Know that this is a strenuous hike. You will reach a point in the climb where it becomes 'scramble time'. You will begin to ascend a crevice in the rock and that is where half the people the people climbing will stop and head back. If you continue on, you will be greatly rewarded! Climb and see for yourself... You won't be disappointed ;)

Most of the trail up to the saddle of Cathedral Rock (the flat place between two of the largest verticals) is easy. A short portion requires wedging your feet in a crevice and possibly holding onto the higher rock sides with your hands--maybe about 20 feet of this. I've seen dogs and elderly people do it, so take it slowly and focus if you are afraid of heights like I am. Occasionally parts of the trail require a step up of about two feet, but there's usually a tree to hold onto or someone to help you. (Don't go alone unless you are a super experienced, and careful, hiker).

The top, the saddle, is an alleged vortex sight with magnetic energy that it is claimed magnifies your intention or prayers from that point. In my opinion, that is up to you. I enjoy being at the top alone in order to experience that deeper connection. Even in a group, it is a place people whisper because of its breathtaking beauty and the sense of wonder that inspires.

The trail is well-marked. Parking at the trailhead is limited in order to keep foot traffic to a manageable level. Cathedral Rock can also be accessed from Red Rock Crossing, where the trail is mostly dirt rather than slick rock. Hide your valuables and lock your car. Because this outing can take a couple hours or more, occasional amoral opportunists hit the trailheads.

No fee for the rock, but there is a Forest Service parking fee (Red Rock Pass) good for many such trailheads.
