Trails are well marked and not too difficult. When I went with my friends there was a stand at the trail entrance to buy hats and t-shirts if you needed them. Be sure to bring sunblock and lots of water!

We stopped here on the way to Sedona and visited again during the week. I hoped to feel some kind of vibe but the vortexes ended up affecting me in other ways. One night while hiking alone at sunset (something you should never do!), a tarantula crossed the path about 2 feet in front of me which was pretty cool. I recommend getting a Red Rock pass. It is cheaper and will cover the fees for this and some other sites as well.

This amazing attraction should ring a bell for anyone who has driven east from Sedona to Oak Creek Village on scenic Arizona Highway 179. It looks like God has just set down a gigantic red sandstone bell on the ground. It is visible and recognizable for miles around. There is a $5 parking-lot fee, but the mystical, out-of-this-world hiking and biking activities around the base of the rock make it all well worth it. Climbing the rock is a little difficult without good hiking shoes and some rock-climbing panache and sensibility, but the view from the top is stunning. Bell Rock is reputedly a frequent site of UFO activity, because of the magnetic attraction of the energy vortexes encircling its base. The intense redness of Bell Rock is caused by the presence of iron in the sandstone -- the rust from the iron content makes Bell Rock look crimson. Sunsets are especially spectacular there. You may think you've left Earth and landed on Mars! Walk around its base and see if you can detect Bell Rock pulling on you!

From the Bell Rock parking lot, there are multiple hikes available. For those wanting an easy hike with good views, simply follow the path to Bell Rock itself. From there, you can either scramble up Bell Rock as far as you wish, or you can hike around Bell Rock.

For those who want a more ambitious hike, follow the path for the Park Loop, which takes you around both Bell Rock and Court House Butte. The hike is interesting, taking you through ever-changing scenery, but is relatively flat with simple slopes. I'd recommend this hike both for the avid hiker looking for a beautiful place to hike and for the casual hiker, looking for something not too strenuous.

Come to red rock beauty early as you can, when the sun is low, the heat is friendly and the trails are quiet. Bell Rock is easy access, from the parking to the accessible trails. Hike along the base, among the plants, pinons, cacti, all set against the pink-red-orange background. Whether you climb to the top, a vigorous hike, or enjoy the easier strolls around the base or mid-butte, a soul-stirring date with a natural wonder.
