“Wonder Sedona Stay”
Reviewed August 4, 2009

This B&B was just lovely. The rooms are very quaint with wonderful bathrooms and balconies with views of the scenic buttes. The cook was great, and Whitney, one of our hosts was very hospitable. I HIGHLY recommend the Penrose for any stay in Sedona. We only stayed one night, but I was sad to have left so soon. If I'm ever back in Sedona, I will definitely stay at this place.

The Penrose was a wonderful experience in a unique, beautiful location. The whole facility looked like new and the rooms were furnished in a contemporary Southwest character without being over-themed.
Our room, The Kokopelli, had a whirlpool tub for two , unobstructed views of the beautiful Sedona red cliffs, and HD television. Linens and furnishings were tasteful and everything was very clean and well maintained.
The Owners were very pleasant and accommodating to special dietary requests and had lots of snacks and drinks for guests. Breakfast was fantastic.
This is "Bed and Breakfast" at its best !

I t was our first trip to Sedona so we were very pleased that the staff at the Penrose offered to set up all our dinner and other reservations when we booked our room. The owners are very knowledgeable about Sedona and the surrounding area. Pick their brains about everything from restaurants to hiking trails.

We were visiting Arizona on business and were able to extend our trip a little heading to Sedona and on to the Grand Canyon. We stayed at the Penrose for 1 night.

The Penrose was easy to find and has ample car parking. We were greeted by Christie, one of the owners, who showed us around the amenities of the house and to our room. She told us the time for breakfast, and checked what we liked to drink in the morning and if we had any food allergies or dislikes. It is worth mentioning that every evening they have snacks set out for their guests (that night it was homemade cookies!) and they have a fridge well stocked with a variety of cold drink as well as a coffee machine and hot water for tea.

Our room, with two-person hot-tub had exceptional views of this beautiful location. The linens and the bed were very comfortable and the shower was extremely powerful. The room had a folder, which must have taken a great deal of time to put together, that had local information including guest reviews of restaurants, and activities. It is worth mentioning that as well as restaurant reviews, in the living room they a folder with many menus. The entire property has wireless internet which worked well in our room and proved useful for trip planning.

Breakfast was exceptional, particularly the view from the veranda area! Often B&B breakfast fare is nice, but fairly standard. However, in line with the many gourmet restaurants in Sedona, their breakfast was wonderful. First we were served drinks: We both drank hot tea of which they had several selections. We also had iced water and orange juice. They then brought us strawberry compote. This was followed with a blue corn fritter with pine nuts and fruit salsa. Between courses, the owner Whitney came to speak with us to check how our stay had been, to find out our plans and offer any assistance. He offered to talk us through some of the local hikes after breakfast. He was also keen to know where we had eaten the previous night and if we recommended it. After breakfast he spread a large map of the Sedona region over the dining table and discussed some of the hikes with us. If he is reading, I can certainly say we enjoyed the two hikes he helped us choose! The other staff they had working at breakfast time were also very friendly and efficient. In fact they helped me fill my Camelback with ice for the long hike ahead!

Check out was painless and we felt like we had been treated like royalty! We were sad that the stay had only been one night, and are keen to return! If you enjoy great views, food and friendliness, I would greatly recommend The Penrose!

We were so smitten with the place from the moment we got there. They really made us feel like they were welcoming us into their home. They were genuinely happy to have us staying there, you can't fake that. It's the little things that mean the most and that you really remember like the treats left on the dining room table late at night if we got the munchies.. And the personal touch like chit chatting with us during breakfast, which was amazingly prepared I might add. A beautifully presented breakfast with delicious and fresh ingredients was really the icing on the cake. We left with warm fuzzy feelings about the Penrose. I wanna come back asap!!!!!

We just returned from 4 nights at the Penrose in the Kokopeli room. The views are spectacular, the food is delicious (Thanks Judy & Christy). Whitney was a wonderul source of information. We felt we were staying at a friends home. It is 5 star all the way. If you want to relax - just do it. Wonderful dinners at Cowboy Club (Silver saddle room), Dahl & DiLuca & Cucina Rustica. I would not hesitate to bo back to any of them and most definately to the Penrose. We will be back.
