“Great views; great hosts; great location.”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

We had a wonderful experience at the Penrose. Whitney and Christie were outstanding hosts: Whitney had recommendations and experience for seemingly every hike in the area; Christie provided ideas about local restaurants, and her menu for breakfast each day was incredible. On top of their hospitality and knowledge of the area, the Penrose provided wonderful lodging. While our room was of just adequate size, it was very well appointed, and the house itself had every amenity. More important, it is situated in a particularly scenic and quiet locale: on a hill, almost directly beneath a high pinnacle; right at the edge of a residential neighborhood with no other houses or structures to the west and north; and with great views of local rock monuments – mornings in our room were spent watching the sun rise and color the various buttes and crests. All told, this is the best B&B we’ve ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Ask for the Coconino Room. It faces north and east: great views.

We had a very pleasant and happy experience at the Penrose. The food and hospitality were yummy, the rooms and common rooms are just lovely, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. We felt like family, and the surprise parting gifts certainly treated us that way. It is not in the hub bub of central Sedona, but we preferred it that way. Being in the midst of the red rocks was breathtaking.
For our fellow Jewish travelers, it was a short distance from a gorgeous synagogue with a great view as well. We attended Shabbat services and it was delightful.

Room Tip: I have some mobility issues, and requested a room on the main floor . It was lovely and I had no st...

We only spent one night at the Penrose, but we loved it. It really does have the best views around, and is nestled just below Castle Rock. You won't be disappointed. The hosts were great and the breakfast was delicious. The homebaked goods and the little surprise treats on our way out made the experience even more special.

Took my Father here for a weekend birthday excursion around Sedona and we had a wonderful stay.

Both Whitney and Christine (+ Francine and everyone!) made our short time there a memorable experience. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast was fantastic, and the extra attention given by all felt genuine & sincere; much appreciated.

Adding, the views from the rooms are simply breathtaking, as the location is well-situated in the valley, quiet & remote from road noise. Not forgetting, the homemade bar-cookies are a nice touch; just delicious!

Final word: All in all, absolutely no complaints; definitely recommend! :)

Room Tip: The higher the better ;)

We stayed at the Penrose in April this year and it was the perfect place to stay; we hated to leave. Your hosts’ Whitney and Christine Pope take very good care of you. The service is excellent and the views from our balcony in the Kokopelli room were beautiful. It was a joy to tip toe down to the kitchen an hour before breakfast each day, pour two cups of dark roast, perfectly brewed, coffee and return to our room to enjoy the red rock views from our quiet balcony. Breakfast was always delicious featuring delightful variations on fresh fruit cups followed by the main course. At night it was easy to heat hot water for tea and eat one of Christine’s freshly made delicious treats.

Whitney was knowledgeable and very helpful in planning our daily hikes. I liked his map so much I went looking through two towns to buy one just like it. The loose leaf binder in our room suggesting points of interest and restaurants was comprehensive and the destinations were as advertised.

You are treated like family here. You feel relaxed. You feel at home.

We will stay here again on our next trip to Sedona.
