After a three night stay at the Grand Canyon, and during a March snowstorm, we arrived at L'Auberge de Sedona for a one night stay on our way back to Phoenix. Obviously, because of the weather, we were not in the best mood. However, upon arrival to the L'Auberge, the friendly staff put us in better spirits. First, a amiable New Zealander let us check-in early (we arrived early because we skipped our planned hike of the West Fork of Oak Creek Canyon) and upgraded our room from the lodge to a cabin. Also, the valets quickly returned my cell phone and my wife's earrings, which we had inadvertently left in the car because of travel stress and our distress over the weather. Further, a knowledgeable Australian concierge let us know some "local" sites to see since the main attractions were snowed out. Moreover, a friendly Wisconsiner showed us our room, which was a brand new cabin, complete with flat-screen tv, fireplace, hardwood floors with rug, poster bed, comfortable oversized chairs, raised desk, and enormous bathroom with outdoor shower (not that we used the outdoor shower in the snowstorm). We were able to hike a little, and the valets even washed off our boots for us because they were caked with red mud. Finally, although a little pricey, dinning at the hotel restaurant was a welcome experience in terms of food and service after three days of Grand Canyon restaurants and food. In the future, we hope to see Sedona again without the snow and would stay at L'Auberge again.
