“An experience like no other hotel or resort”
Reviewed July 16, 2011

When you read of resorts everyone thinks that it is going to be heavenly. A lot of the time they are not even close. Most resorts charge for EVERYTHING and you are usually worried about having enough 1's and 5's for tipping. This place blew away any resort or hotel I have ever stayed at. When I told my wife we were going to be staying in a cottage/cabin, she was of course skeptical. When we arrived the first thing the valet said was "There is no tipping here except for meals or at the bar". I took my 5 put it back in my pocket and looked at my wife with an odd face. We walked in and they had us sit down at the front desk where a very nice employee walked us through everything at the resort and handed us an events calendar along with a pass for 2 free glasses of wine at the bar. My wife was of course very excited for the free wine. A bell man took our bags to our cottage and showed us around pointed out every little feature, even how to turn on and off the fireplace (which was powered by remote). The cottage was nothing short of exceptional. It had a spa tub, 2 showers (one indoor and one outdoor cedar shower), a large bathroom with two sinks, a large room with a King bed, plasma TV, fireplace, desk, fridge, and the beautiful back porch that overlooked the red rock formations of Sedona. My wife laid on the bed and said "Ok now I am relaxed". We decided to check out the bar and get our free wine. The bartender was one of the best I have ever had and his name was Russell. We came back every night just to see him there. When I tell you that it would be hard to top this, I mean it. The location was also exceptional. It was about 40min from Flagstaff, 2hrs from the Grand Canyon, 1.5hrs from the Meteor Crater, and near more national parks than I could count. If you want a wonderful, relaxing trip where you can just enjoy the beauty that is America, this is the place to go.

Room Tip: Get a Spa Cottage. TravelZoo had a deal on them.

After reading some reviews, I was a little apprehensive that rooms would not be as nice as expected. First, I have not encountered a hotel where all the staff is committed to making your stay wonderful. Everyone, really tries their very best from getting your car to taking you to your room. We had a spa room with a four poster King bed. The bed is
really comfy with nice linens. The fireplace is gas in these rooms. The sitting area has very comfy chairs with a leather ottoman for two that doubles as a small table. There is a nice wood armoire for clothes, and a mini fridge tucked into a wood cabinet with a Keurig coffee maker. The patio had a nice table and chairs and a lounge chair. Our room had a little water feature by the patio. The landscaping around the entire hotel is lovely and relaxing. As most have commented, the creek is lovely and relaxing. The bathrooms are large with two showers, the indoor one has a seat, and the shower head has a double adjusting shower head. I noticed that it can adjust by pushing up straight, so someone tall or short can adjust where the water hits. The bath products are ones that you find in nicer hotels. Also, the towels are nice and heavy, and they provide one bath sheet. I appreciated the modern double sinks and lighting that can be dimmed. The bath tub was a large jacuzzi tub that you can easily change the degree of massage, and I didn't run out of hot water after filling it which sometimes happens at resorts. The patio bar by the restaurant has tables with small fire pits. We went into the lodge to use the business center for printing boarding passes; the lodge is decorated nicely with a lovely seating area. It was warm while we were there, but our air conditioning worked really well. Everyone is right, the astronomy guy is fun, but his equipment is fragile, so I wouldn't take young kids. The hotel is putting in a pool and jacuzzi; they looked like that they were about 3/4 done when we were there. Also, the hotel has a small observation building high above the garage. You can see some of the red rocks from there. You might be able to walk up to it, but I know that they will take you to it in a golf cart. Last thing, all parking is valet, but the daily resort fee covers the tip for your entire stay. The bell men/valet guys are all really nice. They make sure you have free cold water, and they wash your window when you checkout. Brian, Scott, and Ryan were all exceptional when we encountered them over our five day stay for our 30th anniversary. Sometimes, Travel Zoo has a deal for this hotel. When, I made reservations I was told that the Spa cabins were an upgrade over the Creek cabins. The Spa cabins are the only ones with the jacuzzi tub, and they are close to the spa, but we didn't try the spa.

I don't write reviews but I remember reading one or two negative ones before my destination wedding at L'Auberge, and it's hard to imagine that anyone could think of anything bad to say about it! My wedding weekend for 30 guests was perfect, and the staff waited on all of us hand and foot. Everything was excellent and I am certain all of our friends and family from NJ, NY, Boston, Florida, North Carolina, London and even Australia have gone back home raving about and recommending L'Auberge. As a bride who also owns an event company, I had very high standards and was skeptical that they'd be met anywhere. Meghan and her team were fabulous and left no detail overlooked. Can't wait to go back!

A beautiful hotel with top-notch service and amenities. The entire resort has such a calm, pleasant atmosphere. The creek provides a wonderful backdrop for your stay, and despite the fact that this is a top-notch hotel, it was casual enough that you felt just as comfortable in hiking t-shirts and shorts as you did dressed up for dinner. All of the staff were friendly and not pretentious at all.

We stayed in a spa cottage (#70) which was absolutely perfect. It had a large bedroom with sitting area and fireplace. We had a private patio with a table and chairs and lounge chair, a mini fridge, and a Keurig coffee maker. Complimentary bottled water was restocked every day. Our bathroom was probably the highlight of the stay. Two amazing showers, one indoor, one outdoor; a Jacuzzi tub; bathrobes; and nice bath products. The bed was very comfortable, and nightly turn down service was provided.

Each morning, complimentary coffee, hot chocolate, tea, and scones were available in the lodge. This was excellent! We would walk down and get some breakfast, and then go sit down by the creek in one of the many available seats down there to eat our breakfast and read the paper. In the afternoons, cookies were also available in the lodge. We each were given a complimentary glass of wine to enjoy during our stay as well.

A free car service is available to take you “up the hill” to the shops and restaurants within close proximity. The valet service was very speedy, so we found it convenient to use our own car to go places that were not within their range of service. No tipping is allowed, so you’re not shelling out cash every time you want your car.

The pool was under construction while we were there and would certainly be a nice addition to this property.

Our only meal at L’auberge was lunch, which was excellent. The setting down by the creek was so serene and pleasant. The food (L’auberge Burger and Turkey Panini with L’auberge fries) was wonderful, and not too pricey. The service was great.

All in all, this is an extraordinary hotel, and we would definitely love to stay there again. I liked the style of the hotel, which was more European than Southwestern. Service was prompt and courteous and never stuffy or pretentious.

Just returned from a 3 night stay totally relaxed. Hotel is wonderful. Location perfect, right in town but worlds away. Room was great and the AC was so welcome after spending the days in 100 degree eat. Staff was friendly courteous. we especially loved the roof top free astronomy given by Dennis the local astronomer. Dennis was a wealth of celestial knowledge combined with a great personality and enthusiasm for the universe. We would only stay at this hotel given another opportunity to vacation in Sedona.

If you're looking for a luxury experience while in Sedona, L'Auberge de Sedona is for you. The packages available offer a nice deal if you plan to eat at the hotel and/or use the spa services. I highly recommend the creekside cabin which will give you an outstanding environment with Oak Creek lined with beautiful old trees right outside your door. If you prefer a red rock view, the resort has these also, but you'll see a lot of the famous rocks while you're out and about; try the creek!

The creekside cabins are freestanding, with a large combined bedroom/sitting area and a working fireplace. A fire is laid in the fireplace when you arrive and each day of your stay; firewood is also available outside your door. The room was simply and tastefully furnished, with wood floors covered with oriental rugs. Keurig coffemakers in the room are stocked with a large selection of coffee and tea, and a refrigerator is stocked with bottled water or holds your leftovers. There's a roomy deck overlooking the grounds and creek. Each cabin feels secluded and is quite romantic.

Meals are served in the restaurant which also overlooks the creek, as does the bar. There was an unseasonable cold spell while we were there so the creekside outdoor dining area wasn't used for the first few mornings, but it looked like a great place to dine.

Walking along the creek under huge sycamores, or sitting on the benches listening to the water, is a wonderful way to recover from a day hiking in the rocks.

Everyone on staff was very attentive and welcoming. The food is excellent. Everyone reminds you to stay hydrated, and bottled water is always available at no charge; you can even pick up a few bottles either chilled or room temp from the valet stand as you're leaving.

We also enjoyed a couples' massage ensuite (the spa was under renovation while there) with delightful, friendly and very expert massage therapists.

The resort is downhill from the Uptown area, but the hotel staff will take you to many attractions by golf cart (or, if you're a walker, it's a very short but steep walk.)

Ask about the schedule for the local astronomer, who gives lectures on the stars with his homemade, high-powered telescope.

Tlaquepaque was a nice shopping experience for us while there. We felt Sedona was a little short on good places to dine, but we did have a good meal or two in addition to the hotel restaurant.

Yes, it's snow on the balcony rail in the picture below; it snowed the afternoon we arrived but all the snow was gone by the next day and the temperatures were comfortable.

Room Tip: Creekside, the best views are rooms 4-7

Although the hotel room wasn't quite world class, it was clean and comfortable. This hotel has the best service you'll ever experience. Hands down.
