“Great place to relax”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

We have been coming to Garland's for 10 years. Never get tired of it. Food can't be beat. It's quiet and the cabins are very comfortable. Some hiking right from the Lodge and more rigorous is available a short drive away. It's also nice to just stay there sitting in the sun or shade and reading and watching the birds. It's so nice there we almost never go into Sedona which is very close.

Room Tip: We like the rooms on the lower level that are close to the lodge.

Fortunately Garland's had some openings in May so we were able to book two mid-week nights. Our goal was to do absolutely nothing but sleep late, read and enjoy the scenery and the food -- and all of our goals were met.

The grounds are lovely to walk. If you are a gardening fan like me, be sure to see the vegetable garden and greenhouse.

Two points that I haven't seen mentioned here. If you are staying on premises the whole day, it's a bit of a stretch between a late breakfast (ends at 10) and when "tea" rolls around at 4. I noticed some other folks had brought coolers, which I assume included beverages and snacks. I would probably do that in the future.

"Tea" is not a meal - they put out both black and herbal tea for ice tea, and hot water and tea bags. There's sliced crusty bread and a spread such as hummus or tuna salad. And there's a "sweet" such as cookies or a coffee cake. It's all very good but not substantial (not "high tea," in other words). You don't really want a big meal at 4 because dinner, which is very substantial, is as 7. But if you haven't eaten since 10, you might be pretty hungry.

Also note that alcohol at dinner or at cocktails (at 6) is an extra charge.

None of this is a complaint - just information. We were so happy with our stay that we are already booked for next year.

Garland's is located quite a ways away from the bustle and commercialism of Sedona and it serves delicious food for those of us who like healthy, fresh food. But with no television, limited WiFi, only the house line for phone calls and no immediate access to the hiking trails, you had better be there with someone you really love! Meals are communal so you need to also be a people person too. We learned that it has a two night minimum but were lucky to call for a room on a quiet, pre-season night and one night was plenty for us. The ownership and staff are very welcoming and I bought their cookbook because it contained recipes for several items which were really memorable.

If you're long time Arizona resident you know of or have stayed at Garland's Lodge one time or another. If you're looking for a quiet retreat in one of the most beautiful locations in the world and enjoy being in the heart of this beauty by kicking back at one of the rustic though thoroughly spotless and thoughtfully designed cabins then you will not be disappointed with Garland's. The staff listens to your requests such as any food issues or special celebrations and handles them with total professionalism yet in a relaxed sincere manner. As for consistency, the night before last was one of 28 years of visiting Garland's though some years I missed, but the stay was as good as it was in July1984. Trying to describe the food would not be fair unless you experience and you should. If you haven't tried Garland's yet, you should!

This small lodge style resort is a very popular place to stay. Along with your cabin, you are treated to an amazing dinner and breakfast. Very warm friendly staff guarantees an experience you won't forget.

Room Tip: Cabins 1, 2 and 3 are on Oak Creek.

We try to get to Garlands at least twice a season. We dream about it when we are not there!
We have stayed in a number of the cabins. We have our favorites. The scenery is spellbinding. Dinner is always a wonderful experience. Each course beautifully presented. Part of the Garland's experience is to sit with other guests. We have always enjoyed this. Getting to know other people. Sometimes they have come from great distances across the US. Breakfast is wonderful. A special treat is fresh caught trout! Yoga above the creek in the apple orchard is a lovely, relaxing experience. Sitting on the porch and reading. Exploring the apple orchard, the garden and walking down to the creek. Cannot wait until our next visit!

Room Tip: We like cabins on the lodge level. You are able to walk over to the lodge to get coffee and bring b...

This was our second trip to the Garland's Lodge and it confirmed our decision to return. Wonderful atmosphere, great food and a good base for hiking and other touring. I think it has become an annual must-do!
