Owner description: Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. The creek meanders through the park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian habitat provides the setting and the opportunity for the park to offer a focus on environmental education. Red Rock offers a variety of special programs for school groups and private groups. There are a number of daily and weekly park events. The park offers a visitors center, classroom, theater, park store, ramada and hiking trails.

All of Sedona is beautiful, but this park was easy to hike, had great views and was a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.

I am drawn to desert landscapes with creeks or rivers running through them. The West For of Oak Creek in Sedona is one such area, but it is often crowded with tourists. Oak Creek also runs through Red Rock State Park and it is far less crowded there. And of course, there are the beautiful red rocks. For some reason the park is rarely as crowded as other parts of Sedona (perhaps because it is about a 25 minute drive from the center of town) so it's a good alternative if you want a quieter Sedona experience.

Nice walking in the shade of trees, wading in the stream. Viewing surrounding mountains from restaurants is just as fine.

Lucky enough to have a tour with the volunteer guides who were very knowledgeable. Nice place to keep cool: trails leading down and around Oak Creek - different scenery (green areas vs. Red rocks). Park is well kept and the trails are easy and relatively short. Saw some wildlife as well.

This has to be one of my favorite places in the United States. We hiked four different trails. We took picnic lunches and just stayed until we could not take the heat any more. We even shared the trail with a lone coyote. He was beautiful. No wonder some think the area is mysterious.
