Owner description: Red Rock State Park is a 286 acre nature preserve and environmental education center with stunning scenery. Trails throughout the park wind through manzanita and juniper to reach the rich banks of Oak Creek. Green meadows are framed by native vegetation and hills of red rock. The creek meanders through the park, creating a diverse riparian habitat abounding with plants and wildlife. This riparian habitat provides the setting and the opportunity for the park to offer a focus on environmental education. Red Rock offers a variety of special programs for school groups and private groups. There are a number of daily and weekly park events. The park offers a visitors center, classroom, theater, park store, ramada and hiking trails.

We went to Red Rock, parked and just started hiking. From the parking lot to the rocks, there as a small path, but once you get to the rock formations, you can go anywhere you want and climb on all the rocks. Some are huge and people get stuck, so the fire department rock rescue team has to come out and get the people down (so you have been warned). Great for little kids to get their energy out but be careful they dont slip.

Park w/ several fairly short hiking trails to get some great views. We stuck to the easier trails since my mom couldn't do a lot of steps or steep inclines. Nice walks along a creek, trees, and then gradual climb to great views. We spent about 2 hrs and could have easily stayed longer.

If you have watched the Westerns, then you have seen Red Rock Crossing. In many movies. Very peaceful place. Kids can play in the Oak Creek. Great place for a picnic.

I have been to Red Rock State Park many times. If you are interested in geology, botany, zoology or hiking, this is the place to go. The park is dedicated to protecting the environment and education. The first thing you should do, is see the forty minute film. This will really enhance your experience at the park. Everyday at ten and two there is a guided nature hike. The volunteer hike leaders are very knowledgable, and you will leave knowing a lot more than you thought possible. There are a total of six miles of hiking trails that you can do on your own. "Eagle's Nest" is a terrific hike. The elevation gain is 300 feet, but it is easy. The views from the top are fantastic. There is a very informative exhibition center and a gift shop. Bring a lunch as there are some lovely picnic areas. The entrence fee is ten dollars for up to four people in a vehicle. The best value for the buck in Sedona.

I was not overwhelmed by this park and actually enjoyed the views on State Route 179 more than the ones in the park.
