Owner description: Breathtaking in its red rock beauty, the Canyon is a spectacular 16-mile gorge with streams and waterfalls between sheer rock walls.

We stopped at the Grasshopper park near Sedona on a June afternoon. It has a GREAT swimming hole in the river where children can jump off a ledge into the river. It is a very family friendly stop. The hike on the trail along the river is also good, but be careful of the poison ivy!

I always hike the creek when in Sedona. No matter where your point of origin is it is always beautiful and serene.

Lots of options to stop off and have a look and even to swim or hike. But beware, a recreational pass of $5 is mandatory, but doens't include entrance fee into the swimming holes!

No matter if you go from Sedona to Flagstaff or vice versa, it is most defintiely well worth taking 89A thruogh Oak Creek canyon. Besides being the direct route between the two towns, it is also scenic beyond belief. You often hear folks going on about how prohibitively steep and winding and all it was - well, there is a short - emphasis on short - stretch where the road winds through a few switchbacks. You need to go really slow there, but as long as you stick to the road, you're perfectly fine.
The views are stependousoly gorgeous. Coming from Flagstaff, you first drive thruogh woods, and then the road descends into the canyon, opening up panoramic vistas olf the fanciful red rock formations that make Sedona unique. Further down you're in the woods again, the road meandering parallel with the Oak Creek. You'll see several rustic campgrounds in the woods alolng the road, as well as Slide Rock SP.

Very popular play area along Oak Creek. Stop and get wet but be prepared for crowds especially on weekends and holidays.
