Not as much area to hike as I thought there would be... unless we didn't find it. went for a little walk and then down to the water. the area is gorgeous and the water is beautiful. the water is COLD... went in June...way too cold for this Floridian. Many were swimming but others thought it was way too cold too. I'm guessing the water was 50s or 60s. Got in just up to our waists and just long enough for a few pics. old equipment as you walk in was interesting little bonus. Definitely worth the trip. By the way, i had read other reviews saying go early in morning when they open and not on weekend, as it gets really packed by noon and more so on weekends. I went weekday 8-830 am i think... there were lots of people, but didn't think it was too packed. We climbed up rocks after hanging in the water instead of taking path to exit... that was a lot of fun too..

On a hot September afternoon, this was a rollicking busy place, but there was plenty of space for everyone. The rocks were slippery, but the cold water was the perfect reprieve from the afternoon sun. Above, there was a shaded hiking loop with some shrub and tree labels.

It’s a natural wonder with natural water slides created by the river running through volcanic rocks. The beautiful natural setting and scenic. background are unbelievably gorgeous. The only problem is that the rocks are very slippery because of the algae growing on them, so you have you sit down to move. Walking in the slippery river bed is not safe, I don’t think even with water shoes though we didn’t have any. My kids slipped each once while trying to walk and learned to sit and slide. The water is so super cold when you first enter but after about five minutes you get used to the cold temperature and find it actually refreshing especially when it’s hot outside. To get into the state park they charge $20 per car or $5 for those walking in. There is only a very short couple of minute walk to the river from parking lot. You should try to go with swim shorts and shirt rather than bikini to protect your back from getting rubbed on the sand on the river bed. We loved our experience which I found to be quite unique. Would love to go back.

We brought a picnic lunch and ate in the canyon. The creek was nice and cool and the kids enjoyed swimming and playing around in the water. The sliding part was decent but you have to be careful when walking around the water, the algae make it really slippery and we saw several people fall.

Had the best time ever. The only bad was was it was Saturday on Labor Day weekend. I’m not sure why pop up tents area allowed but they really ruin the atmosphere. They also make it difficult for people to walk around.
Having been to slide rock many times as a kid.
I just love sliding through the rocks!!!
