“Motel not Hotel”
Reviewed July 26, 2007

O.K., so where did the resort part of 3 Palms Resort come from? This is a motel. All rooms are accessible from the outside only. It is very difficult to find. If you turn the wrong way from the freeway, beware of tumbleweeds. The staff of 2 was helpful and friendly. The a/c never actually cooled the room below 76. If this motel were ever really busy, check in/out would be a nightmare. The lobby is very small and there are literally only 2 people working the "front desk" or podium. Do not consider for business travel if you expect the normal business services. Their "business center" was in the "rec room" and did not have paper for printing. It was simply a computer and a chair. A little deceptive in the way they market their motel. I never stay at motels because of the safety issue and quite frankly, I'm a bit of a travel snob. We chose this place because it looked cool, was available during Spring Training and was close enough to ASU for a one night stay. Would not stay again and would not recommend.

  • Liked — The staff was friendly and really tried to be helpful with the broken a/c
  • Disliked — Motel not hotel; Zero services and/or amenities; Weird location

My family and I stayed at 3 Palms during baseball spring training and enjoyed our stay somewhat. The first thing everyone should understand is this is not a "Resort". It's a converted motel - which most people would say they did a fine job with what they had to work with. The rooms were nice size and afforded some privacy for my wife and I, but they were a little ackward in their configuration and setup. The 2 bedroom suites can handle a family of 5 which is more than most hotels can't/won't accomidate. Here's where we had problems: No restaurant on site or in reasonable walking distance, the shuttle to the ballpark was unreliable and sporadic - at times we waited so long we took a cab instead, noisy - there were parties going everynight, the layout of the resort was like a typical motor lodge/hotel - it didn't have the feel of a resort or even a nice place. Here are the good things: staff was very nice and accomidating, facility was clean, pool was nice, pool bar was nice and friendly, the kids liked the retro furniture and style of the rooms. Overall - I don't think we'll go back unless we are in a pinch to get a room.

My husband and I took a last minute trip to Scottsdale this past weekend and loved the trip, but were not all that impressed with the 3 Palms. It is more of a "motel" than a "Hotel". You access your room from the outside, such as in a Holiday Inn. The rooms have been updated and they do offer good amenities such as a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, etc. The price was good too. It is just not as advertised.

Basically - clean, reasonably priced room, but nothing to write home about.

  • Liked — I liked the price and the room amenities
  • Disliked — The orange everywhere and the access to the room from the outside

Being a frequent traveler to Arizona I found this wonderful little hotel in the heart of Scottsdale. The hotel is very hip and retro, clean rooms and centrally located and close to shopping, restaurants and the interstate. I found the staff to be wonderful, very friendly; they make you feel like you are at a 5 star hotel… I enjoyed the pool area and you can receive a great massage on site… A great value~

Very nice pool and brand new fitness area. Room was remodeled, but awkward. Example, unable to view TV from anywhere besides the bed, and had to close cabinet doors covering TV to walk from bathroom to couch or front door. Found the refrigerator and DVD player in the same cabinet under the TV, same issue with the cabinet doors. Bed was comfy. Staff were friendly and upbeat. Surrounding area was very pleasant. Not a resort, but definitely not a dump either.

Pretty impressive lobby, all white, minimalist (as rest of the premises), mostly clean. Young and dynamic frontdesk personnel. Inn converted to a motel, not a hotel definitely. Yet, pretty impressive and stylish. Rooms are very nicely decorated, beds are very very comfy with down pillows and comforters. Bath and restroom are together in one very tiny room, walls of which was completly covered with black marble, looks luxurious yet makes you feel a little trapped. Nice hot water supply. Pretty pool area. There is a bar at the pool, however, was closed due to incomplete renovation. B/c of the same reason, there was no room service, no breakfast. Locationwise, a little awkward. Yes, it is close to Scottsdale (compared to Pheonix!) but it is on a street lined with auto dealers. But it is right next to a recreational area where you see people strolling and biking around an artificical pool. After seeing downtown Scottsdale and the hotels on the Scottsdale Drive, I regretted staying in this hotel. Even the Double Tree there is very attractive. So explore your options in that area first. We paid an average of $150 per night.

This review is written from the computer in the "business center" after four nights with one more night to go. The summary - a nice orange coat of paint on a Motel 6, what the paint can't cover is everything you expect from a "resort".

Rooms - Not bad if you only need a place to sleep, except for the thin walls, a broken thermostat, and inconsistent water temperature in the bath.

Staff - The staff are kind but all under 25 with little to no hospitality experience - ex. being sent to a restaurant on a night it was closed. They know the area little better than my wife and I who have vacationed here for one week over the last three years.

Facilities - A decent pool but five dollars for a bottled beer (Bud or Bud Light) makes poolside less than attractive. The on-site restaurant is under construction so "room service" is delivered from nearby places.

Value - We looked up our room rate today and discovered our rate was half what we had booked online a month ago. The room rates change everyday it seems based on occupancy. It maybe good for day to day business, but not a way to encourage regular guests. At $150 a night (online today for $87) it is hard to say it is worth it.

If you are looking for a "cool place" with a nice coat of paint then the 3 Palms is for you. If you are looking for a bit more from a "resort" keep looking.
