“Cheapest during auction week but too noisy!”
Reviewed January 24, 2008

I was in Scottsdale during the very busy auction week and the Extended Stay Deluxe was reasonably close to Barrett-Jackson and the 101 and 51 freeways. Here's a list of good and bad starting with the good.
Good-
*The parking was plentiful all around the hotel. It was uncovered, but almost all places in this price are.
* The room was only $130 for each night (Thurs- Sat) and the next lowest priced hotel was over $220/night. It came with a small kitchen with utensils, plates, cookware, small microwave, stove top and good sized refrigerator. It had a small sofa, work desk, TV and stand, queen bed.
* The bathroom was not outdated and had an adjustable showerhead at the proper 6 foot height with good water pressure.
*Check-in was easy and there's a small area for the free breakfasts (which I didn't use)
* The pool area looked nice, with lots of lounges and they even had a picnic area with a gas grill. It was too cold to go swimming but in warm weather I could see hanging out there.

Bad-
* The worse thing about this place was the walls were paper thin! I had neighbors get in late and when they were talking I thought they were inside my room! Everytime anyone entered or exited their rooms I could hear their doors automatically slam shut! I also couldn't turn on the huge A/C to mask the noise because it was also way too noisy! I would never stay here in summer unless they put me in a room with updated, quiet air conditioning.
* The thin walls also let in the smell of cigarette smoke, which is still allowed in Arizona apparently.
* When I got into bed the first night and pulled back the covers there were 2 long, black hairs on the bed sheet. I don't have too much of a problem with that but I know some people would and I have never seen that before even in motels at half the price.
* There was no dresser to put my clothes in, only one shelf in the dressing area. The closet had no door, just half a shelf at waist level and a shelf up high that was full with extra pillows, blankets and towels. I ended up putting my suitcase on half of the sofa and dressing in front of it.
* The towels were also very thin and rough. Not something I was expecting
* If you don't stay a full week there is no maid service and they don't change the linen or towels. For me this was actually a PLUS, because I don't like wasting water on washing sheets and towels every day and I don't need strangers in my room when I'm not there. There's also no lotions or shampoos in the rooms - only bar soaps.
But once again some people might find that odd at these prices.

If I had to stay here again I would have to request the most quiet room, make sure the air conditioner is quiet and have plenty of sleeping pills to get through the night.

  • Liked — Great pool area, easy parking
  • Disliked — Too noisy with thin walls, hard bed, curtains wouldn't close all the way, no SpeedTV on television!

Was well located, close to many restaurants, etc. in Scottsdale area. Convenient to 101 and 51.

The room was clean, liked the kitchen alot.

My biggest beef was that no internet access was provided in the lobby.

I was there Sat and Sunday and it's correct that breakfast (very simple, bagels, coffee, juice and fruit) is only offered on weekdays.

  • Disliked — No internet

The studio suite, cost and location made this a good value. I always appreciate a kitchen, esp. a refrigerator. There are dozens of restaurants within a few blocks of the hotel, many walkable. Shops galore. Safeway grocery about 2 blocks away. Compact layout but good amenities. Only complaint would be the bed linens: blanket worn and not in good condition; sheets thin. Bed was comfortable. Bath towels somewhat small and thin. Wireless Internet worked great. Some noise from nearby rooms but the evening was quiet. Great pool and spa area for a hotel of this class.

As noted by another reviewer, breakfast was meager. Get your own at the grocery store the night before. Coffee was good.

Note that the earlier review by TexTrav is actually about another Extended Stay property at 15501 N. Scottsdale Rd. not this property.

We got this room through Priceline and stayed one night. The room was clean and we appreciated the kitchen, but we had a couple problems. We were expecting a continental breakfast and asked what time it would be. We were told there was no breakfast on the weekends. We had a tv but it didn't face the bed or the sofa. And it didn't swivel, making it useless to watch tv in bed. It was attached to the dresser. We had to move the sofa to watch tv. I had brought some DVD's to play, and the dvd player didn't work and kept trapping the dvd in it. We were told the maintenance man wouldn't be in until Monday.

  • Liked — Refrigerator and microwave
  • Disliked — TV in an odd position...not convenient...not breakfast

Stayed one night at Sierra Suites in March. Small, cramped front entry and lobby. Studio suite was clean, but space for queen bed was so constricted that there was a bedside table and light on one side only. Bathroom was kind of small. There is no dining area for the continental breakfast -- you have to carry cereal and coffee back to your room. The Sirra Suites is well located, but I think there are better choices in the same price range in Scottsdale.

For an exteneded stay, Sierra Suites is much nicer than equally priced hotel. All suites have full kitchens that are not within view of the bed. It's great to be able to have a quick breakfast or lunch in the suite and then go off into Phoenix and Scottsdale. It's very close to spas, shopping, and great resturants. The Mayo Clinic is just down the road as well. There's a pool and hot tub outside, and a fitness room inside. There's also full maid service and the staff is very friendly.
