One of our favorite stay-cations. The resort is spectacular nestled at the base of Camelback mountain. Excellent outdoor spaces, multiple swimming pools and 27 holes of golf. The resort also offers choices in dining from casual poolside to upscale.

Room Tip: Rooms are aging but very clean and well serviced. Choice of mountain or resort view. I prefer the Ca...

When we previously stayed at The Phoenician, we found the service to be uniformly excellent. Unfortunately we can not say the same for our last visit. Check-in was slow, although there were two working the front desk and we were "next in line". When I had made our reservations directly with the hotel reservations I was specific as to our room's view (Camelback Mountain) and was assured we would have it. After a long day and slow check-in, we arrived to our room to find a view of the convention center roof. Our room assignment was corrected when we immediately returned to the front desk, where we were asked if we had used any of the amenities in our original room. Really? We did love the view from our room. Camelback is a desert-view room and is not considered by the resort to be one of the premium views. If you enjoy quiet, privacy, and a wonderful view of the mountain, it's the absolute best choice. As far as experiences with other staff during our stay: We enjoyed breakfast each morning in the coffee shop, where the staff was extremely friendly and fast, despite a large convention in attendance. We appreciated the friendliness and helpfulness of the woman running the tennis pro shop. The maid service was excellent. And, our waitress in the bar was great. On the negative was the pool staff. Although the pool was not crowded, the service staff appeared to want to converse between themselves and stand in the shade rather than check on their guests. We waited twenty minutes before searching someone out to get a pitcher of ice water. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would consider returning. But, we hope that our next experience would provide us with more uniform excellent service.

Room Tip: Although rooms in the front offer panoramic views of the golf course, beautiful pools and downtown P...

I've stayed in this property many many times over the last 15 years. It used to be elegant and regal with its High Tea service and the classic five star bar with the requisite background live piano. The hotel now seems to cater to children and thrive on high volume deeply discounted weekends. While I recognize the need to summer revenue, The Phoenician has lowered its standards of class and decorum. The service in the hotel is excellent and the staff is well trained, the rooms are very clean and amenities above average and the restaurants are fairly good but overpriced. The common areas of the hotel are still in gorgeous condition but the hotel hallways are dismal and the rooms are average and need complete remodel. Catering to the masses with deep discounts changes the complexion of this once stellar property. The Phoenician is a lovely property but it isn't "special"anymore.

Thank you for sharing your honest feedback with us. Although we have recently expanded our activities program for children, we can assure you that The Phoenician’s Five Diamond standards have not changed, and our commitment to providing exceptional experiences remains strong. We take great pride in our service levels and cleanliness – as they are two very important pillars to our success – and we appreciate your comments. We understand that guestrooms are in need of a refresh and we are happy to report that they are scheduled for renovation within the next year. We thank you for being a loyal guest for the past 15 years – we hope to welcome you back for many years to come.

My husband and I just stayed at the Phoenician for 5 nights during the labor day weekend. We got the unlimited golf package which is a great deal! We were really impressed with the hotel. The lobby is grand and beautiful! Their art collection being displayed all over the hotel is impressive! The room is very spacious and comfortable! But what impressed us the most is their customer service! Everyone working there is really friendly and wants to make sure you have a good time there.

We would definitely come back!

Great hotel with nice large rooms, baths and beds. Super patio and pools galore. Play golf, hike , bike and enjoy the sun. Hotel has underground parking (your car stays cooler) and is located at the base of camelback mountain.

I came here for a conference. Even with a conference discount, this Starwood property was definitely a high-priced resort. That being said, service was fantastic. We took a cab into the property, and the bellhop immediately took our luggage and delivered it to the room. Check-in was smooth. Our room was slightly dated (worn out sofa, carpet, wall studs), but still elegant. Complementary shoe shine was offered, and turn-down service was standard. The bathroom had high-end furnishings.

The pools were well-maintained, and had attentive pool service. I used the complementary bike rental to tour the property, and rode downtown. It was very convenient. The property also was within walking distance to Camelback mountain trail head, so hiking was available if you wanted to do more than lounging. There is also a cactus garden, and standard resort mallshops.

The Spa was also fantastic. I didn't use any services, only the facilities. There was a hot tub, sauna, shower, and a lounging area with complementary teas, coffees, and fruits.

We also dined at Il Terrazzo--overall, service was a good, but slow. The tiramisu dessert was underwhelming (tasty, but not spectacular).

I am a Starwood Preferred Plus member (ie: no status, only the SPG credit card).

I was disappointed in this hotel as I had quite high expectations after reading the reviews and seeing the ranking. The price exceeded the quality. I would highly recommend to anyone The Boulders, a Waldorf Astoria Resort in place of this hotel. It is not super near by, but it is so worth the 20 minute drive. I paid less for the Boulders and had an exceptional experience.
