“Nice but Overpriced”
Reviewed September 22, 2005

My husband and I recently stayed 5 nights at the Princess. The rooms were nice and the comforters on the bed were wonderful, but housekeeping was average at best. Shampoo, coffee, etc. were sparce and we had to call every day for missing items and towels.

The pool was great. It was the one standout amenity. They showed big screen movies every night poolside for the youngsters. We don't have little ones anymore but I thought it was a fantastic idea.

I had a massage at the spa which was $260. It was OK. I expect to pay double at a resort for these services but triple is a bit much. Also, I didn't much like that the nearly 20% gratuity was added to my bill ahead of time.

When we golfed, no less than 9 people handled our bags. One guy shuttled us over, one took the bags from the shuttle and placed them on the curb. Another picked them up from the curb, walked 2 feet and leaned them against the rack. The fourth picked them up from the rack and put them on the cart. Another offered to clean them. We went through the same routine on the way home. My husband is the first one to offer a tip for service but we were feeling a bit taken advantage of. Also, you pay a service charge to leave your bag in a storage room at the hotel.

Finally, I feel that $28 for quesadillas in the hotel restaurant is ridiculous. On the plus side, there are alot of options for dining in the area. P.J. Changs is great. Also, the Cheesecake Factory was a treat for us.

My husband and I travel a great deal and have stayed at the best places, this was nice - but not special. Next time we are going back to the Boulders in Carefree. That was special!!

My wife and I just returned from our 10 year anniversary trip at the Scottsdale Fairmont and had a perfect stay. Paid for the Fairmont room, little nicer than their basic room, and we were upgraded to a Casita room upon check-in. Very nice large private room in a patio home type setting. Property is beautiful. Service was excellent. Scottsdale is great for that special occasion trip. Great restaurants in town, Ocean Club, was excellent, but expensive. Tortilla Factory was also very good. Played the TPC Desert course it was in great shape, short course, but nice. The Willow Stream Spa, on site, was very relaxing. We will be back to the Fairmont.

After flying in on a long flight, we rented a car and drove to the hotel,(arriving at 12:00 noon).Explaining that we were tired, the front desk said it would be an hour to get our room fine and offered us free drink coupons which was nice of them.

We went to the concierge and asked what they would recommend. They said we would like the Red Jeep tours in Sedona! She said ask for Cliff! we did and had the best time!!!!! This was a major highlight.

Other than the Jeep tour and touring Sedona, we pretty much stayed in the resort. We were there for two nights and enjoyed the food. We received the $100 food coupons for each night.

The food was very good, not the best. But, we did not care, we just loved the hospitality and the amenities.

If going to Scottsdale/Phoenix, we would sure stay there again.

We stayed at the fairmont princess over the labor day weekend (sept 2-5). I have stayed at many resorts in the past so I was a dissapointed with the room. We booked the regular room, which was really nothing special. I don't think it was super clean, it was really dark and pretty noisy at night. If you have kids, the resort is very very kids friendly. There is a whole pool areas for kids, free breakfast buffet for kids and the movies at night in the pool.

The resort was absolutely packed b/c of labor day weekend and you had to reserve your spot at the pool in the morning or sit in the sun. Also the weather (110 degrees) was unbearable...overall this was an OK experience. If you want a good time at this hotel, don't go over a holiday weekend and stay at the casita, pay more, but I think it will be a totally different experience. I will probably not return to this hotel again.

My husband, eleven year-old son and I spent several relaxing days at the Fairmont Princess during the week of August 20-26. The hotel and property grounds were immaculate. All of the staff were extremely polite and accommodating. The concierge desk was always very helpful in making recommendations for dinner and travel around town. The atmosphere at the hotel was classy, but not stuffy.

We booked a deluxe room. There was plenty of room for the three of us. The room itself was very comfortable and the bathroom area was very roomy with double sinks, a stall shower, separate tub and separate bathroom area.

The pools on the resort were terrific. We spent much of our time by the sport pool which had a basketball hoop and volleyball net. We practically had the entire pool to ourselves one morning since many of the guests were attending conferences at the hotel. The slide pool was also alot of fun, but the water didn't seem as clean as at the other pools. There is also a more quiet 'adult' pool which was also great.

We also enjoyed the small fishing pond area where we were able to 'fish' for very small fish. The experience was alot of fun for the family.

We ate at the Hacienda one evening and the food was very good, but not outstanding. A couple of times we had breakfast at the Bistro -- the food was decent, but very overpriced for breakfast. If you have a car, it's worth it to go off the property and have a good breakfast for half the price.

The Willow Stream spa was absolutely beautiful. I had a hot stone massage which was thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable!! The whirlpool area was also fabulous.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fairmont Princess. I'm not sure if it would be worth the high season rates of $450-500 per night, but their off-season room rates were extremely reasonable ($170-240 per night) for the type and quality of hotel (4-5 star). I highly recommend this hotel if you want to relax, enjoy the pool and play golf. It is also a very family-friendly hotel.

We were at the Princess August 13th to the 20th and loved every minute of it. This was our 12th visit to the princess. Everyone is very friendly and very nice. Grounds are well kept and neat. The kids club is great for the grandchildren and they love it. The food is out of this world. We have stayed in just about every type of room they offer and they are all first class.

A very pleasant and well-run resort that should meet the demands of most vacationers.

The deluxe corner room was large and comfortable with an oversized bathroom, shower and walk-in closet. Plenty of towels were always present, although they do need some fabric softener as was mentioned previously. The tap water also never seemed to get cold - I guess a result of being in the desert in August. The $7 bottle water on the bar counter seemed tempting, but along with other items, a bit too pricey. Excellent maid service and evening turn down service, although room was not cleaned until very late afternoon one day. Well lit parking lot for those choosing to save a few dollars each day. Did not sample any restaurants or spa services. Very good workout area which should satisfy most travelers.

The grounds are well-maintained and full of vegetation and sweet smelling flowers. Finding your room on check-in day can be a chore however, as the buildings tend to blend together and are not well marked. This may be compounded though by attempting to search in 110 degree heat dragging luggage. Probably best to use a porter.

Pools were nice, with a smaller pool with lap lanes and larger pool near front. The large pool included drink service and a covered bar area, but the pool tile at the waterline was in need of repair and seemed to standout in the otherwise well-maintained area.

Certainly a nice resort for families and others who will find friendly staff and a somewhat laid back atmosphere.
