Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch
Ranked #11 of 75 Hotels in Scottsdale
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 11, 2014

I was at this Resort for a corporate meeting. This place was very clean and everything was first rate from the food and drink to the entertainment in the evening. The pool area was huge and also very appealing and clean. I enjoyed the personal touch of having your name on the television welcoming you to the property. I would definitely stay there again even outside of business.

This is what you would expect from a Hyatt Regency, but I wasn't overly impressed. I was expecting an older hotel, that was fine because the lobby area is very nice and the hotel had a nice layout. This hotel is situated in a business park type setting, not by itself. I will say the staff was very friendly, helpful, and welcoming - so that is a big plus. We were given an upgraded view when we checked in, and that was greatly appreciated. The rooms are small and a family of four would be a really tight squeeze - we stayed four nights and our family of 3 was pretty cramped. Housekeeping was great - no complaints. The pools are obviously the draw and kids will be entertained for days. Poolside food was very reasonable - $6 kids meals/ $10-14 for adults - and was very tasty. My husband and I were very disappointed that there were no chair cushions (unlike the adult pool) and when we asked about that we were told "sorry, but those are only for the adult pool"......What???? The pool furniture was so uncomfortable! Apparently if you travel with kids you should be happy with just a towel. Our daughter loved the pools though and again the service was very good. Thank you Austin, Ryan, and Victoria! It would be nice though if the pool area had more umbrellas - when the hotel was very busy on July 4th the supply seemed to run out. I actually had one of the pool staff try and take an umbrella we were using because another guest told him our daughter wasn't utilizing her lounger enough..... Really???? And keep in mind that you can ask for a pitcher of water to keep at your lounger (important in 100+ degrees), but it wasn't offered automatically. We also finally asked for our drink table to be cleaned after realizing they aren't cleaned on a regular basis (they were pretty gross) and we had to track down our own cups for the "hydration station" multiple times- these are small things I know, but still annoying. The hotel did have good food on the lobby menu and we also liked the live music. If you want to go out for dinner try The Mission downtown - fabulous meal and atmosphere! Try the Canyon Market for breakfast foods and coffee ($25 total or so for 3 people, for breakfast on the go).So, basically this Hyatt is a solid 4 star - perfect for families and great room rates for summer - but it honestly gave me the "been there done that" feeling. Don't get me wrong, we enjoy the Hyatt brand, so if you set your expectations right you will have a reasonably priced, enjoyable getaway.

This is the Scottsdale Resort to visit if you want to spend your day at the pool with kids! The sand beach occupied most of my children's interest, but they enjoyed the sports and pool activities offer on the July 4th holiday too. The service Team was terrific, even during a busy holiday weekend. Team Members desiring of mention include Christina and Ryan for providing poolside food and beverage service. Special thanks to Madison, Pool Server, for assisting and following up to ensure we were happy even though she was not our server and business levels had her very busy with other guests. I have stayed at every major Scottsdale hotel/resort, and this Hyatt has the right combination from ease of parking/check-in, short walk to guestrooms (caution to those who get "turned around" easily), several dining options on-site and nearby, plus consistent service throughout the Service Team, plus the best family pool in Arizona. We will be back!!!

We stayed at the Hyatt over 4th of July weekend. We used to live in Phoenix and try to make it back every year. We were impressed with the service at the Hyatt. We accidentally booked a room with two double beds (we thought it was two queens), and they quickly changed our room to a kind and comped our roll away bed for our small kids.

The pool area was very nice albeit very crowded on the holiday weekend. The hotel had a number of different events planned at the pool for the weekend (watermelon eating contests, water balloon tosses, crafts, etc) as well as fireworks. Our kids loved all of them. The beach area was really fun for the little kids and it was nice that there was a bench all the way around the pool. The slide was fast and really fun.

Our daughter's spend an afternoon in Camp Hyatt which was terrific. They had so much fun doing crafts, feeding the ducks and fish, running through sprinklers that they begged to go back the next day (they're 4 and 3 - maybe the perfect age for that sort of thing?). While they were in Camp Hyatt, we enjoyed a few hours at The Grotto - the adult pool which was WAY less crowded and much more relaxing. Sue, part of the wait staff, was so kind and helpful. She remembered meeting us the day before and when she realized we were enjoying a few kid free hours, she surprised us with complimentary drinks. :)

Everything was expensive (the alcohol/restaurants/etc) but the convenience was nice. We were impressed with the food. We would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the lake instead of the parking lot! Also, the end rooms have extra space...

This hotel is very pretty and very kid friendly. We only stayed here for one night but did enjoy our short time here. The pools are the big draw here for young and old. The water slide will make children squeal with delight as they plunge 30 feet down the spiral. There is also a wonderful adult pool area which looks very inviting for those who prefer the quiet without children. The rooms were nice, but I found them oddly configured. I didn't really care for the shower and toilet in a separate area from the sink area and vanity. My family and I are often on different time schedules, so it's nice to have a full bathroom area with a door for those of us who get up earlier than the others and like to shower and get ready. (hard to do when the shower and the sink and mirrors are separate.) The food was pretty good. Not many choices this time of year. Seemed like only one restaurant was open. Breakfast was good. Wish there was a buffet option...kids love that. Also loved the fajitas...at dinner...best we've had in a long time.

The view at the top of the driveway is stunning. Modern, Southwest hotel architecture at it's best. Wide open and inviting entrance, lushly landscaped drive and welcoming bell folk. You know that you have arrived someplace familiar yet special. The ample grounds are also lush and inviting. This trip was with older kids. The pool is expansive with a great three story slide. Lots of little corners to have family time or private time. I even found enough room for my swim work-out in the morning.

The rooms are adequate but not overly generous. We slept four in a double room and brought in a surprisingly comfortable roll-a-way for the oldest. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Value is reasonable given the quality of the property.

Room Tip: Some of the lower end rooms have a view of the cactus court on the roof of an adjoining service buil...

We stayed here for four nights and loved pretty much everything about it. The pool area is large and split into kids and adults which meant that it was never too crowded even on busy days.

The room was large and clean with a very large balcony/patio area.

Best of all though were the staff who were always helpful and pleasant no matter what the query.

The bar area is good too and the hotel is within walking distance of a couple of other restaurants.

We also made use of the hotel shuttle to take a trip down to the fashion Square Mall.
