“Disappointing”
Reviewed August 14, 2008

My husband and I spent several days at this hotel and sadly we were a bit disappointed.

We had booked club rooms but when we arrived we were told they were not available (why didn't they mention this in the emails sent to us in the days before we departed?). We were put in another room which wasn't as good and we were not offered a reduction in price. The first time I've ever been downgraded!!! We paid over $6000 for the hotel so to say we were disappointed is an understatement!

The room we were given was at best average. We had requested a smoking room and we were put in a non smoking room! We were then told we could smoke on the balcony but weren't given an ashtray!

The room needed decorating: there was a large section cut out of the carpet and it had been badly patched. The wallpaper too had been patched rather poorly. The bed was very comfortable and there was a good armchair and table and chairs in the room.
Good sized balcony with no privacy at all. We could see into the neighbouring room and they could see straight into ours. We could also go onto their balcony as the lattice fence separating the rooms was missing a section.
We had requested a room with a view as this was a "special" holiday. We got a room with a view of the tree tops and only the tree tops!!
The bathroom had also seen better days. The wallpaper was peeling some of the bathroom fittings were worn and somewhat tatty. Shower was powerful. Towels ok but bathrobes were washed out and ancient and far too small.
Hairdryer was almost impossible to use as it had a 50cm cable. When plugged in the user had to bend in half to dry hair as the dryer would not reach any further. I asked for a replacement and was given another with a 50cm cable. If I had been a dwarf this would have worked fine!

The hotel gave us coupons for a free breakfast as that was included with the club rooms which we hadn't been given. Unfortunately not all the restaurant staff knew how to use the coupons. Some gave us a free breakfast, some gave us a partly free breakfast and charged us a reduced rate. Some restricted what we could choose to eat whilst others let us select whatever we wanted. It did seem somewhat strange that we had to pay sales tax on a free breakfast!

Dinner was good and we enjoyed both restaurants. We also walked to the restaurants at the end of the road which were very good value.

Sadly we didn't get the free evening canapes and drinks which were included in the price of a club room.

There are a number of pools (some little more than plunge pools) on the resort and these were very nice. Plenty of sun loungers. Unfortunately there seems to be problems with concrete degradation and some areas are being repaired whilst others need repairing. In an area where most buildings are painted soft pinks and sand colours to match the desert it was a shame that the bare grey concrete had been left unpainted. It gave some areas all the charm of an old soviet nuclear bunker.

The gardens were attractive and well maintained and there are lots of lovely birds. Unfortunately the birds do poop on the seats outside and inside as they fly through the lounge area. Check your seat before you sit down, we saw lots of people with stained clothing.

Staff pleasant and friendly.

All in all a disappointing and very expensive stay. I have travelled extensively and usually if a hotel has to move you from the room which you have booked they upgrade you not downgrade you. They usually compensate the guest with a complimentary bottle of wine or champagne. Hyatt do things differently!

We stayed here for 4 nights in May. We enjoyed our stay but you can see why they are doing renos in the hotel rooms. Our hotel staff were very helpful and we enjoyed the outdoor ambiance, pools and location.

This is such a great place for a pool side family getaway that we've gone twice. We're from California so it's not too far to go for us. The pools are not only pretty they are great fun for children and even the wee ones will enjoy stepping in from the sandy section. There is a great slide ( which adults will enjoy also : ) ) and nice cabanas with comfy seating all along the sides of most pools to just read a book and keep ordering those iced teas while the kids frolic. The restaurants are varied with very helpful staff and the outdoor areas are decorated with large beautiful natural hunks of quartz and other stones. There is a very lovely Native American show that is put on outdoors that maintains its dignity and is not too touristy or disrespectful to the Native community. On some evenings, the kids can grab a floatie and watch a film from the water. The rooms are large as at all Hyatt resorts and we heartily recommend the Gainey Ranch for pool side family getaways!

What a joke! This resort is not worth the money. The guestrooms are extremely small (not even close to the 400 sq ft advertised) and very dull. They offer little to no ammenities. The ammenities that are offered (mini-bar) cost a fortune. $5.50 for a bottle of water! A cup of coffee was $6.00. The complimentary internet they boast on their web-site actually cost $9.99/ day. There is a lot of false advertising with this hotel. They neglected to tell us at the time of reservation that their elevator was down for the next 7 weeks or that they were conducting much needed renovations. This was very inconvienent to say the least. Especially having a handicapped child in tow. The fire alarm sounded EVERY morning at exactly 9:40 AM. It was obnoxious, ear piercing and extremely disturbing to my young children. The staff were extremely rude and unhospitable. Room service was good, food hot with a quick delivery time although a bit pricy (as everything at this motel). The pool was very impressive in size however was extremely filthy. In addition to all of the bugs, flowers and leaves there was trash (used plastic dishes), food and other unmentionables floating around. In the 5 days we were there, the pool was never cleaned once. This hotel is not worth the money they charge what so ever. We were extremely dissappointed and will never go back. Spend your money else where folks and save yourselves from a disaster vacation and the extreme disappointment that will surely surface shortly after you check in. This is not a 4.5 star resort. This is an underaverage hotel charging exorbanent prices while boasting they are a high class resort.

WOW ...

Ten pools, can I say more !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The water slide was super fun, they actually have a "beach" with sand, numerous hot tubs and a beautiful and well welcomed adults only pool !!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus mister to keep you cool if you would like to sun yourself. by the pool. Many of opportunities to have drinks by the pool as well !! Th pools over looked the beautiful golf course. . I am not a golfer but the golf course looked amazing, and the rabbits hopping around the course where super cute !!! For later entertainment they have a wonderful bar with live music at night.

This resort offered excellent customer service, it actually seemed like everyone enjoyed working here, and that seems to be extremely rare lately !! !

The Frank Lloyd Wright architecture of the resort was very nice, open and different !! Great location, within walking distance of numerous restaurants and bars. We did not eat at the resort, but everything we saw looked wonderful. They are in the process of updating this resort then it is going to be even more impressive

Our room was nice, they are still updating, but we had our own little patio and the bed and linens where amazing, we slept too long one morning !!

The fitness center is very nice, clean, and well equipped, new bikes, treadmills, weight machines, and free weights. All equipped with their own tv's plus if you forget your earphones, they supply them for you !! The spa seemed very nice but way over priced.

We had an excellent stay here and may actually go back next month !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Liked — Pools, customer service, very nice accomidations !!
  • Disliked — Spa overpriced !!

Wonderful hotel. Helpful and friendly service. Great fitness center with a wide selection of new machines. We enjoyed the "water playground" that has about 10 pools, but be aware that with all of these amenities comes a $15 resort fee they don't tell you about until you see the bill. Our only negatives: being woken up by jackhammers and accidental fire alarms being tripped multiple times do to the renovation. Overall; a great stay and I'm sure once the renovation is complete (Oct 08) it will even be better.

A beautiful hotel which we greatly enjoyed on our first two-day stay. A later, one night, stay was a disaster, however, since we had a room above the lobby where live entertainment takes place until 2 00 am - so no sleep for us as we had to rise early to get a 6 00 am flight from Phoenix. We complained to the young man who checked us out - his response was total silence - not even a basic apology!
