“Relaxing Surprise”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

This resort has a fun, relaxed atmosphere that is truly an oasis in the desert. Unlike other well known resorts in the area that are pretentious filled with uptight conference attendees you feel relaxed with friendly employees and a classy but casual surrounding. Rooms are spacious but not ornate, We had a spacious patio overlooking the pool area and golf course which provided privacy. The complex is not so large that you have to walk forever to get anywhere. Even the self park area is close to the main entry. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants but we did enjoy the coffe shop with delicious breakfast and lunch offerings as well as Starbucks coffee. Can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: Ask for mountain view for a minimal upcharge.

This was our second trip to the Hyatt at Gainey Ranch. The hotel is lovely, the service excellent, the restaurants good, and the rooms a good value. We love the numerous palm trees, as well as the many pools. The location is also good, as we could drive to Old Town in about 15 minutes. The bathrooms are updated and there are many small amenities that are appreciated, such as built-in night lights and a daily newspaper delivered to your room. We have really enjoyed both of our stays and know we will return again.

Loved it! Beautiful complex, yet not too big. Room was largewith a nice bathroom and shower, which is important to me. Small balcony which would be perfect for a morning cup of java or reading a book. We were at the beginning of a wing and very little hallway noise. Didn't hear neighbors, if there were any, at all.

Pools were great. Had multiple pools and some were designated as adult only, great for relaxing for a Couple Getaway. Servers at pool were very attentive and always there to provide a new refreshment.

Friendly and sincere staff.

Restaurants were ok. Over-priced and selection was somewhat limited in the Italian restaurant. The quality did not equate to the price which was unfortunate. People we met echoed the same.

We love Scottsdale and will definitely return to this Hyatt.

We almost missed this place. 3 days before we arrived, all the pools were closed except for the adult pool. We thought about changing hotels, but learned they were to open just as we were about to switch hotels. Had it not been for the honesty of Tim at the front desk, we would have ended up elsewhere. A helpful response from the poster pure gravy also helped in remaining at the Hyatt. We got a lot of insight for while we were there.
Pretty much everything you read in the posts below are true. Whether they are good or bad all depends on your point of view.

Live music is played in the lobby until 10:30 or so. We enjoyed it, and usually ended our evenings sitting outside in the open part of the lobby, having drinks and spending time with our group.
It was a great, relaxing way to end the day/ night. My only complaint was that the price of drinks were inconsistent when getting a drink table side and walking up to the bar. In 5 nights, we found the same cocktails to have different prices.., on the same nights.., just depending on who you got them from!

The adult pool was fantastic! There were plenty of options for pools, but we never left the adult one. We spent almost all day, every day, inside it. Kudos to Matt and Isaac for putting up with us, because we were a pretty lively group. But again, for those who have left reviews saying that part gets too loud or obnoxious, there are 9 other pool areas to choose from.
The Adult pool had a bar you could swim up to, but there were steps you had to use (2) to get inside it. Depending who your server was, you could just swim up to steps and ask them to hand you your drink.
They always had ESPN on 3 different t.v.'s, so you were always up to speed on your favorite teams, which was nice on Saturday for college football!
Just be prepared for high prices when ordering food and drinks poolside. Nothing was cheap. But, it was all good. I recommend the Mojitos.

When it came to the room, we ended up with a King bed overlooking the lake on the side of the hotel. Very quiet, but very nice.
Beds were comfortable, pillows were nice. Bathroom shower was awesome. Water dropping from the top, as well as a handheld spraying at you.
Also, when we arrived in our room on the second day, a bottle of champagne and chocolates were left for us to help celebrate my birthday. A very nice touch.
Only valid complaint I had with the room was that there was no vent in the bathroom. Really? Wouldn't that be code?
Quite possibly the only legitimate thing that could be a true negative to this property.

Restaurants were good. We really enjoyed the Italian place. Our waiter, Jay, was fantastic. Everyone had something different, and we all tasted what each other had. All of it would be worth ordering. Afterward, we took the gondola ride. A nice way to end the evening.
Also, the Canyon market served Starbucks coffee, and gave free refills throughout the day as long as you saved your cup!

All in all, I would highly recommend this place. I would also go back in a heartbeat!
Every time you saw an employee, they said, "Hello", or "Good morning".
You can make it a couples getaway, an excursion with friends, or a great family vacation. Any of these would work here.
Our friends used the 360 adventures and went on dune buggy ride on a nearby reservation. They raved about it, and the pictures of wild mustangs and the views they had were amazing.

I would describe this place as a 5 star resort that feels like something you would find in the resort areas of Mexico. And I mean that in the most complimentary way possible.
And actually, this is the second trip our group has taken. The first being to Playa del Carmen. We were trying to find something with that same "feel", but here in the states.
We all think we got it, and then some.

It is a 10 minute drive into old town Scottsdale. You can use this place as your home base, or never leave. Whatever you are planning, do not hesitate to stay here.

Scottsdale has many wonderful resorts, but this is one of the best. The service is flawless, every employee is so incredibly nice and helpful, with each person looking to make your experience great. I have been going there since I was a young kid and it is still by far one of my favorite resorts around the country. The grounds are beautiful and kept up. I highly recommend enjoying a drink outside in the evening, if you have some spare time to relax and enjoy the great AZ weather.

I know there are many over the top resorts in and around the Scottsdale area, but the Hyatt Gainey Ranch is a classic and my favorite Resort in Scottsdale. Land, easy airport to navigate have the Gainey Ranch pick you up in one of their vans, or rent a car if you plan to explore the area and all its great activities. But my favorite relaxing time is to check in up grade to a suite last minute un pack my one small carry on because all you need are two bathing trunks, a pair or two of Khakis, simple shoes and flip flops... Now that your tidy whities are put away get out of that room and head to the pool, all you need to do accomplish now is pick a lounge chair and lather your self up with a min SPF 30 and take a deep breath and relax. Turn on your Kindle or ipad read or grab a HG Mag. After you've had a few adult from the very friendly pool boy/girl time to take a dip and find the swim up bar, and yes more adult beverages and meet and greet other guests, never have I not met friendly interesting people. Now time for a shower and pull those Khaki out and head down to the fire pit area off the lobby bar over looking the pool and golf course. Yes and other adult beverage or coffee, and relax to soft music and gear up for dinner, any one of the restaurants will amaze you!

There is so much more to this resort, my first trip was in the mid 90's and it always felt like a second home away from home, as Im writing this I think it's time for a long Gainey Ranch weekend might not be to far off for me!! safe travel and enjoy. B

Service was good all around, but not great. Room was spacious, but lacked furniture. One BIG problem is those Goose Feather Pillows. I still don't understand why quality hotels put those in your bed. I asked for foam pillows and they were sent to my room, but they were not thick at all. And the cleaning lady decided to take them away after the first night without even asking about it.

I did found some hair on the linen.

Hotel is quite spread, so expect to walk a bit.

If you are golfing, Club House is close by. Walkable but there are carts that will take you there.

Overall good, but not great.

Room Tip: Walk from the elevators to the rooms might be a bit long. If that is a problem for you, ask for a ro...
