“A 'Must Visit" in Scottsdale”

Didn't really know what to expect at Sumo Maya, but it was fantastic! We were told ahead of time to let our server make suggestions, as its more of a tasting menu, but what a menu it is! We tried everything from the sushi to the tacos, wine and dessert. Excellent from start to finish. Great service, fun atmosphere, brilliant design. Our new fav!

“Interesting combination”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2014

When I first heard about a Mexican Asian fusion restaurant, I was skeptical of how well it could be done in a city in the desert. Quite frankly, the food is good and the dishes seem to take some of the best parts of both cuisines. The food is done in tapas style, so they're portioned small and come out of the kitchen as they are ready. The service is excellent. The servers are attentive and immediately responsive. Sitting at the sushi bar, I had not only a server, but also the sushi chefs and the floor manager checking up on me. I spent about $40 by myself for dinner, which included no alcoholic beverages, so the price is a little on the high side, but there is a great atmosphere, energy and service to make up for that.

“Who'd a thunk it?”

Fusion of Mexican and Asian? That's what these guys do! And it was great! Very trendy, hip, LOUD restaurant. Tried many small dishes to get a feel for what they do. We really liked the guacamole with pomegranate and mango, rock shrimp, mushroom tacos, suzuki roll, chile noodles with crab, and chicken mole. Were not crazy about the chicken tacos (chicken was very dry) nor the chicken chimcharron appetizer, which was tasteless. Also shared their special dessert of the night, which was a blackberry bread pudding; it was delicious! Would definitely go back and try some other things.

“Fantastic experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014

This is my new favorite restaurant. I just wish they had a location near my home. We started with the charred edamame.....fantastic. I could have made a meal out of that. We also loved the guacamole and chili garlic noodles with crab. items are meant to be shared. Our server did a wonderful job of describing options. The decor was fun, a bit loud, but with the quality of food and service it can be overlooked.
