“W - Scottsdale”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2013

Upon our landing in Phoenix, we went to our lovely Scottsdale hotel. The decor is fun yet comfortable and the service quality high. I brought my parents here to start their 50th wedding anniversary celebration and was a little concerned about the noise the hotel communicated as likely on weekends. I requested quiet rooms and we got them. We slept well and thoroughly enjoyed our brief stay. I would like to go back with fun friends and enjoy more of the W sometime!

A nice mall is within easy walking distance to the hotel, which provided us with a nice excursion.

Room Tip: I understand a quiet room is a special request. I requested and received quiet rooms.

I recently attended a work conference at the W in Scottsdale. I have never stayed at a W before and was pleasantly surprised! High end style with lots of ambiance, very contemporary room style and furnishings, near heavenly bed, and comfortable, quiet stay despite the hotel being at capacity. The room has a king size shower but no bathtub. The conference rooms were comfortably functional and the food/drinks served for breakfast, lunch and snacks was better than usual hotel fare. Service was excellent. The bar and pool area was spacious, comfortable and very beautiful! The Sushi restaurant served a great meal! With a view Camelback Mountain, the hotel is within a few blocks of a packed restaurant and shopping area that we enjoyed on several evenings.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room high floor.

Hello,

Thank you for the compliments. We are in the perfect location for business travelers who want a little something more. Located in the Entertainment District of Old Town Scottsdale, there are many dining, shopping and nightlife outlets to explore.

Our meeting talent members are excellent at ensuring every aspect of your meeting goes smoothly. The team is very detail oriented and glad to make any accommodation necessary. Sushi Roku is one of the premiere dining locations in the city. They’re sushi is unparalleled by any other restaurant in the area.

We look forward to seeing you back soon.

All the best,
Alexa W.

Stayed one night at the W to attend a conference that was held at the hotel. The room was a decent size, comfortable bed, huge shower. The large windows let in lots of light though at night the bathroom light was not so bright. The room was clean though the carpet in the hallways looked like it needed a good cleaning.

The meeting facilities worked well. We had dinner in their pool area which was a nice environment to enjoy the beautiful Scottsdale weather. The food was well prepared and service was excellent. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

Hello,

I am glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and found our rooms comfortable. Our meeting space is both functional and well-designed. Our meeting planners are excellent at ensuring that every detail is taken care of so that your event may run as smoothly as possible. WET is a great space for nearly any event, especially this time of year. The weather is perfect.

I hope we can welcome you back soon.

All the best,
Alexa W.

While the hotel itself is a good location and the bed comfortable, my experience here was terrible. It started by getting a room that was not cleaned fully and obviously not reviewed by a manager. Tape all over ceiling and maybe a cola sprayed on bathroom wall seemed as a party was in there before me. The toilet was clogged too. In telling the front desk, they said they would call back in five, they never called. Going to the front desk, the staff was cocky & said well " who did u talk to?" I did not know since they answer phone with "whatever-whenever" and not a name. I asked to a manager, which I never got to speak to in two days. They chose to move me, to find my next room had a phone not working properly. A message was left but I couldn't get since system was broke. Engineering was stumped and camped out in my room for a while. In the end, I got a hand written note with a mini bottle of cheap wine and a small bowl of nuts. To me, an insult. I gave back their wine and nuts when leaving, knowing I will not go back, their is better choices in the area.

I assure you your experience is not standard practice for our hotel. We take great care to ensure our guestrooms are spotless and everything is in perfect working condition before check-in. Each room is checked by a manager and noted for its condition. Our Welcome talent is usually complimented for their friendly demeanor and willingness to go above and beyond for each guest.

Our General Manager, Ren Hirose, would like to discuss your stay with us. Please reach out to him at gmren.hirose@whotels.com.

All the best,
Alexa W.

We booked the W knowing its reputation and location in the Entertainment areas of Scottsdale but we were surprised by the Sound Wave block party that was going on the same weekend. We joined in and had a good time but if you're looking for a quiet getaway, stay away. The clientele was young and beautiful and reminded me of Las Vegas but on a much smaller scale. There was a lot of noise in the halls from groups coming and going but it didn't bother us when our door was closed.

The location is good and close to some shopping and excellent restaurants. The hotel is done in modern decor but in an older "boutique" style. Cool, cold, sleek with lots of hard surfaces and neon lighting. Its missing that luxe style that's becoming trendy at the other modern hotels. The room is nicely decorated and much more inviting than the lobby. Very comfortable beds. Great toiletries from Bliss.

Its annoying that you have to pay for Wifi in your room. Why don't they just hide that in the room rate? Even if the rates are higher, customers would feel better if its "free"

Very nice stay, I would return.

W was successful in bringing its brand all the way to Phoenix. Nothing to envy to the South Beach parties. Granted, we got there on the day the Sound Wave festival was featuring Tiesto... The hotel pool deck easily competed with the nearby festivities.
Back to the rooms. All are great and full of the W ingenious amenities. If you can afford it, upgrade to a studio suite as this will double your room size. The bathrooms are fun with tainted glass shower cabins.
Food is a hit with Sushi Roku where you are encouraged to try Chef Miles daily suggestions. Additional to the Pool Deck, the lobby bar has a live band on Saturdays.
So does this mean the hotel is not for corporate use ? Just stay away from the weekends and you can have a quiet but dynamic environment for your meeting, One of the conference rooms is at the pool level (Close the curtains to focus)
Service is trendy. Beautiful people with ear pieces everywhere. But do not be fooled, When it gets to serving you in the Food and Beverage outlet, your waiter will be serious and exceptionnaly precise in his recommendation. Ours took all the needed time to explain the menu and service was very fast, despite the restaurant being full.
Access is very easy from the airport, under 30 mns

This is definitely a typical W, with a sort of "Old Town Scottsdale" flair. W's tend to cater to the higher-end clientele and this one is no different. It's in a nice location, walking distance to may of the restaurants in Old Town and is also close to the Arizona Canal Trail (running/biking). Despite what their website says, they don't have self park (unless they just expect you to find something nearby on the street) they only do valet. The downstairs will have a nightclub feel every evening, and it is done very tastefully. Overall, it is a very nice, trendy hotel, but be prepared to pay for any amenities and it might not be the best place for intense business travelers. If you are in town for a good time, this is an excellent choice.

Thanks for the feedback, Emily. Being in the Entertainment District of Old Town, we definitely have a unique style about us that many enjoy. I am glad to see you are one of them. The Living Room is a great spot to enjoy on the evenings with live music from both local and national recording artists and DJ sets. We also have a few fashion events from time to time.

I hope to see you again soon.

Best,
Alexa
