Went with three buddies on a golf trip and decided to stay here instead of the adjacent Summerfield Suites (Marriott). The rented condo was OK, was nice to have 4 beds and 2 baths under one roof. The furniture and beds were spartan but good enough for our 5 night stay. However, our trip was soiled by poor communication and follow-up with the property manager.
We rented two cars in the event that not everyone would want to play 36 holes each day and some of the party wanted to return early. Our second day there was scheduled for a full day at Troon North, a spectacular golf club north of Scottsdale. After flying in on a Tuesday and squeezing 18 holes in at Greyhawk (another top notch golf club) we returned to the condo after dinner to find ONE parking pass. Before flying to PHX, we informed the manager-owner that we would need two passes. Our instructions were to park under the designated and numbered covered parking and leave the pass on the dash. For one car, we did just that and parked the second car away from the curb in an unmarked spot. As the spot was not marked or reserved we decided to ask again for a second pass tomorrow instead of trying to track down the operator at 9 pm.
As you can follow, we arose the next morning and was leaving @ 6:30 AM for our 8 AM tee time to see the second car was missing! After some frantic calls to management we were instructed to call the towing company used by the property and sure enough the car was there. "There" was about a 30 minute drive in the opposite direction of Troon North. The golf course graciously permitted a last second rescheduling for later in the day, allowing us to retrieve the car. The towing fee was $75, cash only.
After getting the car and clubs back we were able to get 1/2 day of golf in. As Troon is a high end course allowing our pre-paid "replay" our group was out the opportunity for more golf due to lack of time. We did contact the management company with the complaint that the lack of a second parking pass cost us $75 cash, time spent to retrieve the car, and less golf than planned. They did offer an apology but implied we were at fault for not calling him late the previous night. To settle the "debt" he offered to bring over $40, a bottle of wine and some starbucks coffee!!
In our follow-up to explain that this would not cover our financial AND TIME costs, the reply was that was the final deal and we should take our business elsewhere in the future!
Needless to say, the four of us certainly WILL take our business elsewhere and would encourage others to do the same. In researching The Stay I see they have properties around the country, often in areas known for golf trips. The management of the Scottsdale location will prohibit our group from ever again renting one of their properties.
One other minor gripe is that the gate code we were given never worked; we waited each time for another resident to arrive and punch in the correct code.
(PS-- If golfing, also try the Raven at Verrado; worth the 45 minute drive west.)
