We spent a few weeknights at the Valley Ho and had a wonderful time. The service was attentive and gracious, the rooms were spotless and roomy, and the bathroom was wonderful. The atmosphere was very retro and fun (1950s Howard Johnson in Florida came to mind, but in a good way). The spa is small, but I had it all to myself on a Thursday morning. The fitness room and machines are very nice, new, and high quality (individual tvs for each treadmill/cycle/elliptical). The yoga class was very good, though the room was small (then again, the class was small, too). I had a massage and a facial. The facial was fantastic, but I didn't care for the masseuse (it was the first massage where I was creeped out by the masseuse and left uncomfortable). My great experience with the aesthetician during the facial, Donna, made up for it. ZuZu's was very good, though probably overpriced (not unexpected for a hotel restaurant). The location is fantastic - convenience to downtown Scottsdale can't be beat. Walk or take the free Trolley around town to enjoy the art galleries and shops.
One note to potential visitors - there is a condo being developed on the adjacent property. Rooms facing that direction (11- and 12- series) will get construction noise, which starts early in hot AZ. We could not hear the noise anywhere else on the property except in our room. I'm confident that we would have been relocated had we complained, but being city-dwellers we weren't terribly bothered and didn't mention it. However, if you are looking for quiet and plan on spending quiet time in your room during the day, request a room location away from the adjacent lot / condo construction / Main Street.
Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return to the Valley Ho. The rooms and service were outstanding. For people who like to be close to art galleries and restaurants, and enjoy the retro / 1950s atmosphere, this is definitely the place to stay.
