“Fun stay at the Valley Ho”
Reviewed July 16, 2007

We spent a few weeknights at the Valley Ho and had a wonderful time. The service was attentive and gracious, the rooms were spotless and roomy, and the bathroom was wonderful. The atmosphere was very retro and fun (1950s Howard Johnson in Florida came to mind, but in a good way). The spa is small, but I had it all to myself on a Thursday morning. The fitness room and machines are very nice, new, and high quality (individual tvs for each treadmill/cycle/elliptical). The yoga class was very good, though the room was small (then again, the class was small, too). I had a massage and a facial. The facial was fantastic, but I didn't care for the masseuse (it was the first massage where I was creeped out by the masseuse and left uncomfortable). My great experience with the aesthetician during the facial, Donna, made up for it. ZuZu's was very good, though probably overpriced (not unexpected for a hotel restaurant). The location is fantastic - convenience to downtown Scottsdale can't be beat. Walk or take the free Trolley around town to enjoy the art galleries and shops.
One note to potential visitors - there is a condo being developed on the adjacent property. Rooms facing that direction (11- and 12- series) will get construction noise, which starts early in hot AZ. We could not hear the noise anywhere else on the property except in our room. I'm confident that we would have been relocated had we complained, but being city-dwellers we weren't terribly bothered and didn't mention it. However, if you are looking for quiet and plan on spending quiet time in your room during the day, request a room location away from the adjacent lot / condo construction / Main Street.
Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely return to the Valley Ho. The rooms and service were outstanding. For people who like to be close to art galleries and restaurants, and enjoy the retro / 1950s atmosphere, this is definitely the place to stay.

We booked a Terrace Suite for a long weekend prior to a conference at another hotel the following week. We searched and read the reviews from Trip Advisor and other websites as well as looking at the Valley Ho website. We also emailed someone who raved about the hotel and thier Terrace Suite and she wrote back saying it made their stay!

When we arrived, the vallet attendent was very helpful and got us a bellman for our luggage. Upon check-in the guy behind the desk noticed on the web reservation that it was our 21st anniversary and asked us if we would like an upgrade from our Terrace Suite to a Studio Tower Suite on the 6th floor. We asked if we could see it first and the bellman quickly took us up. From the moment he opend the door and pushed the button to automatically open the black out shades on the floor to ceiling windows, we were in awe! It was fabulous! Full modern kitchen wonderful living area and bedroom seperated by a 42" plazma TV on a cool low credenza and the view of old town Scottsdale, the mountains and the pool below. The terrace was the full lenght of the room. The bathroom had a cool walk in shower with blass tile and a walk in closed not to mention small size washer/dryer and double sinks...all behind a modern frosted glass wall. We went back to the desk check in and accepted the upgrade and thanked him for doing so!

We had a great time at the lobby bar having a bottle of wine, we relaxed by the pool on Sunday morning (9am-1pm) having a few bloody mary's and ate at Trader Vic's and had exceptional food and service.

Check out our pics of our room and view!! They don't truely do the place justice:)

We plan on making Valley Ho our yearly anniversary trip. It is truely a unique experience and a wonderful cool hip place to be!

Our stay was a weekend getaway (Saturday thru Tuesday) that was nothing less than fantastic!!! From the time we walked in, we were greeted with a very hospitable staff projecting the feeling that they were happy to have you as a guest in their hotel. The room was clean, very well thought out, the bathroom was clean and well stocked with toiletries and towels and the bed was very comfortable.

From lunch at Zu Zu's to dinner at Trader Vic's, I just can't say enough. The food was very well portioned and freshly prepared. They offered a very complete menu that had a good variety of choices and was reasonably priced.

The pool was fantastic, clean, very well maintained and managed. Pool service by Tommy, Michelle and other pool attendants was just perfect. They not only had interesting cocktails, but our cups of ice water were always kept full.

Hotel security by Mark and the rest of the staff was noticeable but not overbearing; we definitely had a sense of safety through our short stay.

The only thing we regret was the length of our stay. We actually tried to lengthen our stay, but the AIRLINES would not accommodate us. BUT this I do KNOW, WE WILL STAY THERE (Hotel Valley Ho) AGAIN!!!

Super cool, trendy, retro hotel. Felt like a different era. I thought I was going to see Frank Sinatra around the corner.

Rooms simple & contemporary. Great pool!!! Good food & milkshakes at Zu Zu. Good food & drinks at Trader Vic's.

Good but small spa. Great treatments. Nikki gave a great massage.

Overall great experience! Loved the atmosphere! Would visit again!

Myself and 10 friends JUST returned from the Valley Ho where we stayed over the Memorial Day Weekend. The reason for our stay was to celebrate our friend's upcoming wedding. We had both a Terrace suite and 2 of the doubles. The terrace suite was wonderful! it made our trip, providing ample space to host our nightly pre-dinner gatherings. The terrace/suite accomodated all 11 of us comfortably. The other 2 rooms very extremely stylish and well-appointed. We experienced the pool "incident" that the previous negative post did, but we did not allow it to ruin our trip...when in Rome right?? We of course were not there to "relax" and can probably attribute to some excessive noise ourselves. This is very much a "sceney" hotel, so don't go there expecting total trainquility. overall the grounds and hotel are gorgeous. The spa was nice and we all enjoyed the numerous services we had between us. I would not recommend the yoga class...YAWN, but the workout facilities are spotless and brand new. The restaurant ZuZu was mediocre, but the meals we had off-site we wonderful. I will try and add those experiences as well to my profile. Overall I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a FUN and UBER COOL hotel close to EVERYTHING with a definite "party" scene.

The property is amazing if you like modern architecture - perhaps even if you don't. The rooms are elegant and comfortable in their Euro/midcentury-classic way. Everything and everyone was so nice, it made us just sit and enjoy being there - the very reason one goes to a resort! Our meal at the Cafe ZuZu was not good, but the manager recognized it and did not charge us. Next time I would walk to one of the nearby restaurants for dinner. The hotel location is perfect for enjoying Scottsdale's arts and old town areas.

Just returned from a week-long stay at the Valley Ho, and I’m sorry to say but will not go again. The property is beautiful, stylish, clean, and very comfortable. With the exception of one of the 2 concierge, the waitresses at Cafe ZUZU and the valet parking guys the rest of the staff were terrible. I wondered if they trained the staff to ignore you when you entered the hotel, or not serve you water by the pool in 100 degree heat? Was it me or them, I decided it was them. I’ve been to quite a few nice hotels and I was consistently amazed by how inept the staff was and even more amazed by the crowd who gathered at this place. The Hotel booked “Corporate events” both days on the weekend. Not sure what kind of corporate event it was but by noon the place was crawling with thugs and screeching Britney Spears types. All completely drunk and out of control by mid-afternoon. It was impossible to stay there. So we went to another property to relax. The police were in the lobby when we returned. Forget about trying to sleep. Even on what you hope to be a quiet Sunday afternoon another corporate event comes along, so guests were kicked out of the pool area! So much for paying for “Amenities”. Never were we told about these “events”, both during the booking process, and when it was about to happen. If you are looking for a place to party until you drop into unconsciousness then this is the place to go.
