“Loved the galleries”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

We really enjoyed our day of strolling through the galleries. One complaint would be that they don't open until 11. It would be much nicer to do this during the cooler hours of morning. But the trolley does help with that. :)

“Thursday Night Art Walk”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Every Thursday night the galleries are open from 7 to 9 pm. We try to take advantage of this each time we visit Scottsdale. It's a fun walk up & down Main St. and usually their are a few local artists present in the galleries. There is a wide range of art available from $140 to $90,000. We didn't see many people buying, but there are always interesting pieces to see. On Thursday evenings some of he galleries offer a beverage or snacks. Be sure to walk to the back of the gallery. If you need more than a snack, there are a variety of restaurants along the way. There are also musicians set up on the street corners to entertain you as you walk.

“Galleries galore!”
Reviewed December 1, 2012

This precinct for the arts - and the other streets around it - are great generally for shopping, art browsing, buying, having coffee, eating and walking. There are so many galleries and eateries catering for any taste that one wonders how on earth they all manage to survive financially, especially when - as when we visited - there were not large numbers of people around. Some galleries seem to manage this sparse time for tourists by opening by appointment only. Others presumably rely on selling high-end art at appropriate prices and perhaps a sale here and there keeps them viable. Indian jewelry and crafts are also in abundance, most of very high quality and worth considering as well.

Another attractive feature of the area - apart from the clean streets, landscaping, parking and amenities such as restrooms - is the low-slung nature of the buildings: all are human-scale and not overbearing so one is able to enjoy the Arizona sunshine without being overshadowed.

While much of the artwork is traditional (highly figurative landscapes of the Grand Canyon, for example) another place offers limited edition Picassos and others, everything from sculptures large and small to photographs and graphics. Apart from this, Scottsdale is a very interesting area to experience generally. We also saw one house for sale at $24,500,000 and this is not that rare!

“art walk”
Reviewed November 30, 2012

Every Thursday night galleries are kept open until 9:00pm; we had an opportunity to talk to some of the artists and gallery owners who are very knowledgeable and love to share their expertise. The trolley is a great way to go from gallery to gallery to restaurants and other areas in old Scottsdale
