“Loved this place! ”
Reviewed April 7, 2014 via mobile

It was so laid back and the staff was so friendly! Becky, the general manager, took extra special care of us. It's are first time in Scottsdale and we really needed the lay of the land. She went around and asked all the servers about where to get groceries, wine, and then recommended some other sights and restaurants for us to try. Rhythm and wine is next for us! Guacamole was fresh with just enough kick. The sea if Cortez fajita was amazing, enough for two! We are going to try to go back before we have to leave!

“Mex? No, Senor!”
Reviewed March 30, 2014

We were visiting family in AZ and it seems that this is everybody's favorite meeting spot for dinner and drinks in the area. Sure enough, the place looks super busy, with friendly service and a solicitous hostess. We sat on the patio and admired the world going by, had good conversation going and ordered some drinks. The margarita special was served in tall water glasses, filled to the brim with ice and very light on the tequila - at least to my East Coast palate (I've had drinks in TX, CA and Mexico that put everything else to shame, so...). Chips and salsa appeared quickly and they are nothing special, but okay. Now to the food. It is in one word terrible! This is not Southwestern Mex, Tex or any kind of Mex, it is just awful! The Shrimp Tequila Ceviche had canned Thai mini-shrimp in it, and was watered down a lot. I had no time to finish it since the main dishes came out practically 2 minutes later. On the advice of several family members I ordered the Chile Rellenos and another of us visitors ordered one of Kelli's combos, I think it had the green corn something or other. Okay, those chiles were flat, flat, flat, were swimming in grease, had a thick blanket of cheese on them and had probably spent some time in the microwave and under the lamps. The refried beans looked like they had been diluted with water and whizzed in a blender and the rice was close to inedible. The green corn tamales were nothing to write home about. Only the steak fajitas were somewhat palatable. Our local family appeared to be faithful patrons, so we kept mum, but I doubt that this restaurant would warrant a return visit unless they get their act together in terms of expediting the food properly, not watering down drinks and definitely in the food quality sector.

“Tip from a local, food awful and owner rude!!!”
Reviewed March 9, 2014

We live in Scottsdale, 4 minutes away. Food has gotten terrible, service bad too. USED to go to Jalapeno's all the time. This last time the service was bad, we were spoken abusively by the owner/manager, Laura!
We were a party of 7, all professional people who have dined all over the country and the world, and none of us have EVER been treated like this at any restaurant, at any time, any where. Our reservation was given away to a group of the restaurant owners friends. We were moved to a back room that was having a private birthday party. People were loud and milling around our table and we could barely talk. It took 20 minutes to take out drink orders. After over an hour of waiting my sister-in-law went up to the owner to politely ask where our meals were. Laura, the owner, was standing at the bar. She started yelling at my sister-in-law for asking about our meal in front of other people! She followed my sister-in-law back to our table yelling that they were having a bad night because they were very busy and "we would just have to wait". When I asked for her to leave us alone so we could enjoy our meal (still didn't have any food though) she stalked off and said "whatever!".
From the time we sat down until the time we got our food was 1 1/2 hrs. When it finally came the food was awful. Chili Rellenos burnt and tortilla soup more like leftovers from a bland stew. The street tacos had no flavor and we were only given a two very small saucers for the salsa, for 7 people no less. We will not be back.

“Tip from a local right on!”
Reviewed March 3, 2014

In Scottsdale for a week in late Feb. 2014, craving mexican food. We asked a resident where to go and Jalapeno Inferno was recommended. It was a long drive on North Scottsdale Rd. but the drive was well worth it. The atmosphere was great. The menu had all the standard mexican dishes but they also had their specialities as well. Our party had burritos, both chicken and beef. The beef is not hamburger, it's like a ground up marinated roast. All the meals were excellent, the sides of beans and rice are also great. Your not ordering out of a taco wagon, so the price is a little more but very reasonable. We all left full with leftovers. And don't forget to try their homemade chocolate chip cookie ala-mode. It's probably the best desert I have ever had.
