in old town Scottsdale - they serve tamales Puerco -which is my favorite. outside of California I have difficulty finding restaurants that serve any tamales. of course they have a good selection of other Mexican dishes. we went to the outside patio which I recommend - with small casual tables. they were busy but service was good. good selection of beers the margaritas were good. and the price was reasonable. you do not need to dress up for this place. Just enjoy!

Cozy little place with a varied menu, including a different "take" (at least in my experience) on enchiladas - Frank's special, hand made thick tortillas with choice of meat, topped by pico de gallo salsa and an over easy fried egg, served with whole pinto beans, rice and 2 heated sopapillas & honey for dessert. Plus the usual heated appetizer chips n salsa before the entree. Delish!

There are a ton of great Mexican restaurants in Old Town Scottsdale. You really can't go wrong. But at some point, they start to remind you of the theme song from "Weeds," you know, where all of the houses seem the same.

Frank and Lupes is a change of pace from that. It belongs in some cool hipster neighborhood - an authentic family Mexican restaurant with down-to-earth decor and great food at very reasonable prices. The margaritas rock; try the guac too!

Small authentic Mexican restaurant nestled in old town Scottsdale. We sat on the hidden outdoor patio that offers plenty of shade from the merciless Arizona sun. We arrived around 1130 and the patio was wide open but by noon all the tables were filled with locals and tourists alike.

Prices are very reasonable, around 8-10 bucks each and we enjoyed a couple of great margaritas in the warm Arizona sunshine. The chicken tacos were good, but the standout was the soft chicken tacos covered in poblano cream sauce - unbelievably good. We also liked their chips and salsa.

Service was a bit uneven but we didn't mind, it was great to escape the winter and just bathe in the warmth.

This is my favorite Mexican restaurant. We stumbled upon it 10 years ago, and it was on the top of our list for our second Phoenix visit. The mole was even better than I remembered it. As an added bonus, we walked back near the patio after dinner and had the good fortune to meet the original owners--yes there is a real Frank and Lupe! These exceedingly warm people were proud to tell us the history of the restaurant, home and patio. We met the children who run the restaurant today. I hope the people of Scottsdale realize the gem they're blessed with.
