“Exceeded expectations”

I've been to other butterfly exhibits that were quite nice, but this one far exceeded in numerous ways. Namely,

1) Very informative, interesting and cool 3D movie about monarchs. Stunning and amazing how they migrate.

2) 100s of LIVE butterfly cocoons. If you're lucky you will see one emerge. From here they are moved to the conservancy. Lots of butterflies I've never seen! Very, very cool!

3) The conservancy is SUPERVISED! This means a lot. I've been where the poor butterflies are torn apart by people who want to touch. Here they monitor the crowd. The conservancy also maintains a good amount of humidity. When you exit, you are stopped in a small room with a mirror to check for hitchhiker butterflies. Again, good thought in keeping the insects safe.

4) After you exit the conservancy, you will see the ant farms, then the bees, and then the aquariums. There is one tank of skates that you can lightly touch.

5) Of course there is a gift shop! But this is probably one of the best I've been too after an exhibit. Beautiful writing paper, glassware, t-shirts.

Hopefully, this type of exhibit will encourage people to create habitats in their yards/towns for the butterflies to survive.

Wear something bright if you want the butterflies to land on you. Bring your camera! The conservancy is hot and humid. We were there about 1.5 hours.

“fun and interesting”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

We took the grandkids and they had a great time. After watching the 15 minute 3-D movie, we went into the large atrium and it was great. The butterflies are very active and the kids were excited that they often had butterflies resting on them. I'm glad we saw the movie first, very interesting and well done, the kids loved it, too. The building is beautiful, the entrance nice with different butterfly displays and information. We went early Saturday morning, which was a good move, it was very crowded when we left at noon.

“Amazing Butterflies”
Reviewed October 9, 2013

Took our grandchildren and an out of town visitor to this amazing exhibit of moths and butterflies from around the world. Great 3-D presentation on the Monarch, easy to understand for children and fun for adults too. The large Atrium is full of all kinds of beautiful butterflies that will even land on you for perfect pictures. Truly a wonderland. Also enjoyed the desert insect and honey bee exhibits as well as the fish tanks with the stingrays that you can pet.
An expansion of the aquarium and an Imax theater are in the works, can't wait to see all this in 2014.
If you are a AAA member you will get a discount at the entrance.

“Better than the Average Adventure”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

This attraction, opened in May 2013, does not disappoint!! It begins with a wonderfully informative film about the migration of monarch butterflies. Then you move on to the butterfly hatchery and are usually rewarded by seeing at least one new hatchling. The conservatory is unbelievable. Butterflies dart around freely and often land on their visitors. From there you move on to viewing the bee highway, ant colonies and stingray tank. The grandchildren loved touching the rays. Everything is exceptional including the staff at this facility. It's a bit pricy but well worth the investment. We bought a year-long grandparent pass and paid for it in fewer than 3 trips. We'll be going for free for the rest of the year. That deal is as beautiful as the butterflies are!!

“INTERESTING EXHIBITS AT BUTTERFLY WONDERLAND”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

Was into Phoenix early so went northeast from the airport to Scottsdale and Butterfly Wonderland. This is a fairly new museum/atrium type attraction. The main attraction was butterflies but they also had bee, ant and fish exhibits. The atrium was large and there were thousands of butterflies of many different kinds from around the world. Prior to getting to the atrium you see a 3D movie about the life span of the monarch butterfly and then go into a small room where you can see the many different cocoon styles and emerging butterflies. Total experience was good and highly recommended especially for families with kids.A little pricey... hopefully they might consider lowering the price eventually.
