This is really a review of the picnic. Before we left Ireland, I had signed up for newsletters on AZ and I'm so glad I did because I learned about this festival and we had a lovely day out yesterday. The food stalls offered wonderful freshly cooked, flavoursome foods and the music was fantastic. We were there for the Keltic Cowboys and Young Country - just super. We sat in the shade and enjoyed the whole ambience of this family day out. Kids had a ball playing together (no computers involved!). Parents looked relaxed while their kids found new friends to play with. Teenagers and young singles looked lovely in their sun dresses and trendy gear. This was a super day out for all age groups. The entrance fee of 10 dollars was fine but 3 dollars for a bottle of water was exorbitant. The organisers had kept the water stands to themselves so the price was set at this high price for water, which was a necessary commodity in 90 degree heat. However, nothing could take away from the lovely day we enjoyed at this organised event. You need to be there at opening time (noon) to be sure of a nearby parking spot.

It's a little kitschy and there are a few tourist-trap stores, but overall it's a cute historic town with plenty of free things to do - enjoy the park at the Civic Center, ride the trolley, find the public art sculptures, browse galleries, etc. It's very clean and people are friendly. You won't have a hard time finding a place to eat!

This area is a real little oasis of calm. The grounds are well kept and attractive. There was a live performance going on whilst we were there which was entertaining and the ice cream from the little shop is to die for. Make sure you find a little time to enjoy this area whilst in Scottsdale.

I live in Phoenix and it is my favorite place to visit in Scottsdale on a regular basis. The library, Scottsdale City Hall, Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Sct. Historical Museum, galleries and restaurants, all surrounded by beautiful grass, flowers, trees, fountains, sculptures and more. It's a great place to relax, have a picnic or attend one of the many events held year round: American Indian Dances, food festivals, top quality art & craft shows, outdoor music and entertainment. Strolling the grounds is free, unless there is an event going on. How much money you'll spend and how long you're there all depends on what you choose to see and do. A must see, in my opinion.
