Awesome location and awesome resort.

6 of us went to Scottsdale and Sedona for a girls getaway in September. I can't say enough great things about this resort and the planning staff at the resort.

We planned an opening dinner with the girls that included a pre-planned/set meal with a menu designed just for our group. We ate at Deseo, and LOVED every bite!

One night we sat outside at the firepits with wine and food. The environment was awesome, but the staff was rude to me and my friends towards the end of the evening. They failed to check on us, as I felt they should. We all had to get up to go find someone to pay our bill at the end of the night.

The daily breakfasts were great! They had everything you could ever want from a breakfast...fresh fruit, smoked salmon, bagels, eggs, toast, bacon, etc.

In addition to all of that, the resort/hotel was just beautiful. Loved the lazy river, but the spa was lacking. We had lots of services done, and it was nice; however, it was small and got really cramped because a lot of people (locals) came in to use groupons that they bought for the spa services. If they are gonna run a special, they should only have it on certain days, because it's a tiny spa.

Room Tip: We had a pool view and loved it! A couple other friends stayed on the same floor and had to walk FO...

On an overnight trip to Scottsdale to celebrate a friends birthday, we decided to stay at the Kierland Resort and it was a lovely property. It looks like a giant country manor in England or Scotland (though much, much larger!). We stayed in a room overlooking the golf course on the 5th floor. We arrived around 5 in the afternoon, check in was painless and efficient, though the $27 fee to park the car in valet overnight seemed to be a bit excessive when coupled with the $25 resort fee we were also charged. We arrived in our room and opened our balcony door to the sounds of a Bagpiper playing on the course. It was quite charming! the balcony was huge, you could have had a small party on it! The view was stunning, looking over the lake, rolling golf course and the firepit below where people were already gathered to enjoy cocktails. The room was very nice, spacious and very classy looking in tones of taupe, white and dark wood. The service at this hotel is very nice, the porter hung our garment bags for us and carefully placed our bags on racks for us to access them easily. The bathroom is tiled and has a separate shower and tub, very pretty. There was a makeup vanity which was helpful since there were three of us trying to get ready at the same time. There was a knock on our door at about 5:45 PM to ask us to shut our drapes before 6:30 PM as there was some sort of show that is projected against the side of the hotel and our room was part of the show.. We did not see the show, but complied with the request. We came back after the celebration, exhausted and happy, ready to climb into our comfy beds and drift off to sleep, but the only down side to the stay was that the room was very warm. Now this is Arizona (we are from Tucson ourselves), but it is November and was only 80 that day, so we were puzzled as to why the room would be so stuffy. We turned the thermostat down, it showed the room was 68 degrees, which was not correct by at least 10 degrees! So we waited to see if it would cool down, and finally gave up and opened the balcony door to try to get some air into the room. We all ended up sleeping fitfully and were less than thrilled. We did not get to see the pool, but given the beauty of the rest of the property I am sure it is a winner with the new Flowrider water attraction.

Room Tip: We stayed in 5307 and it had a beautiful view!

Three months ago, they opened the Flowrider at the Westin and what a blast! Our whole family (ages 8 -45) tried it and although we wiped out pretty hard almost every time, it was so fun and worth it! The instructors Jen and Steve are very patient and helpful and ensure that you at least get some time boogie boarding. They will also let you stand up on the wakeboard and help support you with a rope. The whole ride is padded, so falls aren't so bad...kinda part of the fun.

We also loved the Saturday night light show that made the side of the building appear 3D and come alive near the fire pit where smores with Peeps and marshmallows of different flavors satisfied every kid (and adult) in our group. The grounds and pool are amazing and the proximity to the outdoor shopping area make this resort truly amazing.

We have stayed here many times and overall find this resort to be a positive experience. However, this trip was different and wondered if it was just an off day or if they are slipping a bit. First, during check in felt extremely rushed by the front desk person even though there was no one waiting. Felt as though she just wanted us out of the way rather than great welcome and service received in the past. Second, did not sleep very well due to water noise going on and off in room all night. Mentioned this to front desk person in the morning and only received a "sorry" with no interest in writing down the issue to report to maintenance. Perhaps some better customer service reminders to front desk people would be helpful.
Overall, the resort is in an excellent location near Kierland shops and restaurants and many wonderful amenities. The pools, fitness center, golf course and common areas are excellent. Nicest rooms are upper floors looking out to golf course. It is pricey except for off season or gov. employee rates.

Room Tip: Best rooms are upper floors facing out to golf course.

Thank you for sharing your valuable feedback from your recent stay. We appreciate hearing from our guests about their overall Kierland experience. As a frequent guest of The Westin Kierland, we are delighted to welcome you back again and again as a part of our extended Kierland family. We are, however, very sorry to hear that you encountered a few challenges with your check-in process and fixing the water noise near your guest room. I can assure you that this is not the level of service we strive to provide our guests, and that we will make every effort to prevent you from having a similar experience in the future. We encourage our guests to share any challenges encountered during their stay so that we can do our absolute best to find a solution before checking out. We certainly hope you will continue to return to our resort, and we thank you for being a valued guest of The Westin Kierland.

Sincerely,

We just returned from a 5 night stay at the Westin Kierland. The property is beautiful, the rooms are spacious and well equiped with all the luxury's of a 5 star property including Starbucks coffee, top shelf shampoos and toiletries, the most luxurious comfortable beds, bathrobes and slippers, complimentary bottled water, mini fridge stocked and one empty to store your own drinks or snacks! The service was great. Only complaint would be the system they have for storing your luggage. We stored our luggage while we were waiting for our room to be ready (we arrived early) and the process to retrieve our luggage was painful. The bell men seemed unorganized and had a very hard time finding our luggage. This part didn't match up to the rest of this amazing property as far as service but a minor complaint considering everything else was outstanding. The restaurants on site are excellent! We tried Deseo which was amazing! It's one of those hidden gem restaurants that could easily be rated one of the top restaurants in the area. One of our favorite parts of the resort was the big round firepit in the courtyard with couches and blankets set up. You can sit around the fire at night and order a bottle of wine or desserts or coffees, snacks and enjoy the beauty of the property at night with the lit up palm trees. You can buy a "smores" kit to roast marshmellows and it comes with everything you need including the roasting sticks, chocolate, graham crackers and marshmellows. A very nice and unique touch. We can't wait to return to the Westin. I am a travel agent and have stayed at countless hotels all over the world and this property would be one of my favorites for the area! Location is so great as you can walk to the Kierland Commons where you will find all the name brand stores and unique restaurants. Lastly we enjoyed the bagpiper that played every night in the courtyard at sunset....nice touch.

Had a great time at hotel but its has been two weeks since I checked out and still have three separate charges totaling $1500+ dollars on my credit card. Check out date 11/5 and its 11/21. Still with pending authorizations! Not necessarily a big deal for me because I designate one credit card for hotels but my advice ---- leave some extra wiggle room on your credit card for the pending authorizations!

I have contacted Westin and sent e-mail messages to Jessica Gray. Not really helpful ...placing the blame with credit card company.

Nonetheless besides the credit card issue. Enjoyed the resort! Spent time at restaurants, spa, and pool. Have stayed in other places in Scottsdale and this property stands out a little more due to proximity to shopping!

Room Tip: if you have a room facing the pool ... the sun will heat up your entire room. pick a room facing the golf course.

My husband, teens and I booked 5 days at the hotel in the beginning of October. What a great stay. The room was great, The pool was great and the I loved the gym. We drove to the local Safeway to get breakfast food, wine and beer which we could keep in our hotel fridge. It was nice to make a cup of Starbucks in the room while we got ready in the morning. We then purchased our second cup at the take-out cafe. I was provided a running route that I used, while my husband and kids enjoyed the balcony that looked over the golf course. The lazy river was great for us. While my husband walked 18 holes at a local golf course, in the 85+ degree heat, my kids and I hit the local malls and then returned to enjoy the lazy river. I enjoyed a cocktail by the pool too! My only wish is that the restaurants breakfast/brunch prices were a bit lower. My daughter and I went for a late breakfast one morning. We shared the french toast, had one egg each (I believe one egg any style was $3.50). I had a coffee, she drank water. The bill was over $40.00 with tip. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and helpful. Be warned that when the hotel concierge calls your room and says that he/she has a gift for you at their desk, they provide you with a gift (I received a hotel brand beach style bag), and then they invite you to a 1.5 to 2 hour time share meeting. No thanks. Other than that we really enjoyed our stay and would return to this hotel.
