“Very nice, though not outstanding”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 5, 2012

We did the Luxury Link package at the Saguaro and enjoyed it a lot, though we thought the rooms were average. The room and bath were a little small and while redone, have a slightly worn feel. However, the public areas and the pools are very nice. We particularly enjoyed the Old Town Whiskey's outdoor patio - wonderful gas fire and nice service with excellent burgers. The Saguaro is perfectly located for getting to Old Town Scottsdale - just a block walk, so great for quickly getting to restaurants and art. I think the Luxury Link package made it a good deal, but I'd look a little more carefully at the price if you were paying regular rates.

The Saguaro offers a great location in that you can park your car and walk into Oldtown
Scottsdale. The staff, with whom I had limited contact, were very friendly. I guess that the boutique label refers to the fact that it is an old motel has been updated and remodeled . Our room and the halls were very clean and the beds were comfortable. The rooms were small and the air condition/heater sounded like an airplane. The pool and surrounding pool area were really beautiful.

The unpleasant part of staying here is the parking of one's car. There was a daily cost $14, plus other strange taxes for parking and of course the resort fee. Then of course, you need to valet parking and tipping there. There was alot of ambient noise from the parking lot on the weekend. No coffee pots were in the rooms.

We thank you very much for your feedback, and are glad you had an enjoyable stay. I want to apologize for the confusion on the parking charges. Complimentary parking is available within walking distance to the hotel, or we do charge $14.00 nightly for overnight parking. Our Wi-Fi and Fitness Center are complimentary and we do not have a Resort Fee, I'm very sorry if this was not communicated properly to you during your stay with us. We will use your comments as an opportunity to re-train our staff, to ensure that future guests have clarity on our parking options.

Thanks again for staying with us, and we hope to see you again in the future.

I was at the Saguaro for a conference and was pleasantly surprised by everything. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I loved the bright colors of the decor and the location was perfect! We were in walking distance of shopping and many wonderful restaurants. I had never been to Scottsdale before and would definitley stay at the Saguaro again when I return for another visit.

We took full advantage of our stay at The Saguaro. A massage, dinner at Distrito, pool fun with cocktails and duck fat fries and a walk through Old Town. All of it was great!! I can't wait to come back with my dog! Fun place with professional and friendly staff. We will be back!

The Saguaro hotel is in a great location. Located right on the edge of Scottsdale's Old Town and the Civic Center Mall, it is ideal for visiting the Arts District as well as the Scottsdale Center for Performing Arts and Museum of Contemporary Arts and a number of upscale restaurants. The Saguaro hotel also hosts the Distrito restaurant with its Iron Chef Jose Garces.

As previous posters have already mentioned, The Saguaro is an older hotel that has recently been renovated. They painted every wall a different color and put purple carpet in the hallways, and each room has a different door color. The colors give it a fun, young, and vibrant feel. I wish they had gone further than just a superficial paint job. The ugly stained and chipped concrete staircases and entrances were a real turn-off. They reminded me of some neglected motel along Route 66.

The room itself was fairly small but nicely decorated with bright colors. Some of the art consisted of old postcards tacked to the wall. The room was also very clean. The kingsize bed had a good mattress, but it sat on a creaky wood platform bed. We couldn't turn without making a lot of noise. The bedding was of very good quality. The bathroom was functional and very clean, with a great shower. The first night, however, the water was only luke warm, and I had to call the front desk to have it fixed. They had it fixed by the next morning, and after that, it was perfect. There was a flatscreen TV and a tiny refrigerator, which was filled with many little bottles of water with fancy spa labels. There was barely any space to put my ordinary bottle of Crystal Geyser.

The pool area was very nice and inviting. There were many lounge chairs and cabana-like beds. All chairs had clean towels for the guests' use. One drawback of having a room overlooking the pool area was the obnoxious music that played all day long until 10 pm, long after it was dark and there were no more people at the pool. There is a small workout room near the pool as well as a jacuzzi and a spa which I did not visit.

Parking was $10 per day for self-parking. There are plenty of parking spaces by each building, and I didn't think valet parking was really necessary.

Pluses: great location, very clean room and bathroom, friendly and helpful staff
Minuses: shorthanded reception, ugly concrete stairs and hallways, small room, creaky platform bed, a motel that pretends to be a luxury hotel

We enjoyed our stay at the recently opened Saguaro. It is an older hotel that has survived many incarnations. I liked that Joie de Vivre did not bulldoze the aging hotel and instead revamped it. The bold colors and mid-century style are wonderful. We stayed in a patio room and appreciated the older growth plants that providied privacy. The location is excellent as we were able to walk directly off the property into old Scottsdale. The coffee shop in the lobby serves wonderful muffins and croissants along with great coffee. We were seeing friends and so did not dine at the Distrito. Next time! Only one small complaint, I ended up with a huge bump/bruise on my shin from the protruding corner of the bed. Owie!

Room Tip: Definitely a patio room!

Arrived at dusk to the property and were very impressed with the landscaping and the entrance. The valet were very friendly and at $14 was the same price as self parking. The reception area was well appointed and the check in process smooth and friendly. We checked out the pool area on the way to the room and it seemed to have many chairs and cabanas available for during the summer months. The water was steaming so I am sure it was heated. It was fairly cold on the way up to the room as the walkways are open, although everything was freshly painted it all felt rather dated. Upon entering the room the first thing that struck me was the thin commercial type carpet that had been laid directly to the concrete slab. The ceilings were original "popcorn" type and I am sure could have told some stories. Bathroom was fairly small with a new sink but resurfaced tub and surround, bed, sheets and pillows were comfortable and there was a large flat screen TV. THe biggest complaint about the rooms was the noise!, You can hear everything and I mean everything, through the connecting doors. You can also hear everyting that is said in the hallways and outside as it appears the glass doors are made of single glass and original. The room has a motel type A/C that luckily only came on once when it got cold but it sounded like a Chinese textile factory ramping up production, would not want to be there in the summer when it is running 24/7. All in all it was an interesting experience, the staff and the outside areas were good, the rooms need a bunch of money spent on them to bring them up to a level where they can charge the type of money they are charing

Room Tip: do not take a connecting room uder any cirumstances
