“Great place for some R and R”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

This place was amazing- Staff were very friendly- although it is a time share it is not pushed on you. Convenient location to find. Pool are was well maintained and large enough to not feel like you were in another persons way. Would definitely recommend for family as well as couples.

Thank you so much for your great comments, and we definitely hope to see you again sometime. Please don't ever hesitate to contact us if we can ever be of service.

I exchanged into this resort and was very pleasantly surprised to find that I was not relegated to some less desirable section of the resort as a non-owner. Actually I was delighted to discover that there really don't seem to be any "non-desirable" parts of the resort. It is beautifully laid out and landscaped, and as requested, I was assigned a top floor unit which was a great retreat spot. I had a unit in a building without an elevator, but that was not a problem for me.
The pools are both very nice with sufficient towels and attendants keeping everything looking good. The main pool has a snack bar with a fairly decent menu selection and reasonable prices and hours. Monday night they had a complimentary pool party with hotdogs, chips, lemonade and some great live music--a very pleasant interlude. A very nice bonus was that the meal was served by the Resort's top management. I had the opportunity to meet and visit with the GM, Cassandra ( YES, a woman in charge and she is doing a phenomenal job) who was very outgoing and it was quickly obvious to me that she has high expectations for the service level at this resort. By setting the bar high and leading by example, she has positioned Sheraton Desert Oasis to be a vacation destination that people will want to return to again and again. Kudos to Cassandra and her entire team! Charles has her back as Director of Operations and is a key player in keeping everything running smoothly. Lastly, I must compliment Concierge Helaine who was very helpful throughout my stay.
Looking forward to returning!

Dear frewontheroad,

Our associates are truly the backbone of our resort, and we very much appreciate the kudos you have extended toward them in your recent review. Please be assured that we will pass it along to them, and that we will surely thank them for a job well done!

And we are so grateful for your most complimentary review and for being a valued guest. We really try to say "thank you" to all of our guests and really thrive on the interactions our associates are able to have through our Vacation Kick Off party you mention, which happens every Monday. But most of all, we are so thrilled you were able to enjoy it so much, and we feel the same feeling about the enjoyment of the resort facilities you described.

I know that everyone you had a chance to meet and named would be so excited to see you again! Upon your next visit, please feel more than welcome to come in and chat with us for a while. After all, we want everyone to feel that the Sheraton Desert Oasis is truly their home away from home!

Kindly,

First off... WOW!!! Amazing place!!!

I would say we probably spent 90% of our stay in the pool area. Enjoyed the waterfall. And no matter where you sat that hot sun would follow... not that I am complaining of the 40C+ (100F+) temps. When we left Winterpeg it was -1C, so you can see why we weren't complaining.

Resort was in a nice quiet location. And maybe because it was in September wasn't filled with too many young children. But we did stay during the week. By the weekend that's when the families with children began arriving. But a young couple like us we would definitely bring our kids (once we start having children) to this resort.

Notice how I keep calling it a resort, and not a hotel... and for this reason: 1 bedroom, Full Kitchen, walk-in shower with 2 shower heads, 2 bathroom sinks, 2 HDTVs, and a balcony. What hotel offers all this?

As this place is part of a timeshare vacation, you get a "free gift" if you listen to their sales pitch, which includes a $100 AMEX gift card (and by the way it has not been activated for some reason, and hope that it will be fixed real soon). But when I read that it is a "no pressure" presentation, it really was true. Learned alot about the company and other resorts it is associated with. We hope to visit Westin Kierland Villas in the next few years and receieve the same experience we got from Sheraton Desert Oasis. But we are still wondering about the $100 AMEX gift card not being activated???

The pool-side restaurant, SPLASH, was decent. Found the food pricey, but tasted pretty good. Beer was $6 a bottle... you should be drinking water with that brutal heat anyway.

Every employee were really great to deal with, from the "Fun" department to the housekeeping/maintanence workers.

We can't wait to return to Arizona to enjoy more the sun!!!

Room Tip: Get to the pool early as it will get busy close to the afternoon, if you want to have a lounge chair...

Dear rayjaime,

Arizona in September is a great place to be, and I am so glad that you enjoyed your first visit here! And yes, soaking up the sun is a favorite pastime for locals and visitors alike, so we are very happy that the sunny skies didn't let you down!

Furthermore, thank you so much for your comments. I am concerned that you mention that your $100 Amex gift card has not yet been activated. I am unsure why that would happen, as they are supposed to be active before they are distributed. Since TripAdvisor reviews are generally anonymous, unfortunately I cannot reach out to you to ensure your issue is rectified. But if you do read this review response, please feel free to reach out to us by calling our direct main phone number, which can be found on our website.

We really do look forward to getting this issue resolved for you, and would very much enjoy being your host again upon your next visit to Arizona.

Truly,

We have stayed at the Sheraton Desert Oasis for winter break, Spring Training, and once for the Barrett-Jackson car show. We have extended family in Scottsdale, and sometimes need to be there for business, so we've tried many hotels and resorts in the area over the years. We generally prefer staying in Scottsdale to Phoenix, and we keep returning to the Desert Oasis because we like having the extra roomy units as compared to nearby hotels/motels (even those with "suites" or "casitas" just don't measure up in sq footage and layout). The Sheraton's pool has a nice touch--a waterfall that you can swim through, and shaded areas both in and outside the pool that help one survive the area's hotter weather.

Usually we find a private rental (though a timeshare owner--best deal if you go for an entire week, starting on the weekends), though we've also used our Starwood SPG points at times for shorter stays. The nearby Westin Kierland timeshare is gorgeous but the Sheraton Desert Oasis is comfortably nice in a warm, relaxing, yet sophisticated way (and we hear that they may remodel soon...) It's a second home to us (and it's convenient to Kierland Commons, Frank Lloyd Wright, TPC, many restaurants, etc.) And near the main arteries and freeways, so we can get anywhere (ball games in March) with minimal hassle.

Stayed at the Sheraton for 5 days in September. The rate was quite low (booked through Air Canada). The hotel is close to shopping, the 101 and convenient to access Cave Creek and other areas north of Scottsdale. We asked for a ground floor unit and although convenient, found it very dark as the only source of light was the small patio that was surrounded by a building. The staff was very welcoming and happy to help but we had to ask for housekeeping to come each day. Housekeeping would have been an extra $20/day but they made a special allowance for us as we are SPG members. The pool area is nice and has a good snack cafe but not very relaxing with the rush of the waterfall and a children's water play area. The "quiet" pool lost the sun very early in the day. All is all, for the price and location, this is still good value.

Dear Cris49_12,

I just wanted to take a moment to express our gratitude for your recent review, and for being a valued guest and Starwood Preferred Guest member. Your comments are extremely valuable to us. Furthermore, I am so glad to hear that you were able to enjoy the amenities and location of our resort, and that you felt it was a great value!

I am very concerned though that you were not satisfied with regards to the location of your villa, and that housekeeping was not automatically scheduled for you. Based on your rate plan, you should have automatically received a daily cleaning, and I want to sincerely apologize that you did not. I am pleased to hear that our associates did go ahead and provide the services to you, although you shouldn't have had to ask, and again, I apologize.

Thank you again for taking the time to submit your comments. On behalf of the Sheraton Desert Oasis, I do hope you return to our wonderful resort sometime soon. Please don't hesitate to contact us if we can assist you further.

Warm regards,

SDOManager

The Sheraton Desert Oasis is located right off the 101 on Hayden Road. It is very easy to locate and has a wonderful park across the road. The rooms were very nice and clean. We especially liked the Bose stereo system. Check-in was very easy and they accomodated me in every request. The pool is nice and very family oriented. A little boring for people that like to mingle. On the weekend they had a special drink of the day for $5, which was nice. Although, they only had a drink of the day on the weekend and they prefer that you do not bring your own to the pool. I would not recommend this resort for people with walking or breathing difficulties because there is really no room that is close to anything. I traveled with older women and it was difficult for one of them to enjoy everything because of that. All in all it was a very nice resort and there is a ton of shopping and restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony facing the pool. Most of them do not and you really only have a view of trees.

I stayed in a large one bedroom unit here on a special I booked through Interval International for $300 for the week. The units are very new and comfortably outfitted with full kitchens, and a two person jacuzzi tub right in the bedroom. Even though this is a timeshare, I was not bothered by anyone to attend any sales pitch, which was a plus. There are two pools, a large one with a huge waterfall, and a smaller quiet shaded pool. The grounds are lushly landscaped, and there are activities for children. The complex is close to great shopping and restaurants, as well as the 101 freeway. I have no complaints, and it was an extremely pleasurable week stay.
