I may have posted this under the old place, but now it is called Renegade by MOD.(fall 2013)
The two of us tried Renegade by MOD(Michael O'Dowd) for the first time during the fall Arizona Restaurant week. It was $30. for 3 courses and 1 of us added wine for $15. to go with all 3 courses.
I read in the local newspaper that Renegade MOD is going to offer the 3 course meals until the end of the year(2013). Menu changing monthly. Check with the restaurant to make sure.
We had the shaken wedge salad and the duck pastrami bruschetta for our first courses
Our second course was pan seared salmon on fingerling potato hash and the other was filet mignon with lobster knuckes.
Our 3rd courses was white chocolate & apple creme brulee and bread pudding with bacon, cherries, & rosemary with an irish whiskey sauce.
We loved all the courses and the wine pairing.
The decor is by a local street artist Lalo Cota. There are bicycles and iron decorations. The patio looked very inviting, but it was still too hot out when we dined there in September.
The servers use skateboard trays and other unusual implements.
We enjoyed our time at Renegade MOD and will go back sometime, but it is a bit of a drive from the far south east valley.

After reading the positive review in the Arizona Republic newspaper, we were interested to check out this restaurant, and went with another couple of foodies, all in our 60s. First impression on an October Saturday night was poor. Noisy music for the middle-aged clientele, bright lights and few patrons.

The menu is eclectic, and the food is interesting. However, the scallop dish that one of our party ordered was skimpy, the seafood in a bag that my wife ordered was served with the plastic bag still in the bowl, and the duck breast that my friend and I ordered wasn't very tasty or interesting.

I'm a bread lover, so it was a disappointment that no bread is offered, just some crispbreads.

The main courses arrived before my wife had finished her salad. Then the server wanted to clear away our main course plates before my wife had finished hers.

Generally a disappointment for $60/head including a bottle and two glasses of wine between the four of us... The restaurant needs to fix the lighting, music and service before we consider returning. There are many much better choices in Scottsdale.

First time at this establishment. Nice, clean and somewhat formal. Great atmosphere and the service was excellent, polite and attentive. The theme of the restaurant is very confusing. It is portrayed like a biker's place, which it is not. Then you have the artwork for sale and the bikes displayed in the restaurant. The food themes does not match anything else in the general them of the restaurant. It's like they have an identity crisis. The food was very good, although an unusual menu. What my friends and I noticed is that it's expensive for what you get, kinda over the top. We would go back for sure, as long as I don't pick up the tab!

We arrived here greeted by very mediocre front desk, amidst various used bikes and biker gear. Place was very quiet just a few tables taken at 730 on a Saturday night. A few people in the extensive bar area. Greeted by over loud heavy metal music being blasted through several speakers. Waiter appeared eventually and tried to explain the crazy concept that this place offers. His words it's so original and different and we aim for three things
1. Music, live on weekends from 800pm and great music beforehand. Well this is N Scottsdale folks and the average age of the clientele is 65 plus, take a look around and no one can speak let alone enjoy with this loud offensive music, so can you turn it down. No was the answer.
2. Art: we will have new art here very week for you to buy. Great well I actually come for dinner to eat and drink! There are great galleries all over Scottsdale and we don't one here.
3. Locally produced food, well wants new about that I asked? Well it's different look at the menu.

Not an impressive start, 2 ladies over 75 on the next table complaining about the noise and can they please have their remains boxed and get out of here ASAP. This took wonder waiter John 20 minutes and 3 reminders to sort out.

He also forgot to give us our bread lavosh, which was good, and also forgot to ever offer any top up drinks through out the entire evening.

So the menu appears, totally confusing, incomprehensible words such as purslane, litoi, micro snips, blis 9, tiny pedals, burnt marshmallow fluff, Etc etc what crazy person wrote this stuff?

High prices and total confusion, what is this place offering? $80 a head I guess with drinks and who are you aiming at? North Scottsdale bikers? Certainly not to the people who are sitting here confused, hate the music and uncertain what to order.

So waiter John eventuality reappears and we go through each question about all these strange foodstuffs and we settle on the Restaurant Week menu from the previous weeks that is running on and indeed it's a great deal at 30 or 45 with drinks, and the food was exceptional.

But then the main course came just as we were finishing the appetisers, and we waited 27 minutes for the dessert. Some apology offered for the delay to be fair from John.

So more questions, why put the silverware in this metal can on the table for all to share you know for 150 for the 2 of us, I expect some service? Well he says that's the concept, along with the ash trays for the butter, well they were so small and the butter so big, we couldn't actually tell that they were ashtrays anyway! oh he says very excited did you see that the food was served on skateboards? We don't use trays here! Well I haven't seen a tray in any restaurant other than self service buffets for about 30 years, and as the servers have to use 2 hands to hold the skate boards they have to put them down on a nearby table and pass over the food, so you can't see that they have skateboards anyway.....man this waiter is off the wall!

When is the live music starting I asked to one of the girl servers at 810pm? Well at 800 pm she replies, oblivious to the time. When prop ted she says I guess they are running late tonight! She disappeared and the live artiste starts immediately. Unfortunately his nice voice is drowned out by the people in the bar yelling at the baseball playoffs on the adjacent tv's!

In the restaurant the atmosphere improves with the live music as we can now talk and hear what's going on, long faced diners slowly walk out confused and irritated. A few more diners arrive and again scratch their heads at the crazy menu.

MOD stay just being a fantastic chef, just offer the greatest menu and the greatest cooking, get away from all these hangers on giving you these idiotic concepts which appeal only to them.

Sort out the service which is dreadful, get some fancy front desk operators, sort out the music or you will be closed very quickly.

Would any of the diners from near us last Saturday come again, absolutely not, will they recommend this to their friend, no way and looking at the lack of customers on a Saturday night you get the feeing that few people come back.

Good points, the food, the rest rooms and the bar ambience, the rest is a dud.

This venue is a failed venue and graveyard for restaurants and it's going to go the same way with this pathetic concept.

Finally there is a dead bush on the indoor Patio, is the local manager interested in the detailing? Clearly not.

Had the opportunity to eat and drink here over the course of 2 weeks last January before the revamp.
Heck I enjoyed it then looking forward to returning again this January.
Great place, laid back atmosphere, superb host.
