We recently had a fantastic meal at La Hacienda at the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (go there! It's wonderful). Our reservation was at 8:30pm on a Saturday night and they were very busy. We had a table outside and it was lovely. It was dark, the misters were going to keep us cool in the overwhelming desert summer heat, the palm trees and fountain in the courtyard were all lit up AND we had a great view of the resort fireworks. And then there was our meal...delicious! My husband was raised on a very German diet of meat, potatoes, borscht etc so isn't naturally inclined to foods from other cultures...so I was worried that he wouldn't enjoy anything. I worried needlessly because even he thought our meal, was fantastic. We both ordered Tampiquena ($34) which is a beautiful dish that has an incredibly tasty marinated skirt steak, a mole cheese enchilada, poblano potatoes au gratin, guacamole and cactus pico. Neither one of us enjoys guacamole, so I can't comment on that, but everything else was stellar. We also ordered fried plantains which were so good! I only wish that the steak and potatoes au gratin portions were a smidge bigger because they were so good! A few more bites would have been welcome. Our two entrees, the plantains and an alcoholic drink each came to $100, and although it is way more than we usually spend on a meal we didn't regret it for a moment.
