decidedly upsacle thai joint in decidedly downscale shopping center.
The best service I received in Scottsdale on my last 5 day visit.
One member of my party was not feeling 100 % and ordered plain noodles.
The Manager delivered the noodles and asked the guest "is this what you wanted? if not we can make you anything you's like."
Very good Thai food, very good service tasteful decor.

We had a very good lunch at Takeda and the room has beautiful decor. But the owner should take lessons in not offending customers with aggravating nickle and dime pricing policies. Charging extra for brown rice rather than jasmine and for peanut sauce is chintzy; charging $3.90 for Thai iced tea (without placing the price on the menu) is insulting.

If you go, beware of the add-ons

I live in Scottsdale and for years have looked for a great Thai restaurant. There are a few Thai restaurants in the area, but they've always disappointed me. Either things taste too watered down, use "tired" vegetables, or the sauces are just not exciting and flavorful. Soups taste like they have been in acauldron on the stove for days...

Takeda Thai opened up in Jan 2009. Prior to this point, I had been watching for it to open, as I'd driven by it several times prior to opening and the exterior looked very interesting. I just wasn't quite sure what it was going to "be" when it opened (the signage was not yet up).

So I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night in February with my fiance. WOW.... the interior is beautiful, elegant, and relaxing (unlike many Thai restaurants that are "junked up" with trinkets and tacky decor). Very classy, but not stuffy--just beautiful and elegant.

The first thing we experienced was the service, which was excellent. Very polite, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable.

We then tried the Tom Kha Gai soup---and I absolutely mean this with all my heart (and tummy), it is the BEST thing I have ever tasted. The flavors in this soup are sooo fresh, interesting, and just divine. The fresh lime leaves blend so nicely with all of the other flavors in this recipe. It blows away any other Tom Kha Gai I've had by MILES!

The coconut cream based broth is perfectly done. I asked how the soup was made because it tasted SO fresh, and the owners came out and talked to us about how they prepare each order of soup from scratch for each customer in little pots. I could DEFINITELY tell the difference---it was just outstanding. I crave it daily, now!

I tried the Penang Curry and my fiance tried the Thai Basil. Both were outstanding! My curry was the best Panang Curry I've had. I know I'm sounding over-the-top in writing this, but in all honesty, this Thai restaurant blows the top off anything else I've had. I travel across the country for business 3-4x per month and try different Thai places wherever I go. Takeda Thai will not disappoint and I am SO lucky to have it just a few miles from home!!

The owners, Sara and Moulay, are wonderful people who stop by your table to ensure everything is excellent whenever possible. I have been back MANY times since my first visit in February and the food is ALWAYS of consistent quality, delicious, and priced right. I couldn't complain about anything even if I wanted to!

It's nice to see an independently owned restaurant in the area with such flair and passion for preparing excellent food, along with a great atmosphere and service to go along with it all. I've since tried many other dishes there---and have always been incredibly pleased. Their chef has prepared food around the world before coming to Takeda Thai and I can really see the difference--they stand out far among the rest.

I will continue to return. Give it a try--you WILL not be disappointed!
