“Dump”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

We stayed here because we weren't able to extend our stay at the hotel where we had been. The room was small the appliances in the kitchen were beat up. The refrigerator made a very loud clang every time the compressor stopped that was loud enough to wake everyone up multiple times throughout the night. The breakfast wasn't bad but they change the times that they serve it on weekends. Because of my schedule I missed breakfast because of this on Saturday. The manager's reception was, I have to admit, pretty good with wine and beer and a pretty good selection of appetizers. They have a nice grass lawn that you can take your snacks and drinks out to an enjoy them. In spite of the booze and good snacks we will not be back. Not a good value for us.

RRGainey1, General Manager at Gainey Suites Hotel, responded to this review, April 23, 2013
We are deeply disappointed when a guest experience is anything less than their expectation. To be called a “Dump” certainly hurts to hear but nonetheless, we appreciate your thoughtful comments, both complimentary and critical. As a team, and as a family, each and every one of us here at the Gainey Suites Hotel truly puts our heart and soul into creating a wonderful guest experience. Allow me to apologize for the noisy condition of the refrigerator that awoke you throughout the night and that you found the room small although the studio (open configuration) and one bedroom suites are 468-516 sq ft and we also have 2 bedroom suites available which are 733-840 sq ft in total floor space.
Coincidentally, we actually agree that it is time to replace the kitchen appliance package in all our guest rooms which we are scheduling beginning in mid-May (next month) which will include all new stainless steel refrigerators (that will run quiet), stove tops, microwave, and dishwasher. Additionally we are re-facing all the kitchen cabinetry in rich darker wood tones, along with stylish new trestle desks, table lamp and ergo-chair as well as granite tops for the nightstands which will enrich the look and feel of the guestroom.
I am also sorry that you missed breakfast on the weekend as we do open 30 minutes later and stay open 30 minutes later (7-10 am) on Saturday and Sunday as our weekend guests tend to come in a bit later and we always stay open an additional 10-15 minutes after that to accommodate the last few latecomers. We tell our guests upon check-in about the breakfast / evening reception and the hours for weekdays and weekends however we will now post the hours in a more conspicuous place as a convenient reminder.
There are also some other exciting upgrades/renovations coming this late spring and summer including the Lobby/Front Desk, Hearth Room enhancements, an indoor/outdoor patio bar, and a completely new pool deck, furniture, and more.
We would love to have you come back again and I promise that you will have a wonderful experience!
Please feel free to call me personally on my cell phone at 480 262 4665 to make those arrangements when your travels may bring you back our way again or if I can be of assistance in any other manner. On behalf of all our Gainey Family we look forward to having this opportunity and until then, wishing you all the very best and take care!
Warm regards,
Rich Newman, General Manager

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights in March during spring break. We had no complaints and we really liked this hotel! Our room was on the 2nd floor in the back of the building so it did not have a view of the courtyard but we did not mind. We were up high enough to see trees when we looked out the windows so we did not see the parking lot. It was quiet and in the morning we did not hear any doors slamming, which is typical at other hotels. The room is spacious, clean, and updated. The food was great, you could eat outside, and there was free wine and beer in the evening. The staff was wonderful. We wanted to watch the Iowa State NCAA tournament game on Sunday morning in the dining area and the manager was kind enough to turn up the sound so we could hear it, not just see it. We would absolutely stay again when we return to Scottsdale!

Room Tip: Most people like the courtyard view but it costs more and we were very happy with how quiet it was i...

Have stayed at Gainey Suites a number of years ago and forgot how nice it was. Loved the size of the suites, especially with an efficiency kitchen. Comfortable beds and pillows. Very roomy living space and bedroom too!! Pleasantly surprised to see such a nice breakfast spread complimentary as well. Even more surprised that they serve a light spread in the evenings too! Menus change daily!! Beautiful courtyard grounds to dine and relax by the pool.
We would definitely stay at Gainey Suites again for the location, price, complimentary breakfast and light evening snacks!!
This is a gem in the desert!!

We recently stayed at Gainey Suites while traveling through Scottsdale. We chose this hotel based on the reviews we read and the price being a little bit less than other area hotels. We were not disappointed.

Room was very clean and rather large. We had a full kitchen, living area, king size bed, and bath. Front desk staff was very nice and accomodating. This hotel was a little farther away from Old Town Scottsdale than the other hotels we considered, but only about a 10 minute drive or so.

Overall, would have to say this is a great value for the money. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

It was our first time in Arizona and we definitely made the right accommodation choice. Gainey Suites staff and service were excellent. It's the first hotel or resort we've ever stayed at where the Manager wasn't "locked" away in some office. He was constantly visible and available to chat or field questions and comments. The rooms were spacious and clean. Front desk, housekeeping, kitchen and maintenance staff were always cheerful, attentive and relaxed. The breakfast & evening happy hour meals were a hit with couples, business and family customers alike. One complaint. We were located on the 1st floor and we could clearly hear the heavy footsteps from the unit above. Especially early in the morning.

We stayed at this Hotel on a recent family holiday in Scottsdale and were generally happy with the resort. On the positive side the resort staff are very friendly, nothing is too much trouble. The two bedroom suite we had was clean, well kept and spacious. The room was a little dated but overall we thought it served it's purpose and the beds were new so we slept well.
We paid a little extra to get a suite on the ground floor overlooking the pool which was handy for our two boys as they spent alot of time around the pool and it wasn't that busy. Another nice thing was the resort offered a happy hour every day from 5:00-7:00pm offering different food each day and free drinks which was good value. Our rate also included breakfast and we thought the food available was OK but not great. You can spend alot more money staying a little closer to Old Scottsdale but since we had our own car we were able to drive around to see various things within a 15 minute drive. Being a golfer, I was reasonably close to the courses I wanted to play in the area. We thought our GPS had been stolen from our room when checking out we noticed it was missing. I must pay tribute to the resort General Manager Rich Newman who immediately showed up to offer his assistance. Rich couldn't have been more helpful and offered to help us with the cost to replace it which I thought was a very generous thing to do. Fortunately we found the GPS and it made the stay that much more memorable for us. Overall I think the Gainey Suites do alot of things right and I would stay here again if visiting Scottsdale.

I was hesitant to book a room at the Gainey Suites as the price almost seemed too low and we've had bad experiences where you get what you lay for which is low quality. Not here! The staff were very pleasant and helpful without tripping all over you. The rooms were comfortable, clean and we loved having a full kitchen in our room. The fitness room was small and the recumbent bike wasn't working properly but that would be the only negative thing I could say if I had to have one. The restaurants and stores right beside the resort were convenient as well.
