My first time in Arizona, and I stumbled into heaven. Mike and Angie's place isn't just a treat - in 30+ years of business travel all over the world I have no hesitation stating this is the best place I've ever stayed. The combination of an engaging, beautifully-kept and lovingly-appointed Inn, a fascinating desert location, and the wonderful hospitality of Angie and Mike just blew me away. I had a relaxed five day stay, spending lots of time doing as little as possible, and also seeing some local sights. It was hard to leave at the end of it; I felt totally spoiled and totally at home at Down By The River. Local attractions were well worth the time in the area - the Kartchner Caverns State Park, the Amerind Foundation Museum, and Tombstone to name just a few within 25 miles. And the Arizona skies at night? Breathtaking.

Room Tip: There are just four rooms at Down By The River, which was designed and built specifically as a B&...

Hello D
Glad that you enjoyed this place so much. I really liked the time you spent with me showing me how to photograph the night sky and using the program to give the star tracks life on the photos. I want to try it with the lightning storms that come in July and August. Hope to see you back in this part of Arizona at a future time.
Thanks for your gracious words.

We were lucky enough to have been able to spend 3 wonderful nights at Mike and Angie's incredible Bed and Breakfast. This place is a "must stay" if you are anywhere in the Southern Arizona area. There is just a ton of things to do and see and all in driving distance from the property. We hung out in Tombstone, took the Good Enough Mine tour, had a laugh at THE THING, spent some time in Bisbee, road the train thru the Queen Mine, made a stop at the Lavendar Pit and took both tours of Kartchner Caverns. After all of that the best part of our vacation was staying at Down by the River and being spoiled by Mike and Angie with their hospitality and gourmet breakfasts. We managed to squeeze in the Biosphere and the Titan II Missile and yet there are many more places Mike suggested so we will be back. Down by the River is just a beautiful, peaceful and inviting place to stay. The breakfasts are OVER THE TOP and around again. Fabulous and unforgettable. With so many things to do this location is perfect. Anyone who stays will not be disappointed. We stayed in THE BIRD Room which is one of the Master Suites. The bed was way comfortable and we were asleep in no time. That was the best nights sleep we have had in a long time. It was wonderful to wake up in the morning step out our back door onto our private patio and enjoy our morning coffee. It was a toss up deciding which room to stay in as they are all unique. The other Master Suite room is the Cowboy Room and how cute it was decorated complete with nostalgic long johns hanging above the shower. We spent hours just wandering around checking out all the cool antiques and Indian artifacts. We LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place and can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Every room is unique. Our favorite would be the Bird Room or the Cowboy Room each having a Kiva and...

We are glad that you found us and that you both enjoyed the stay. 3 days is short when you visit this part of Southeast Arizona as there is so much to see. There are more things for you to see so we know you will be back to see us again so that you can see other sites. We will make if just as much fun as your last stay.

I stumbled across this place when I was searching for a hotel near Kartchner Caverns. This B&B is truly a desert jewel. The ambiance of the whole place very serene and perfectly put together with themed rooms and historical/period peices that make it somewhat of a museum! The owners are super nice people that want you to totally enjoy yourself. They had lovely well-planned breakfasts. We saw a moonrise that was completely spiritual! Its a perfect spot for going out to many different activities in the area....caverns, Tombstone, vineyards are all within a 40 minute drive at most.

Room Tip: The Mission room is nice but smaller. Spend the extra for a larger one!

The rooms were each different and unique and only made us want to choose a different one on our return visit. You're greeted by cheerful informative hosts. The patio area was always busy with some type of bird coming through the area or multiple hummingbird. The common area was warm and inviting and the hidden tv was very nice to have the option of not seeing a tv but being able to still see what is going on in the world. The pool table gave a nice option of playing a game in the evening and being able to sit on the patio at night and see the stars only continues in the feeling of being completely away from the world. If the relaxation and quiet wasnt enough you are greeted by delicious food that makes you feel like you are being served by a world class chef for breakfast. The hosts were completely knowledgable in St. David and Tombstone attractions and resturaunts. We will definately be going back again in the future.

Room Tip: There really is no tip to choosing a good room they all have their own personality which only makes...

My husband Frank and I just stayed at Down by the River and had the most wonderful time. Mike and Angie were perfect hosts. They fulfilled our every need and made us feel most welcome. They even left us an anniversary card, as we were there on our anniversary weekend. Each room at the B&B is like a museum. So many unique and memorable touches. The breakfasts were delicious and decadent. We look forward to returning in the future and would highly recommend it to anyone going to southern Arizona.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Western Room and loved the decor. The bed was extremely comfortable and it was esp...

Laurie and Frank.
Angie takes pride in her card making and if she knows far enough in advance that a special day will happen when we have a guest here she does make a card. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and we hope to see you again.

My high school friend and I spent the first night of our Arizona road trip at Mike and Angie's place. It was an excellent place to recover from the plane trip and to be introduced to Arizona.
The home is filled with southwestern items, but it is the setting that makes this place different. Off the beaten track to say the least and with those gorgous mountains surrounding the property you know you are in a special place. I enjoyed the birds and the other wildlife found around their home. Breakfast was early to get us on the road and the smoothies were really good. I will stay there again if I am in the area.

Angie and I know birders like to be out and about early. Being close to the San Pedro River makes that easy for birders that stay at our b and b. There are time like yours when you need to be on the road earlier and so we try to work on our guest schedule as much as possible. Hoe you do come back to visit because you will see how centrally located we are to all the birding areas here in Cochise County.

We spent one night here and wished we had booked more. Mike and Angie are superb hosts; the breakfast was amazing and Mike's even shared his birthday cake and wine with us. It was a real joy! Down by the River is off the beaten track but well worth seeking out.

We pride ourselves in being off the beaten track. We really aren't actually but being in the setting where we live makes people feel that this little oasis is so secluded. We enjoyed talking with you and wish that we had more time to spend with you. Come back at anytime and we will treat you just as well if not better than the first time.
