“Happily surprised”

After reading some of the reviews we were nervous about our two night stay, but we had two nice and clean rooms, our dinner at the restaurant was very good, service was right on and the margueritas by the pool were delicious. The pool is not heated so no swimming in March. We enjoyed the area, being very close to Tubac for shopping and we toured the vineyards near Elgin on our way back to Mesa. It was a relaxing couple of days and I would recommend the resort.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the pool as there is music playing all the time and there were several peop...

The resort is very nice on the surface but suffers from lack of attention to details. Room was nice and views from Roadrunner building were good. Customer service except Jesus at front desk was appalling. We used a Travelzoo voucher and had to go to the front desk 3 times to get the F/B credit we were due. Food service was barely existent as we had to seat ourselves inside for breakfast after waiting on the terrace for 15 min. and never being approached by wait staff. Food was good but a bit pricey, wait staff needs to understand that when you provide poor service the worst thing you can do is make excuses for it to your guests.

Thank you Jesus for helping to resolve our credit issue, you should be promoted to manager on duty whenever your Manager is gone for an extended period of time. Customer service is an important aspect of what separates a resort from a Chain Hotel. Again, not a resort in this aspect.

BTW- all resort staff should have name tags on!! This is so I could properly thank those who did a good Job. Thank you to the young lady who did wait on us in the dinning room Sunday morning.

First of all, Rio Rico is just a spot in the road along I-19 about 10 miles north of Nogales, AZ.. Not much else around here. BUT, it is a very relaxing resort. It is an older resort, BUT well maintained. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are adequate with a Southwest motif. From what we could see, all had balconies, which is a plus. The restaurant has wonderful views, but the food left something to be desired. Breakfast was ok, but dinner was a disappointment.. They have free wi fi and they accept pets for just 25..00 per stay.Tthe grounds are well manicured, and the rooms were very comfortable, and quite clean . They have cable with about 40 some channels. They have a nice pool and an exercise room. They have a golf course close by..---not sure where it is. If you are military, ask for the military discount. It is about 6 miles from Tubac, AZ., which has a large number of galleries, an Mexican crafts. You will find it enjoyable.

Esplendor Resort has been around for a very long time. The property is older but well-maintained. The staff are very pleasant and helpful. The guest rooms are clean and comfortable. Nice outside courtyard, pool area with wood-burning fire place that would provide a wonderful ambiance had it been lit during our stay. I have stayed at this resort many times in the past as it is conveniently located to take advantage of area attractions such as Tubac artist village, Lake Pena Blanca, Nogales, Sonoita, Patagonia, etc. I would definitely stay here again.

We had the buy one night, get one night free deal, which made this very affordable, about $80 per night (with tax). We also took advantage of the free breakfast (one morning only) offer through TripAdvisor. The hotel sits on a hill and one has a nice view of the mountains, if one gets a balcony room. If one gets an inside room, one faces the pool and greenery (trees and lawn). There are separate, but joined buildings (with names like Quail or Javalina). The room had a large king bed, a desk, an easy chair, a fridge, a TV, a coffee maker, hairdryer. The fridge didn't have a freezer top so we couldn't refreeze our "blue ice" in it. There were a lot of channels on the TV. There were enough mirrors -- the closet doors were mirrors, the sink had a nice mirror over it, and the desk had a nice mirror. The bed was a bit soft for my taste. There were enough wastebaskets (3). The restaurant had a view and a terrace part with a view, but it was a bit cold to sit there in March. The restaurant is a bit pricey, about $17 for the cheapest entree. We used this as a base to explore the Patagonia area of Arizona. There were people enjoying the pool, but again it was a bit cool for us in March. The room was large enough so both my husband and I could do our morning exercises (at the same time). One afternoon we made tea and had granola bars as we watched the sun and mountains. One morning (the one that was not free) we ate a breakfast of apples, granola bars, juice, tea (that we had brought with us). It was very pleasant
(with one's jacket on), had a nice view of the mountains, and didn't cost us around $25 (which is what we would have paid the day before, except for the voucher). This is really not a resort like most people these days expect, but it does have a tennis court, golfing (not on site), and swimming. The night we got there a wedding was taking place, so the restaurant was not serving but the bar was. However, we had already eaten. They did ask us if stairs were a problem. When we asked about an elevator, they put us on the 2nd floor, which is the floor that you drive up to. So it was easy to move in our luggage ourselves. This is DesertFox -- for some reason, this time my "handle" did not come up. Perhaps because I am at the office.

Room Tip: If you like a room with a balcony and aview of the mountains, ask for it when you book the room.

We liked Esplendor Resort. It has a Mexican or southwest style, done tastefully. It goes with the feel of the area.

It seems clean and well maintain, even if it is an older property. It certainly has more character than your average motel. We really didn't see all the property had to offer. My wife said the pool area and surrounding area was really nice. We didn't make it to the restaurant. The resort was probably 10% occupied. That was nice. The property is off the freeway a half mile or so up on top of a hill. So it's quiet and has a great view of the mountains and valley below.

The staff were very friendly.

The bed was comfortable, although not posh.

They are pet friendly with a reasonable $25 one time fee.

I would recommend this place, unless you want only a new and busy property on the side of the highway that looks like every other motel you ever stayed in.

Reservation process was great and easy to do.
Rooms were clean and equipped with enough towels , etc, etc!
Golfing tee times went very smooth, just as we were told.
Came back, had a fabulous "happy hour" in the Saloon. Put tables together for us and the service was absolutely fast and fun.
Then we had supper there and everyone was very satisfied.
Staff and service could not have been any better in any way.

Room Tip: Just ask for what you want and they will do everything they can to accommodate you.
