We loved the Grand Highland. Just a wonderful place to experience Old Town Prescott. The hotel is located just across from the Courthouse and is surrounded with galleries, antique shops, and great restaurants. It is also within walking distance to the wonderful Sharlot Museum (a must if you want to understand Arizona history!). The infamous Whiskey Row bars are on the same block...some family friendly and some not so much. The hotel is a lovingly restored property and is perfect for this area. The rooms are small (we peeked into several), but all of them were decorated in a way as to emphasize the history of the hotel while accommodating modern tourists. We stayed in Big Nosed Kate's room. Great linens, large bathroom, eco friendly vanity items, and surprisingly for a historical hotel, the shower had great water pressure! We got a welcome email from the manager, Ray, a few days before we arrived to tell us where to park and every time we had any contact with staff, we were treated warmly. We were there two nights, but easily could have stayed more. Just a terrific place. Could not have been happier.

Room Tip: We had a room about midway down the hall and had no problem with the street or bar noise.

Don't read this if you want a conventional hotel with big lobbies, pool, restaurant. The lobby is tiny, up steep stairs that feel like an old time ago. The entrance and the lobby may fool you as to what you will find in your room. The rooms are quite small, bathrooms good size. If you want more space get one of the suites. there is no handicapped access - probably grandfathered in since it is historic and an elevator would involve tearing down part of the history. The hotel was gutted after a fire took down the building next door. Almost everything has been renovated but there is still much to remind you of the boarding house it once was. Each new room takes up space where 2-3 previous boarding rooms were. Wonderful bathrooms with large pedestal sinks and claw tubs with shower - not the most comfortable size for a shower for a tall person but OK. wonderful beds and linens. Immaculately clean. Very hospitable owners and staff. Right on the square so we walked to everything. It is a fabulous way to experience something of what Prescott was many years ago, minus the mud and horse manure that must
have been ever present. Not a good spot for larger families. Probably a bit small for any kind of longer stay - but perfect for what it is, an historic yet renovated and comfy place to rest your body and soul. Oh, forgot, it can get noisy at
night - they give you earplugs - but it that is what the old town was, full of saloons and rowdy men. We were sad to see The Palace a few doors down no longer offers its wild west shows - and the modern yet real dusty cowboys (not the paid for actors) we used to sit next to at the bar. Over 3 days, we saw no real cowboys at the Palace, in fact there were few people there at all, guess no one is really managing it anymore, sad.

We had the Shadow Box room which does front the street with a beautiful bay window. We did not find the noise level from traffic to be a detriment but ear plugs are provided. The comfortable king bed with wonderful linens was the best! No, wait the bathroom was the best. It was huge with an Art Deco design and high rain shower head with great pressure. The sink is a square bowl with cascading water from the faucet and a separate make-up mirror! The toiletries were high end and came in a cute net bag - the soap also was not the super skimpy size. The breakfast was a cut above the standard with fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries and nice juices. The location was perfect for us and the free parking a plus. We did not mind the stairs. We particularly noticed the staff was very attentive and took a great deal of pride in their restored hotel and, if we could, we would have loved to stay longer.

The Grand Highland Hotel is a beautifully renovated hotel in the centre of Whiskey Row in Prescott. The rooms are well-appointed and very comfortable, although very small. The staff is fantastic and everyone went out of their way to ensure that our stay was a pleasant experience. The continental breakfast is awesome, loaded with fruit, fresh pastries and wonderful coffee! The hotel is situated within walking distance of restaurants and music venues.

Room Tip: The rooms at the front pick up the street noise.

After reading the opinions of the other travelers I thought I'd give it a try. I did like the central location but that's where it stopped. Be warned, the rooms are SMALL. There are a couple of rooms that two people can pass each other without turning sideways or one having to back up but the rest are not small, they're miniature. Most rooms are so small you can only sit on the bed. They reminded me of the interior cabin on a cruise ship. The walls are so thin I could hear a normal conversation next to me and they weren't speaking loudly. Others already mentioned the trek you'll take to get to your room. They didn't mention how narrow the back stairwell is when lugging the luggage...and if you're 6' or taller be ready to duck. You'll see what I mean. Someone said delicious breakfast. It was just a simple continental breakfast so don't get your hopes up. Finally, the price. Way over priced. My recommendation is if you still want to check this place out, make reservations elsewhere and walk through before making one here. You'll see what I mean. P.S. This is the first time a Tripadvisor recommended place was completely the opposite.

Please accept our apology for not meeting your expectations. We do everything within our control to make our guests as comfortable as possible. Clearly we were unable to meet your needs and for this we sincerely apologize.

Please allow us to address your concerns:

We do have larger rooms than the standard queen room selected. Our Capitol suite has a sitting parlor and is over 250 square feet. We also have two deluxe kings that are over 200 square feet.

Built in 1903, our Victorian row-style building once housed the Grand saloon downstairs and the Grand Hotel upstairs. The hotel was one of two hotels in the area and provided respite to ranchers, farmers and people of western notoriety like Wyatt Earp and Doc Holiday. The look and feel of our hotel today reflects this storied past. As a national registered building within a national historic district, we made an effort to keep as much of the architecture and style of the times. In doing so, we created a Boutique Hotel that maintains this history. Part of the charm is the rooms remain the same size as when originally built except we divided every other room into private baths for each room. Even our Capitol suite was a suite in 1903. Our adjoining rooms, adjoined in 1903, too.

The staircase is an original as well. I guess the humor of our family of ducks on the overhang was missed.

We stuffed every sound-proofing we could into our walls when we were renovating. We knew sound travel would really matter to our guests. We added resilient channel, sound board, staggered wood studs and insulation.

Our continental breakfast includes Naked juice and a variety of fruit and vegetable juices, fresh bagels, assorted pastries, fresh cut berries, Greek yogurt and a variety of fresh fruit. We have a variety of Kuerig coffee and tea available at all times. We are sorry this selection did not meet your expectations of a continental breakfast.

We recognize that the uniqueness of our Boutique hotel is not for everyone. We do wish we could have accommodated your needs. Again, please accept our sincere apology and if you do ever decide to give us another try, please call us and we will do our best to assist you in finding the right room for you!

We stayed at the Grand Highland in March 2014 and were delighted by it. We were able to park our car in the large free city parking lot just behind the hotel, and although there are 22 or so stairs that lead up to the hotel from both front and back, it was worth the climb. (We were told we could have help with our bags, but we managed fine on our own.) As other reviewers have noted, the rooms are small but tastefully decorated, and the family that owns and operates the hotel has made every effort to please their guests. The breakfast was delicious, the service was outstanding, and the location is terrific. The hotel is across the street from the historic court house and in the midst of interesting shops, art galleries, and bars and restaurants, but our room was quiet and we slept well. We enjoyed exploring the area and found the Grand Highland a great change from the big chain hotels.

Thank you for your wonderful words! We are elated with your comments. To help understand our room size: our hotel was built in 1903 and still has the same architecture and size. The building is 25 feet wide and 150 feet long with rooms on either side of a long, narrow hallway. We do offer a suite with a parlor and our two king deluxe offer more space with bay windows overlooking the Courthouse Square. Thank you for taking the time to let us know how your experience. Come see us again!

We had an excellent stay at this boutique hotel for a weekend getaway. Amazing & super accommodating staff and beautiful rooms. We got to peek into quite a few of them. It's right on whiskey row but we're not drinker/party-ers so we appreciated all the shops and boutiques and cafés surrounding us instead. The historic district is adorable and you can walk (quickly) to anything you might want from this hotel. We stayed in the holiday room and it was cute and cosy. We really enjoyed our stay, and appreciated the keurig coffee in the lobby at all hours. There seemed to be a few extra perks they don't advertise- coffee, bottled water, continental breakfast are all free... We will be back again and we'd highly recommend others try it. (One warning/tip, it does clarify this hotel is in the second story, so be prepared to carry luggage up flights of stairs.... No elevator)
