The food at Plaza Bonita is a very high standard by local standards and it is solidly good in comparison to restaurants far afield. My wife and I go there frequently and we always have the shrimp appetizer: shrimp sauteed with garlic and mushrooms served in a delicious tomato sauce with a bit of rice. It's a dish one does not usually find at Mexican restaurants, but it is always a tasty start to the meal. Another regular dish for us is the fajitas. They always fall a little short of 'ambrosial' that is possible with properly marinated meat and the perfect balance grilled onion, grilled pepper, fresh pico de gallo, salsa, guacamole, cheese; but they also are always tasty and satisfying. The several other dishes we have tried have always pleased us.
There are several other Mexican restaurants in town, each of which has food just about as good or occasionally a bit better; but where Plaza Bonita really shines in comparison is in its decorations, specifically, the chairs and tables. The wooden chairs throughout the restaurant are beautifully carved and painted with themes of Mexican flora and fauna. Some might find it worth a visit just to look at these.
Service is effective and courteous.
