“Experience history with modern comfort”
Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

If you're visiting Prescott for a weekend getaway in Arizona's territorial capital, the Hassayampa Inn is a great hotel to use as your base for exploring the area. This 1920s hotel has been beautifully preserved and restored over the years and sets the perfect tone for stepping back in time as you explore the nearby town square, Whiskey Row, local restaurants and breweries, antique shops and more - all of which can be found within walking distance of the hotel. The rooms at the Inn are on the small side but they are modern and very comfortable - and you should be out exploring, so who really needs an extra large room anyway? There is also a nice restaurant and bar in the hotel. The best features of this Prescott gem are its location, excellent customer service, well appointed rooms and historical significance.

For those travellers who appreciate a historical atmosphere in their lodgings this hotel was a delight. Built in a bygone era when space was available for a stunning entrance lobby plus grand piano, it felt like one was waiting for the Deadwood stage to draw up outside. I must admit that whilst gazing around the reception area I was heard to mutter, “So when does Calamity Jane arrive?” The very eager young receptionist was checking the booking references for me, before I could also enquire about Buffalo Bill.
Guests are not allowed to use the lift unaccompanied, but there was always a member of staff to help out. A few steep steps had to be scaled from the lobby area to the lift doors, so it proved a challenge for less nimble guests.
As we had booked a suite, we had loads of floor space in our rooms, and if one made allowances for the ugly addition of present day essentials – as in two TVs and a fridge – the feeling of bygone elegance prevailed. There were a few squeezy-shuffle corners where one could see how hard the planners had worked on changing the rooms for present day travel requirements. Shower room accessories were bang up to date and there was plenty of wardrobe space.
The restaurant off the lobby was easily accessible from the main street. Lovely setting for a special meal.
I loved it and found myself dreaming of how I would look in buckskin breeches (with fringes – of course). When we pass this way again my husband will be in trouble if we don’t stay here.

My husband and I live in Carefee, AZ and decided to get out of town for the night. We ended up in Prescott, AZ at the historical hotel, Hassayampa Inn. What a wonderful surprise , it was so enjoyable. Once we arrived we could walk all around town and the Inn is right close to everything. The staff was so friendly, the rooms very, very clean, nice linens, great breakfast. We will be back....

We stayed here for 3 nights while vacationing in the Prescott area and they were the best nights sleep in a long time. Our beds had pillow toppers on the mattress which was like sleeping on a cloud. We were in a room on the fourth floor with two queen beds. The size of the room was perfect! We were able to see in one of the king rooms which was very small. The elevator was not an issue at all-the staff was right there to operate it for us. This is an historic hotel so it has it's issues but overall they do a great job. We only ate in the restaurant once for breakfast which was just fine..decent service and good food. It was a great location so we were able to walk all over the older area of Prescott including Whiskey Row. A must see is the Palace Saloon-eat during happy hour for half price appetizers.

We decided to take a last minute trip to Prescott and had always wanted to stay at the Hassayampa Inn, having read about it in travel guides and Arizona Highways magazine. It falls into the category of famous, historic places in Arizona, along side the Gadsen Hotel in Douglas, The Copper Queen in Bisbee and La Posada in Winslow, as grand hotels in their day. Well, the Hassayampa has been restored to the luxury of a begone era. The lobby is breathtaking (fireplace, beautiful painted ceilings, and attractive furnishing) and the rooms are classic, but updated with all the amenities you could want. We called ahead and the super friendly hotel staff suggested we take what she called "the bridal suite", room 326. It is extra large, with a soft king size bed, large bathroom with wood floors and a sitting area which faces historic Gurley Street. The room was comfortable, clean (except for a few stained towels that we exchanged at the front desk for new ones) and spacious. More room than we needed, but we decided to indulge in the grand surroundings. The hotel staff was exceptional and worked hard to insure that our every need was met. The hotel allows pets and we enjoyed meeting the very well trained dogs also visiting the hotel. This hotel has the best location, right downtown, so we parked at the hotel and then walked from there to everything we wanted to see:galleries, shopping, antiques, cafes, Courthouse Square, Sharlot Hall Museum, Whiskey Row - really, the location cannot be beat. The only minor down side is that the room door isn't snug to the frame and so a lot of light gets in and with all the windows, TV and clocks in the room, we had a hard time getting the room dark enough. But, once our heads hit the pillows, we were out until 9:00 am the next morning! We cannot wait to return! Two things to note, if you get in late in the evening and want to eat dinner at the Peacock Room, that is a fine idea, but order something light - the French Onion soup is very good and one of the house salads. If you go ahead and order the big fancy dinners, you will end up with too much food and pay too much. Wait until morning and enjoy your breakfast here instead, it's a much better deal. Also, if you have ANY complaints, let the hotel staff know - they can't fix what they don't know is broken, so if you have a problem, just let them know and give the opportunity to take care of it. We didn't experience any problems, but if we had, I am certain the staff would have made things right, they are very accommodating. Finally, please note that there are a lot of interior steps, so if you don't like stairs and using the staff operated antique elevator, then this isn't a good choice for you. But if you like charming, historic and excellence, you can't go wrong with a trip to the Hassayampa Inn.

The hotel decor and atmosphere are historic and well maintained. The location can't be beat, near Whiskey Row, galleries and tourist amenities. But, the overall experience was less than advertised. The food at the hotel restaurant was over priced and average - I had the Chorizo Stuffed Pork Chops and my husband had the Prime Rib and while well prepared, just not special. Our server had no personality and never stayed long enough to find out if we were happy with our food. Thankfully the busser was there to refill our water glasses and bring us more bread. The bread was really good! Other disappointments included no on site parking, dirty towels in the bathroom, different items on the menu that did not match the room menu (really wanted the Halibut) and poor WiFi and no HBO. Nice, but just not quite what we were expecting.

Thank you for noting your experience regarding your stay at the Hassayampa Inn. I was sorry to discover that you were disappointed in some aspects of your stay. Your critical feedback helps us improve our service, so thank you for taking the time to post a review.

Our property has a designated parking area that is offered complimentary to each guest. I apologize if that information was not adequately explained during check-in. The Peacock Room often receives compliments about both the food and the service, so I was surprised by your disappointment. I hope that we will have the opportunity to serve you again in the future. Feel free to call me if you’d like to further discuss your experience.

If you are looking for historic and charm - this is it. Our friends recommended the Hassayampa Inn saying it was the best in downtown Prescott. They were right. A great choice for a weekend get-a-way. Gorgeous lobby and the fire was a warm welcome on a chilly evening when we checked in. Everything is within walking distance - Whiskey Row - and fabulous restaurants, western shops and quaint cafes. Prescott is very dog friendly and this hotel welcomes small pets. We will absolutely stay here again!

Room Tip: Because we booked last minute, we stayed on the first floor near the lobby and couldn't believe...
