dd gamble is not just a lodge, it is a place with a great family connection. You don't feel as a guest but as a family member. The rooms are spacious, furnished in typical and very clean. The husband does the cooking and the food tastes delicious. Just for the homemade bread I'd like to become a Cowboy. On the DD Gamble Lodge you have everything your heart desires: great location, wonderful hosts, animals to love and fabulous sunsets! I'm looking forward to come back!

Alicia and Tom are the perfect hostess/host, and my wife and I spent many days enjoying their friendliness and comfort of their lodge, not to forget the many interesting conversations during and after dinner. The food was to our liking as was the wine.

We were greeted by our host and hostess, helped to set up camp and pen our animals before being invited to tour the facilities and join them for a wonderful home cooked meal. They were helpful in organizing rides and lending us trailers so that we could travel to trails away from the main house. We would love to return at a future time.

Great location, great food, great star-gazing, great hosts and the world's most adorable horses. Alicia and Tom are warm and accommodating and have opened up their corner of a desert wonderland. They were great in listening to what we needed and making it work for us. We did not ride horses while there because it was very cold and we had our 5 year old with us. Next time we will for sure. Our daughter has not stopped talking about her best horse friends, Kachina and Short-Stuff. We will definitely be going back. Go there for enjoying the miniature horses, riding, hiking, exploring SE Arizona and great home cooked food.

While looking for pet friendly lodging for our Lab Lizzie and someplace close to Portal for birding access to Cave Creek Canyon, I happened onto the DD Gamble Guest Lodge. It had not been rated so we were taking a chance, but we are so glad we did. Where do I start to sing praise for owners Tom and Alicia Davidson? We had the 4 bedroom 2 bath lodge to ourselves for 3 nights. We also chose to have meals prepared for us. We were greeted with a generous glass of wine followed by a lovely and skillfully prepared dinner by Tom that satisfied my vegetarian needs and pleased my carnivore husband as well. We certainly did not go hungry. The living room with it's wood burning stove is large but cozy. There is wifi available, a well stocked library and a room to watch movies too. Then there is the surroundings. OK, it is in the middle of no where, you need to know that, but if you are a horse person, birder, naturalist or just want to experience the West the way it used to be, you will remember DD Gamble for a long time. Tom let us use his ATV to drive up Horse Shoe Canyon behind the lodge. One would never know it was there from the road but it is breath taking. We can't wait to return in the spring to see it in full bloom and we were the only people there. Playing with the mini horses and the mule was fun as well. The Davidson's are some of the kindest and most generous people we've met. When we left, after many evening's talking well after the dinner dishes were cleared, we knew we had met folks we would want to visit for many years to come. So treat yourself and call Tom and Alicia because they will create a unique experience tailor made to your interests.

Room Tip: The first bathroom from the dining area is really large and the back double bedroom is brighter and...
