“Great for families!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2013

We bought this hotel with our airfare through Allegiant for our first visit to Phoenix. The hotel rooms were nice although our air kept breaking and in July in Phoenix it was toasty! We found out very quickly this was more of a family hotel which we should have figured out from the pictures of the lazy river, but we just thought it would be awesome. They do at least serve drinks at the pools which is nice, but if I remember correctly the frozen drinks were like $20 or something insane. Not somewhere you should stay if you're wanting to be close to downtown, but there was at least civilization around if you wanted to eat other places or needed a grocery store or gas station.

Came here for a family break from the cold colorado mountains. Stayed 6 days and enjoyed it so much, we checked out and turned around and came back for 3 more days. The property is older but seems to be constantly updated and maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. Gift shop had an amazing bakery and coffee bar with the best banana bread. Front desk, concierge, any staff you happened to cross in your travels were outgoing and nice. Housekeeping did a great job, our room was clean and kept clean for our stay. Pools and hot tubs are open whenever so that was nice for an after dinner swim and hot tub. Water park was fun. Our 6 yr old loved the waterfall, and lazy river. We played mini golf, it was a good set up. We also rented a tennis ball machine and hit some balls, that was a blast, but we were sore for days afterwards. Many great small family owned restaurants in the area. All in all, a perfect family getaway in a nice warm place.

My wife and I stayed here after spending a week with friends at their vacation home in Rimrock, AZ as a sort of break from the previous week to have some or our own time in together. We booked this hotel based upon the fantastic pictures of the resort pools, the lazy river, and the Hole in the Wall BBQ restaurant on the property. First off, the Hole in the Wall wasn't even open. In fact, the entire place was a ghost town. Perhaps because it was the week before Thanksgiving and most folks are just getting ready to go away for the holidays, but it was D-E-A-D.

I believe you have to pay extra to use the massive resort pool with the waterfall, slides, miniature golf, etc. The first day we were at the pool, there were a couple handfuls of people. The second day we went to that pool, there was about 5 people, including us. The slide wasn't in operation on either day. I noticed a lot of seat cushions that were dirty throughout the pool area. A couple people at the entrace to the resort pool area were none too friendly. They ask you how many towels you need when you enter the pool area and when we were slow to respond, they asked again in a louder tone. I don't appreciate that kind of thing when I'm paying money for something. Not to mention that tere was practically nobody there but they acted like they had never seen me before each time I came back inside. Also, we felt like there was way too much security at this resort, particularly in the pool area. The hotel is in a rather nice neighborhood, what's up with a security guy on the property walking around with a badge? Really? Guess what....people PAY to visit resorts like this because they want to relax and have a good time, not feel like someone is watching over them. I found that extremely distubring. We don't like to be eyeballed.

The property itself is quite beautiful. We loved the landscaping. There were two other, smaller pools closer to the main buildings of the property. Both had swim-up bars. Neither were open. The pool nearest our room was the most happening area. Every night there were couples, singles, and families sitting in the hot tub. Other than that, the place was like a library sans a few business travelers.

We went to dinner one night at Rico's, which was ok. Our server was nice but super slow. We went on bourbon night and had the bourbon n burger special. It was awesome.

We've stayed all over the country and at many Waldorf Properties and outside of one in Boca Raton I have never seen uniformed security officers. Kind of ridiculous. As if the hotel was bordering a bad part of town or something. While the property is huge and the architecture of the older buildings is quite nice and the landscaping is great, we would not stay at this place again. There are much better places to stay......take my word for it.

Hello ardmoreflyer,
Thank you for taking the time to review our resort on TripAdvisor. I'm happy to know you found our property beautiful and enjoyed your meal in Rico's American Grill. It is disappointing, however, to learn your overall experience did not meet your expectations, and for this I am truly sorry. The service you received has been addressed with the department manager. It is important that the team realize how their interaction impacts a guest's experience. Please understand our security team's presense is not meant to disrupt our guest's experience but to ensure their safety and security, even during the slower periods. Although there is a nominal fee for some amenities at our resort, the use of all 7 swimming pools, including the River Ranch, are complimentary for our guests. I hope you will reconsider visiting us again in the future.
Regards,
Teri Agosta

We stayed for 3 nights and the hotel was great. The service was fantastic and our room had a great location. The room also was spacious and very clean. Everyone from our check in to the concierge David were very helpful. The area the hotel is in the moutain of Squaw Peak and is beautiful. Lots of pools and nice areas to sit outside. I liked the newer patio furniture around the pool areas. Grounds were very clean and landscaped. The bed was super comfortable.

Although there hotel takes up a lot of area it is not hard to get from one place to another. Was not able to use the leisure amenities, but i heard good things (for what that's worth). Being a Hilton Honors Gold member I got upgraded virtually every week, plus with that status you get 3 things from the hotel shop which basically gave breakfast for the day+. Staff was always helpful (especially navigating the spacious campus) nice, and by my 3rd week they remembered me and my room preferences.

Highly recommend for any business travelers

I was there for a few days at the beginning of December and was upgraded to one of the Ambassador Suites (it was honestly the largest room I've ever been in). It had a full living room with two couches, a large dining (meeting) table and 1.5 bathrooms. I was only surprised with the lack of a microwave. The resort area was superb and only wish I had my family there to enjoy the amenities. There are multiple pools on site and a separate water park (i did not go). The spa/workout center is very nice and look forward to a return visit.

Just returned from a January... 5 day stay in one of the two story two bedroom casitas...it was so wonderful. We had two queen beds in one room and one queen bed in the other and the space was enormous for four... two college siblings...and their parents... us. We walked the resort each early morning...enjoyed the putting golf course...and the warm waters of the smaller pool and jacuzzi right out our front door. We were the only ones that every used it while we were there. The towels are set out on the patio lounge chaises set at the edge of the pool each, sunny morning. Loved the fitness room too. We took advantage of the free golf carts and rent a set of clubs to go to the driving range, chipping area and putting green at Tapiatto Cliffs resort too. I would suggest a casita and one near the small pool....(two small pools on the property mixed in with the casitas).

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side of the casitas surrounding the small pool!
