“Can be better”

Have to agree with several of the other reviews. Several relatives checked in here sight unseen for a family event. Location was good for getting to and from the places we needed to be. The staff did do a nice job with catering a dinner for us in the common area. Which is the nicest part of the property.

Roof top pool was drained, there was random painting being done thru out, our AC quit working, adult store across the street, no water for 24 hours when a driver hit the water main. Manager seemed to care less - the lady at the desk had been on the job for days and had this to deal with. AC was never fixed, no water for quests, cafe/bar shut down. As we were leaving the next and moving in with family, we toughed it out. That will not happen again, we should have all left en masse when the water stopped. At check-out, we were credited for one night stay. But, it seem to be done grudgingly.

For the price, it was OK for a night's stay. It's near Downtown which is a plus, but for a few dollars more, you could get a better place. No fridge in the room, and if you do stay, ask for a room that is far away from the elevator. Our room was the 3rd from the elevator shaft, and we would hear the mechanics, and sounds or the elevator which became really annoying. The free breakfast is OK, but if I were to stay again, I wouldn't eat it, as it was real salty. Like I stated, the place is dated, and needs some upgrading. Bed was really uncomfortable. There is "no pool on the roof". There is supposed to be a "deck" up there, but we walked up the stairs, and the door to the rooftop was locked, so don't count on a view or pool.

Room Tip: The Phoenix Public Market is just down the street on Central. Great place to pick up some local bre...

The best part of our visit was the "kilt lifter" draft beer in the restaurant. Drink that and you will passively accept the "meh" parts.

We arrived at night. Dark street, nestled amongst several tall, non-descript office buildings and parking lots. Incredibly, there was ZERO signage to indicate what it was. The busy adult bookstore across the street had more lighting and better signage. It's adequately clean (rug in our room was gross - wear socks!) and super bare-bones - no hotel information binders, tourist books, etc. in the room to help you orient to the area. The first guest we encountered on our floor had tattooed words for eyebrows along with a plethora of other facial ink, so we were a bit nervous, but settled in for the night.

If excessively loud, clunky, droning heating/ac machines affect your sleep, bring ear plugs and sleeping pills. Our machine cycled on and off every 30 minutes or so - sounded like my neighbor starting up their '70s beater right next to the bed.

Next morning had a warm breakfast - it was passable. The staff in the restaurant were very pleasant and warm. The outside area and pool were very nice - looked like it would be lots of fun in the summer (especially with a kilt lifter!). Of course the hotel turned off the water for a good part of the day so I had the pleasure of taking an ice cold shower when it came back on. The hotel is near the light rail and closer to the museums than we expected - so that was good.

So, I'm quietly resting in my room one day and there's a knock on the door. It's a casually dressed guy (no name tag or hotel logos on his polo shirt, didn't offer his name) with a crumpled piece of paper in his hand that he's glancing at, He was visibly shaken that I answered. He stammered out that he worked for the hotel, didn't expect me to be in the room and was going to enter to examine the TV as he was in the process of replacing them. He nervously asked me to tell him the tv brand instead - I totally threw him off from whatever he had been planning - looking back now, his behavior was weird. Husband later told the front desk, and, of course, they didn't have anyone checking TVs that day, plus they already knew the rooms and the TVs that were being replaced. Hmmm.

Later, the strong smell of spray paint wafted in the hall and I heard the tell-tale sound of shaking spray paint cans (I know - teen son). Uh oh, is there a guerrilla graffiti artist tagging event going down in the next room? Cool, but... I told the front desk attendant and she perkily replied that they were redecorating. My thought - with spray paint and without proper ventilation?! I went back to my floor and saw drop cloths outside a majority of the rooms on our wing. Why "redecorate" an occupied floor? Spray paint is a horrible, toxic smell, so I left.

Throughout our stay I passed several, who I assume were managers, with badges, suits, high heels, coming out of the front desk area. Not one smiled, said "hello" or asked about our stay in an effort to provide excellent customer service. It left me with the feeling of "meh."

So.....trust me, a kilt lifter will make the stay better.

I highly recommend the Phoenix Place Hotel & Suites. I have stayed here before and continue to come back. The rooms have all the amenities you could ask for, including a frig, microwave, desk, chair and ottoman, and a comfy bed. They serve a free breakfast which is always great. I have had a salad and the nachos from room service and loved both of them. The bartenders have great personalities and are enjoyable to hang out with while having a drink. The hotel is very clean. It's in a great location, right near the light rail.

I have stage IV cancer and was travelling with my two small children. Due to no fault of the hotel staff the water was turned off for over 18 hours. This caused a huge issue for my health situation. When I asked the General Manager for my money back, he refused and said it wasn't his fault. He was rude and uncaring. His employees were all nearly in tears. I felt sorry for his staff and would never recommend staying in a place where the owner cares so little for the employees and guests.

Room Tip: There are no good rooms

We stayed Nov. 9th thru 11th 2013, for the Nascar Race. The customer service was horrible. Upon check in we weren't told about the free breakfast...we had to ask. Our first room, the air conditioning unit was dismantled and the bed looked like someone had messed around on. Our second room was okay. On Sunday, the water in the whole hotel was turned off due to an car accident (Supposely). Image our suprise when returned from the race to shower before dinner. The front desk failed to tell us the water was turned off, even though, we talked with the front desk prior to going to our room. We found out the water was turned off when we tried to shower. We called to ask about the water and were told it wouldn't be back on till Monday late afternoon. Then, upon checking out we were charged for four rooms not two...And the hotel failed to correct all the mistakes and lack of water by providing a refund for the non working water day. Will never stay here again or recommend it!

Room Tip: Stay at the Holiday Inn next door.

I stayed here during the Summer in June 2013 on a Sunday. It was just for one night. This hotel back in the day was a Raddisson if I'm not mistaken. I can see why this place either lost its status, or just became an independent property. It has a odd location, directly behind a Holiday Inn. The location of this place isn't idea either as there's a porn store located just adjacent from the hotel. Lots of shady people crawl around this area during the night hours. I had checked in late, and the receptionist had a hard time finding my reservation. After about 15 minutes, she finally found my reservation.

I was placed on the 5th floor. The property looks worn out. I had asked if their restaurant/lounge was still open, and the gal said it wasn't. The rooms are very small. The furniture and beds take up the majority of the space in the room. The room also was at an angle. I thought it was a bit odd. All the furniture was placed slanted. The space between the bed and the TV stand was almost non-existent as I bumped my knee a few times. I had some cold items that needed to be store. I open the door to where I thought there would be a fridge, but there was nothing. I had asked the front desk about it, and she said only select units had them, and they were at a higher rate if I wanted to be moved.

The room I have had those sleep number beds. Nice idea, but it made so much sound when you were trying to adjust the the bed settings. One bed didn't work at all, and the other did. After going out to eat some fast food, I heard some people talking from the area where the lounge was. Low and behold there was people there! I sat at the bar, and asked if they were open. The bartender said "You just missed the kitchen, but we're still open for drinks." I told the guy the front desk informed me that the place was closed, and he seemed dismayed at the fact they would say such a thing. There was an elderly couple sitting there eating dinner, and they said the food was good. The bartender even told me they were dying for customers.

After a few drinks, went back up to the room. Sleep wasn't good. The bathroom wasn't all that clean. Room was a bit dusty. On check out I had mentioned it to the front desk, and they said "We'll have someone look in to it, and contact you." Suffice to say no one did. That probably was the last time I would stay there. This property also shares a parking garage with the Holiday Inn. If the place had some renovations, it would be nice. It does have potential.
