I stay at Motel 6 not infrequently - when all I'm looking for is some place cheap and clean. I chose this motel because of its location and price - cheaper than other Motel 6's in this part of the Phoenix area.
My check-in was handled by a very personable, efficient young man who, quite honestly, was probably the best staff person I've ever run into at a Motel 6 anywhere. He was cordial, helpful, enthusiastic (but not obnoxious), and really seemed to enjoy his job. He was also the first one to ever advise me that, being an AARP member, in addition to the AARP discount (10%, which I knew about), I'd also receive free wi-fi and have a 2pm checkout. Interesting. I never knew that, even after many stays at Motel 6. Bottom line -> I would hire him in an instant to work the front desk at any hotel - he was that good.
The rooms at this motel are the standard Motel 6 stock-issue - not upgraded, as rooms at some other properties have been. My room - a single bedded room - lacked the small side table that is standard in most single Motel 6 rooms, creating a bit of unused space that made the room feel a bit weird. Everything else was standard Motel 6. The bathroom had a combo shower-tub unit, and the shower delivered a good stream of hot water.
The only issue is that the blanket on the bed was in pretty bad shape, with cigarette burns, stains, and a lot of wear and tear. I don't usually run into such things when I stay at Motel 6 - perhaps I'm just one of the lucky ones - but this time, it was real cruddy. That blanket needed to be thrown out and replaced, but other than that, the room was very clean, as were the linens on the bed, and the bed delivered a comfortable night's rest.
The neighborhood isn't bad, but as a low-cost motel, it does seem to attract a wide spectrum of guests. I didn't feel unsafe there, but I did stay quite aware of my surroundings when arriving back at the room late at night.
Plain, simple, comfortable, and cheap. Other than the soiled, burned blanket, if all you're looking for is basic accommodations, this fills the bill.
